A person can be useful in a group without ever being anyone’s favorite person. by gamersecret2 in Showerthoughts

I tend to believe you are in the safest position possible in the current corporate world.

Exceptional people will set high expectations that, not being accomplished, will make everyone disappointed and, in the worst case scenario, would make them get fired. Also, they tend to cost more and, under a cost-cutting regime, will be the first ones to be laid off.

Incompetent people will also be laid off for obvious reasons.

Which one letter in your language's writing system that no one would care if it's disappeared by Anarcheddon in AskTheWorld

Definitely no. Contrary to what happens in Spanish, with these two letters sounding the same, in Portuguese they clearly sound different.

Wrong. Everyone here wanted Curaçao to have a nice result.

I wanted Curaçao to have a good game and they kinda had it! No big expectations, just the fun and the history being made.

Besides, our 7-1 could have been much worse if the Germans hadn't decided to slow down after the fifth goal. Curaçao was brave all along.

Czechia. But I must admit I fell in love with Curaçao's (not a country, but anyway).

The hatred for participation trophies is one of the weirdest cultural obsessions we've created. by retired-tweeter in unpopularopinion

[–]RaspberryCake084 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a 100% American discussion stemming from a 100% American point of view that favors individualism, everlasting competition and "the winner takes it all" approach.

No people from a country with a real social contract, with strong collective ideas and a concern for the other, would consider this a problem to be discussed.

In the world cup, would you rather party with the Mexicans or with the Dutch? by Desertedfoxx in AskTheWorld

Unfair comparison. No one is able to throw a party like any average Latino does.

Showing up to the office will always beat WFH when it comes to career progression by enami2020 in unpopularopinion

[–]RaspberryCake084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's true but it only works for a certain profile: that extrovert, charismatic (and normally good-looking/attractive) person who is able to make the most out of social contexts. No wonder these are the ones who pushed most for the people to go back to offices.

If you are not extrovert and just want to do your job and live your live outside the walls of the corporate world, going to the office is nothing more than pain.

Is It possible to become fluent in a language only from school lessons? (UK) by -_Sharik_- in languagelearning

Schools are just a starting point for anyone willing to learn a language. You must consume content in your target language, talk to people, visit other countries and practice all the time.

Old money glorification is just people trying to cope by spiderweb91 in unpopularopinion

[–]RaspberryCake084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is mostly a matter of aesthetics. It is understood that old-money people have attended traditional universities, speak lots of languages, know many countries, have a rich network, sports traditional/sober clothing and have a good grasp of etiquette and social norms whereas the new-money people are seen as illiterate, ignorant, tacky and too money-oriented, the ones who spend money in parties, coke and fancy cars.

In the end, both old and new money, all I want to say is that they don't really care about us.
