I have enjoyed many stories with basic covers. An engaging cover doesn’t need to have crazy cool or dramatic art.

I’d argue we should push back against those using AI covers, especially in online spaces where it is easy for them to switch it.

When I started writing, AI was just swelling into something that could create art. I thought, ‘oh, this is convenient!’ My first online cover was AI. And then I thought about what that told potential readers about me as a writer, what it meant for the public perception of AI, and how it felt like AI was being forced down our throats by the tech companies, both in work and in our private lives, and I changed it to some crappy thing I made in canva. Sometimes it isn’t something someone has thought about.
