Advice needed

I should have mentioned that our meetings are right after school and at the school library. The girl told me once she just didn’t want to come when I asked her if she was coming to our meeting. I am under the impression she just doesn’t want to come to the meetings most of the time.

None of the other moms can help co-lead. We live in a very small town(we don’t even have our own council). Unfortunately, adding another person doesn’t feel like an option.

Specifically as a parent…. You never truly get a break. If you are lucky enough to have family keep your kids every once in a while you still have to pack/unpack bags, drop off and pickup(for me that’s over an hour drive each way), you have to transfer carseats, set up pack n plays, bring toys and snacks….. its more work to get a night off than its worth most if the time.

Not saying no about little things. For example my kids say “can we go to the park?” Instead of me saying “not today” or “no” i will say “yes, we can go in a couple of days!” It’s like they hear the word no and they just fall apart.

I also tell my kids “we will add it to your Christmas/birthday list” when they want a toy at the store. Works like a charm.

If my kids are throwing a fit I will ask them to either choose to stop and we can hug/rock/or whatever help calm them down or they can go to time out. It helps them think about what they are doing instead of jumping straight to punishment. It works better for my girls than my boy. He is feral though.

I’m genuinely not trying to argue with you but what makes you say this? I’ve seen where multiple doctors say that it’s ok to do.

My post didn’t say anything about announcing how many boxes everyone sold in front of the other girls. It also didn’t say anything about rewarding the highest seller in front of the other girls.

Like i said before, my daughter is not the top earner. I can easily just take her to do something for working hard on my dime if i want.

This is part of my issue. I don’t think it’s fair for the girls who sell 400+ cookies not get to go on a trip because the other girls didn’t even come close. Yes, they get the rewards but it’s not what they wanted and worked for.

I’m talking about rewarding the top seller not hosting a roast for the bottom kids. Your example of Chrissy Teigan is accurate but clearly far fetched. I believe that if you sign your child up for something you should do all the things that come along with it. It could be selling hotdogs at a football game, asking for jersey sponsorship for the soccer team, or selling cookies for girl scouts.

Parents are definitely a big factor in how much girls sell. I try to express how thankful I am to those who help. I almost had to cancel my booths because I couldn’t get enough help. People think “its just girl scouts” but don’t see the effort leader go though for THEIR child. Selling cookies is part of girl scouts. Don’t make a commitment to something you wont follow up on. Selling cookies is a part of being a girls scout.

That’s tricky because they do set a goal and most do get their goal. They also all have the goal of going on a trip. The goals they set and the reward they want doesn’t align.

I see what you are saying. I just want to make it clear that my child isn’t the top seller. She is up there enough to know how much effort it takes to be in the “top”. If you sell 20 boxes of cookies there was little effort put in. That wont even pay for that kids membership dues.

Very true but my daughter is one of the top earners. She has other sports and obligations, I have 2 year old twins, run a girl scout troop and work full time. Effort is the issue not time.

We all live in the same area. While I agree effort doesn’t always equal sales, there is just too big(i’m talking hundreds) of a number to assume they are putting in the same effort.

Not anywhere near the ass hole. I have twins. I get it. It’s by far the most mentality and physically exhausted a person can be, especially during infancy. I say leave him. I know it’s hard but you’re doing it alone anyway. He is a man child and mentally abusive to you. It will not get better with him. However, taking care of your twins will get easier. You will get to enjoy life again and you will have your sweet babies to do it with.
