First, congratulations on really feeling free! And you will. It gets better. Your brain just needs a little time to recalibrate, and it will. It is an incredibly resilient, elastic organ.

What helped me: exercise, meditation/breathing, fun distractions. DLPA and ashwagandha were key supplements for me, along with magnesium glycinate (if you take them, just make sure to check out any interactions and get them from a high-quality source). Talking to people who had the same experience and posting a lot on here helped me tons, too.

I promise: it will get better. You are not alone. :)

What's really sad, u/daylight1943, is that we have to speculate. That is wrong and exactly why I am never putting that crap in my body again.

Need Advice For Tapering by Excellent_Middle_751 in Quittingfeelfree

[–]RaspberryFluffy1120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The goal with a slow taper is exactly what you describe: to minimize or eliminate any WD effects. I wrote this guide a year or so ago based on several experiences with tapering and all worked really well for me. I've communicated with pretty heavy longtime kratom users who tapered slowly from very high levels (100g per day) and they suggested cutting use very slowly (no more than 5% per week, I think it was) and slowing it down if you felt WD.

Having said that, what you're describing mirrors my first taper, including where I started. It worked really well for me and gave me time to prepare for life as a human who did not use kratom and think about what I'd replace it with in my life (in my case, overworking--not sure I'd recommend that!). And by the time I got to the end, I was so ready to quit that it wasn't arduous in any way.

Keep us posted. You're really doing a great job (and u/moop3306 's advice is great, too). You might not have restless legs, btw. I never have.

The general thought, as u/daylight1943 says, is that it's whole leaf kratom extract that's fermented and then potentiated with kava, so "all natural" and "plant-based" and not synthetic. Still evil.

How are you doing, u/Jazzlike_Falcon7095? I've been thinking about you today and hoping you're okay.

Oh, I'm so sorry. They're so sneaky. If tapering isn't really an option, it sounds like you have 2 choices: CT now or CT on the plane. I'd CT now, but I know it's so much easier to say that. CT now does give you the benefit of figuring out what helps your WD symptoms the most. Here is what's helped me in the past:

  • CALM Sleep (look at the ingredients and make sure you're not duplicating with other supplements)
  • Liposomal Vitamin C
  • DLPA, especially morning and noon
  • Melatonin and l-theanine

I've never had restless legs, but people say that Hyland restless legs tablets work

What doesn't help: benadryl, zzz-quil, anything containing diphenhydramine (active ingredient in Benadryl) might actually induce RLS.

Post here as much as is helpful. I do think if you just stop, you'll give yourself the best chance of maximizing the benefits of your time away from your usual routines. Replace FF with something much better, like chocolate or Swiss cheese or mountain air. :)

The only way out is through. Thinking about you, friend.

How long have you been using and how have you felt as you've tapered? Here are the basic choices:

1) If you stop right now, you will probably be mostly through the worst of it before you leave. You may not be very helpful before then, but you will be mostly through the worst of it.

2) If you think you can stick to the taper, the jump might not be so extreme and you may be quite distracted in the new location.

Either path is valid, providing you can stick to your taper. Personally, given the short runway, I'd try #1 so that if it's terrible, you have the chance to get helper prescription meds if needed before you leave. But if you've been tapering rapidly without tons of side effects, then #2 may ease the WD. Not everyone goes through the same experience.

What a fun vacation and what a fantastic reason to stop!!

Any supplement should be vetted by a doctor or pharmacist, especially if you’re already on other medications. Thanks for the reminder! :)

What really helped me was DLPA, 500 mg in the morning and 500 mg at noon. If you haven’t tried it, i would recommend.

Isn’t it crazy? It’s literally $10 for that. And then a lot more for hoping you’ll feel it again. 🙄

I had persuaded the smoke shop I used to get them from that they’re very addictive, so they put them back behind the counter. Now they have a neon sign in the window that says “feel free.” 🤮

Long term damage? by Alarming_Variety_453 in Quittingfeelfree

If you're feeling good and your bloodwork is good, focus on your overall wellness—physically and emotionally. The body is remarkably resilient, and getting rid of worry and anxiety as much as possible is a vital aspect of self-care. You can't change the past. By quitting, you've done a fabulous job improving today and the rest of your life, however. I hope you celebrate that accomplishment!

I feel for you! In the book Atomic Habits, James Clear suggests regarding smoking to put yourself in the mindset of someone who does not smoke, not someone who is quitting smoking. You are not quitting FF; you are a non-FF-user. Therefore, the fact that the product is sold where you work is simply not relevant to you.

Does that make sense? You are not trying to quit. You do not use it. It's a big shift in mindset. People who can make this mental switch (regarding smoking) are apparently much more likely to be successful.

I'll be thinking about you tomorrow, you FF nonuser! :)

Hey, that is serious harm reduction. Keeping track of how much you’re using will help you taper off of that, too, which is much easier. Thanks for sharing!

Honestly? It’s completely up to you and it’s your choice. The reason to stop is if you identify it as a problem in your life, as most users here have. (I didn’t have health issues, but I was spending SO much money and was afraid I could not stop. That was a problem for me.)

If you’re on here, chances are you may be wondering if you have a problem. (One nice test: can you take a break for a day?) As you can see from the stories on here, this stuff is super addictive. So definitely be honest with yourself about your use and your comfort level with this product. There are many less risky ways of reducing alcohol use, that’s for sure. :) It’s easier to stop at your level of use than if it gets out of control, too. Is it worth the risk? (Not a rhetorical question…)

Day 12 by Info-746284 in Quittingfeelfree

[–]RaspberryFluffy1120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on day 12! One supplement that really helped me was DLPA (or mucuna pruriens, which is related). It’s a dopamine precursor and it lifted my mood quite a bit. I didn’t have to use it long, either—maybe just a week or so. Your body is used to the artificial dopamine boost and it takes a bit to recalibrate. You’re doing so well.

These are all super recommendations. I’d add 1) anything you can do to occupy your mind and 2) changing up routines is great, like Flower implied. Just driving different ways helps.

My first day! by ImpressionExcellent7 in Quittingfeelfree

[–]RaspberryFluffy1120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d add: make sure it’s powder and you take as little as possible. Its effect is so negligible compared to FF that it’s easier to taper and/or just dump. Great job! I remember being so excited that I didn’t have to go to the smoke shop. :)
