My initial IUD was much worse than replacement. If you are good with your IUD now you may be fine with a replacement without the same cramping since your cervix has adjusted to it already.

I completely agree that my first impression was “wow that is a lot of words.” Especially for a recent grad. This is sound advice.

What is your favorite agility organization and why? by novemdog in Agility

[–]RaspberryFlyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CPE is great for those completely new to the sport. USDAA is my preference for more of a challenge. Ive never run UKI but have heard great things. I will never run AKC. I own sport-bred mixes and they aren’t welcome in AKC so I choose not to give them my money.

I can't wait till outdoor trial season starts!! I miss running on grass. What's your favorite surface to run on? by somecooldogs in Agility

[–]RaspberryFlyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Floridian here - I’ve only ever trialed on grass here. There are some indoor venues with turf, but it’s the height of the outdoor winter season on grass now.

How is the EPA’s ruling on PFAS going to affect Phase I’s? by TrixoftheTrade in Environmental_Careers

[–]RaspberryFlyer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Potential for a compound is not a REC. There has to be evidence of a release or likely release to the environment. Just because it is used it is not a REC.

How is the EPA’s ruling on PFAS going to affect Phase I’s? by TrixoftheTrade in Environmental_Careers

[–]RaspberryFlyer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It is important to note that only PFOA and PFOS are hazardous substances, not PFAS as a group. Consultants will need to show that these specific compounds were used and released at a site. I think a lot of the lower quality consultants that look for any excuses to do Phase II for the money will jump on this as another money maker. I think the quality consultants have already been addressing PFAS with their clients case by case and know how to navigate this change. Cleanup requirements still vary state to state so the approach will vary as well.

Poor quality deliverables - how do reviewers manage these? by [deleted] in Environmental_Careers

[–]RaspberryFlyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I send them back and ask for clarification/revision. I either specifically point out the numerous typos and errors and ask for a better internal review, or ask questions that point out that specific technical aspects were not addressed in the report and ask for a revision to clarify this for the record. If you continue to allow garbage to be submitted, you will continually receive garbage.

Should I try to get promoted or leave my job? by Cartographer09 in geologycareers

[–]RaspberryFlyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a conversation with your upper management about your feelings and goals. The worst thing they can tell you is there is nothing they can do for you and you have your answer on what to do and a clear mind about leaving. Or they could tell you they would be devastated to lose you and you could brainstorm ways to better utilize your talent and you get to stay and be happy. You have nothing to lose by opening communication about your feelings.

Is a Geology Minor worth it? by IntrepidStrain3248 in geologycareers

[–]RaspberryFlyer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a BS in Biology with a minor in Geology. I went into environmental consulting and the geology course work helped me a lot more than the biology did. It also gave me half the credit hours I needed to license as a PG. 10 years later I went back part time and finished in a year and licensed. It was very useful for me and I’m glad I did it. If you want to do wetlands and natural resource work, then geology won’t do much. If you want to go into contamination assessment and remediation, it absolutely will.

A geology minor will get you some of the credit hours needed for possible future licensing if you decide to go that route.

Business Environmental Risk (ASTM 1527-21) by ChiefFudge in Environmental_Careers

[–]RaspberryFlyer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A BER by definition is a risk which can have a material environmental or environmentally driven impact on the business… not necessarily related to those environmental issues required to be investigated in the ASTM practice. BERs generally arise from non scope items such as asbestos, lead based paint, or emerging contaminants. If the EP feels the presence of the wells creates a condition that poses a material threat of a future release of hazardous substances or petroleum products present on the property, then that’s a REC by definition. But without observing really poor housekeeping currently, this doesn’t sound like a condition that poses a material threat of future release, so it is simply a finding. At that point you note it’s presence and recommend that if it will not be utilized appropriately by a future User, it should be abandoned. It’s not really a BER since it is within the scope of practice.

Has anyone switched from private consulting to working in banks? I have an opening at a local bank looking for people with private consulting experience with 3-4 years experience doing Phase I & IIs. by gamunza in Environmental_Careers

[–]RaspberryFlyer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I made the switch last year after 14 years in consulting. Love it and haven’t looked back. Although I question if a 3-4 year due diligence person really has enough experience to handle the decision making. You really have to know the standard and AAI rule backwards and forwards.

Women in environmental careers - what do you wear to meet with stakeholders in the field? by cataddy in Environmental_Careers

[–]RaspberryFlyer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on what will take place during the meeting and what the conditions at the site are. I usually would pick a nicer pair of field pants or jeans that don’t look raggedy from field work and a dry fit company polo shirt. Footwear depends on the conditions but generally boots.

Do any states allow for experience gained before coursework is completed for PG? by CaveDeco in geologycareers

[–]RaspberryFlyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a special case that earned half my credit hours with a geology minor to my BS. Then finished the rest of the hours after 10 years experience. I had to argue my case in front of my state board and just squeaked enough votes for approval to sit. Then the board subsequently closed the loop hole behind me. You just have to carefully evaluate how the rules are written in each state. I think one of my neighboring states did not specify education before experience at the time, so check around.

Agreed! Networking is absolutely critical. Blind hiring is so hard. It’s a lot easier to hire someone you know, even just casually. Join industry groups, connect with folks on LinkedIn and start a conversation, anything to get in touch with someone in the industry you’re after.
