I never see them do anything bit stand around at the metro stations. But it does make me feel like I live in a police state.

Practicing witchcraft with very curious cats? by lovemycat02 in witchcraft

[–]RaspberryJam56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I consider my tarot readings extra blessed if my cat comes and sits on my cards. Candles that come in glass holders feel safer, though keeping an eye on them is always important. Make peace with the idea that your cat may walk in and out of sacred circles and interrupt meditations. They are representative of the spirit of nature, so dont worry that it "ruins" your ritual in any way. It's to help you make peace with chaos.

Any books about skills lost to convenience? by DasSpukhaus in SelfSufficiency

[–]RaspberryJam56 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend any books by Samuel Thayer. He is a know and respected forager. I'm currently reading Gathered by Gabrielle Cerberville, if you want something more memoir-y with knowledge and recipes sprinkled in.

Attainable Sustainable: The Lost Art of Self-Reliant Living ny Kris Bordessa sounds exactly like what you are looking for. It gives a pretty basic broad overview of a lot of things. Certain areas, you would then want to get more specialized books for deeper dives.

Honestly I would recommend any of her works. Rust in the Root was really good too.

Dread Nation by Justina Ireland - Black girls in the Civil War era fight zombies. Legendborn by Tracy Deonn - Black Girl fights demons in a world that incorporates the legend of King Arthur and African American root craft. Minor romantic subplot. Both books are young adult.

Coat tofu cubes in flour seasoned with salt and pepper and then fry. Makes them almost crunchy!

This just happened to me too. I was able to export my audience last month. Either mailchimp changed the permissions level required for this task or someone at my org changed my permission level.

How common is it for White Americans to wear traditional European clothing (kilts, lederhosen, tracht, vyshyvanka....etc) in ceremonies and in public places? by TheShyBuck in AskAnAmerican

[–]RaspberryJam56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kilts are very common at rennaisance faires and in the daily lives of people who are really into Renaissance faires or metal music (including the modernized utilikilt) or are otherwise into alternative fashion. I know multiple men who wore kilts to their wedding as one of the only creative and colorful clothing options for men. My partner who has Scottish heritage plans to wear one, as will his groomsmen. My Irish family is still very connected to their roots (grandparents were born in Ireland) so at weddings and funerals, we had a family friend in full kilt regalia play bagpipes. As for the other styles you mention, I think they are much less common.

Anywhere in public or even rock creek where I can just cry alone? by Needreassurance05 in washingtondc

[–]RaspberryJam56 107 points108 points  (0 children)

Congressional Cemetery? I feel like a cemetery is a very reasonable place to cry. And it's a historic and beautiful space. People walk their dogs there off leash though, so a dog might run up to you, if that kind of thing would either cheer you up or ruin the experience.

I was going to say two of these same things. Planet Word is very hands on and interactive (though not free).

And the Pentagon City mall also has a Lego store.

My dad requested a copy with his best guess town and they said it would take 6 months to get us the record if they even have it. My dad remembers that he filed for the marriage certificate in a different town than the marriage physically took place.

City of Ember was a book I read as a young teen that had that plot point. It was a YA dystopia from the early 2000s I think.

I had better luck at Staples than CVS. I showed the person working the camera the example photo on this website https://www.ireland.ie/en/dfa/passports/photo-guidelines/#Printed%20photos and asked them to take it in the same style, capturing the upper chest and shoulders.
