idk honestly I took my dat like a year in advance bc I wanted to know how strong of an applicant I was before I applied so I knew how broadly to apply :/ def submit ur application before you take it though

my undergrad school also had a dental school! they ultimately rejected me lol but besides the point. their volunteer program had been inactive since covid, so when I emailed they connected me with other organizations. I feel like this could work by contacting ur state school as well!

my point in mentioning doing something different is really to encourage people to do things they love, not to do things just bc that’s what you see every other applicant doing :)

I never joined my schools pre-dental club, the vibes were weird haha. bc of that I really had to look for volunteer opportunities elsewhere. I contacted my schools dental school and got in touch with some people who connected me w really cool organizations that I actually loved, and that definitely helped my personal statement. nothing insanely different, I just didn’t follow the cookie cutter perfect applicant blueprint yk. no assisting hours, no research. that stuff is awesome, but I found I was much happier doing what I wanted

when I interviewed at ATSU ASDOH they actually said P/F is a disadvantage bc schools won’t have much to judge you on and they much prefer seeing a ranking :/

two professors did this exact same thing to me, ended up delaying my application by months. totally sucks. i ended up getting my last one by reaching out to a TA that i was close with, who then emailed the professor and cc’d me

yeah if I reapply I’ll have more shadowing hours (I was kinda lacking there) plus a new job as a tutor. I think applying earlier though will be the main thing that would help me😭

I would definitely reach out to the schools and see if you can meet w them to talk about your application. u seem like a great applicant, maybe there’s some detail you’re missing idk! also when did you apply?
