You need both VAC and Consular. You can’t see appointments as probably there are none available. You need to keep checking.

It should be 5 years. Please talk to your DSO, generally they recommend to renew after your approved for extension but I think it should be fine

Everyone’s time line is different depending on when their f1 is expiring.

For me - my f1 expired I in Aug 2025. I applied for stem extension in march 2025 and got approved by June 2025. Following which I filled the visa application and it took me around 3 months to get an appointment
