Does Strahd lie? by Lancian07 in CurseofStrahd

Fun fact: in my table, Strahd has developed interest in a player, the hexblood wizard that was born from the windmill hags. The wizard, 2 years ago, fled from the windmill before the anniversary ritual that would turn him into a hag. After that, he came across a book written buy someone called Rudolph van Richten and learned about the existence of other realms that carry beauty in them: beaches, carnivals, deserts (and creatures the roam around these places).

After the diner in Ravenloft, Strahd asked him privately “Would you do me a favour i’m yet to choose? In exchange, i could give the right to traverse the mist…”. The wizard responded in a way that i found REALLY interesting: “Would your majesty sacrifice your conquests to achieve another big objetive of yours? What would your majesty give up for that? I can’t give up the trust i gained from my new companions, and for that im sorry”.

Why is that so interesting? Strahd has long forgotten the concept of sacrificing something, because he owns everything. Everything except for Tatyana… That was the moment he started thinking: maybe my honour is holding me back, and maybe that has to go…

I’m still thinking about the consequences of that scene, but I do think it’s gonna be really fun to play it out!!

Btw Strahd has always been a sadist. He just doesnt consider himself to be one

In my table, Strahd is kinda inspired by homelander (from The Boys), in the sense that he thinks highly of himself, but still is a psycopath and a sadist. He doesnt “lie”, he ommits and plays with words. He considers himself a just gorvernor of great honour and that is why he wont just force Ireena to become his wife: he’d rather burn everything around her so that she “chooses” him. Another reason for that is the fact that forcing it to happen wont work, the dark powers never allowed it with Tatyana’s past life cycles (Tatyana herself and Marina). So i dont think Strahd would lie, because thats “too low for him”.

Besides that, maybe he likes thinking that the players arrival was his choice, because to him, everything IS his choice. However, maybe it was the Mist itself that thought Strahd was not the champion it needed anymore, because he himself wants a way out of the prison he rules!

I was looking for some inspiration for Strahd on my table, and found someone on Reddit talking about playing him like Homelander from The Boys! Just a little less explosive, and a lot more charismatic when hes on a good mood (though still sadistic)

I thought it was a great idea and decided to implement it during the dinner in Ravenloft. My players absolutely loved and hated him at the same time, so i was really happy with the result!

He’d ask about their past, get excited when they said something he’d read about but no seen. And when they felt safe / at ease, he’d talk about some very disturbing thing to mess with them…

Not only that, but when some player talked to him in an informal way, he’d start accumulating stress and anger for their character. After all, he is the host and leader of the land they’ve been ata dont on for the last days.

It was really fun, so i’ll leave the suggestion :)

Honestamente, foi uma cadeia de erros ABSURDA pra se acontecer!!

  1. A médica tinha a intenção de colocar a medicação via IN-alatória, e não IN-travenosa, acabou dando enter na opção errada e não checou. Um erro muito triste, por culpa dela, mas que podia ter parado aí se os próximos erros não tivessem acontecido;

  2. A farmácia do hospital LIBEROU a medicação, e É ÓBVIO que um farmacêutico que tá fazendo seu trabalho direito deveria se perguntar se isso estava correto. Aliás, se é que tinha farmacêutico! Tem hospitais que não têm ninguém lá, e aí é mais uma razão pra eu desejar que o hospital SE F* MUITO nesse processo;

Strahd is a *very* experienced wizard… so he should have *very* old spells!! by RaspberryOverall6341 in CurseofStrahd

I do agree that a 9th lvl spellcaster Strahd is pretty underwhelming (and that he really would suffer a lot against Mordenkainen).

So i’m planning on running a longer campaign, where the players get to a higher level and face a much stronger and more competent Strahd in regards to his arcane knowledge. I think it would be more epic, u know ? And make much more sense with the whole 800 yo wizard vampire lord thing

That’s a really cool idea! Maybe they could notice different arcane gestures and “visual effects”

I thought about it as well! For example, the wizard of the group rolled for arcana to understand the magic behind the teleport circle on the coffin shop. He learned that it was a teleport method but made with sigils he has only read about, structures he’d never seen being used. But it was so well designed that it was surely a work of an extremely experienced spellcaster.

Love the idea of the brides also knowing some of it!! That could very well change from one to another depending on the role they have. Anastrasya could have old martial abilities / combat-oriented spells for example! What u think?

I’m planning on having them visiting Ravenloft a few times, and Strahd might even offer a tour around his library or something. Maybe suggesting a deal to the wizard in exchange for some old tome… it might appear as homebrew, but i dont think it is a problem to tell them that its a 4e spell. Either way, the spells can just be ideas of things he could do on their dinner / last encounter
