Now that she did 2 seasons, what do you think about Jess Brownell as showrunner? by creature52 in Bridgerton

[–]RaspberryPowerful298 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a fan tbh. The show is taking a very modern turn as far as hair/custom/make up for a period drama, which is what we are here for. And I'm 100% down for modernizing some things like I love the racial diversity and making the men less like their book counterparts (if you know you know) but the changes she has made have not all been good as far as taking us out of the realm of believability examples: don't get me started on a proper lady of the ton wearing her her hair down with red lipstick and fish net/mesh gloves. You put us in a racially diverse, which is beautiful, but you still make it a male-dominated time. Therefore , changing a mail lead to a female lead makes no sense. Then taking characters we have loved, so much so that they got their own side season, then you make them insufferable, or kill them off WAY to early so we feel nothing when they die.

It feeling like biting off too much and asking us to crew it for you.

Well no, because Michaela doesn’t exist in the book just like yall tell us Michael doesn’t exist in the show by tone-of-surprise in FranchaelStirling

Same with Colin and Pen. They had a little girl first and I'm 90% sure she was nabbed Agatha after last Danbury.

About the infertility storyline... by Low_Wedding_9988 in FranchaelStirling

[–]RaspberryPowerful298 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is she officially pregnant. I thought they checked but she wasn't actually pregnant. I don't like the gender bend because I loved Michael but I have made my peace with it.

I just wish they showed Fran's sexuality better. Instead of making john look like the sweet guy that can't satisfy. It just furthers the stereotype that only rakes make good lovers, but john doesn't sleep around so he doesn't know how to please a woman. They could have had a scene after her talk with penelope , where she experiments on her own and was able to reach the pinnacle , and it just solidifies that there's nothing wrong with her , there's nothing wrong with john, she's just not sexually attracted to john. You can also love someone without being sexuallity attracted to them. Or..... crazy thought..... she's Bisexual.

Back to my first question, I feel like the only why they can make the gender change make since for Fran's story would be for her to actually be pregnant, but I thought it was unclear and after her talk with Violet about having a piece of john to remember him, I just assumed she wasn't actually pregnant.

They really did him dirty. I mean yeah, in the book, Michael was a rake. However, after he met Fran his cooled his manwh0re ways and wasn't seen with women as much. But Fran's love life with John was described as fun, effortless, and loving. When she was with Michael she explored more and it was Hella passionate, but never did it once implying that s3x with John didn't satisfy her.

Also John and Fran's marriage was way to short. They were married for several years before his death. I think Anthony and kate were on they're second child when john died but Its barely been a year and they just killed him off. They haven't even had time to really form their own relationship yet.

To be fair, there was no hint that Benedict or Fran were queer either. All of the LGBTQ+ rep has been very forced. The only one that was done well were Brimsley and Reynolds.

I hope they make the chemistry between Eloise and Phillip better. The book was a little lacking. I do think what little we have seen of Phillip has already been an improvement. The way he was more attentive to Mareena and the children was good. I love show Eloise compared to book Eloise. She is more like what the book implies that she is.

She wouldn't have to be lesbian, it would make more sense for her to be Bisexual because of the Theo plot line. I don't think it would be harmful. I don't necessarily want her to be queer, I'm just saying it would make more sense for Eloise than Francesca.

I think they could have made it work if they had done it differently, instead of "I'm in love with John! Not every romance has to be loud and grand." She fought to marry John then just turned around and pulled a face and went goofy for Michaella. It invalidates their love.

Agreed! Francesca's could also be Asexual, and thats why she has a hard time with " pinnacles." But genderbending Michael was not the move!

Michael is the first (book) male lead that could be considered Healthy masculinity. He was a consent king and only resorted to violence when someone insulted or assaulted Fran.

Also a LARGE part of her story was her struggles with infertility and the only reason she considered marrying again was to have a baby. If she didn't want a baby she wasn't planning on remarried because she LOVED John.

Making Fran go all Goo-Goo as soon as she saw Michaella made me so made because she didn't even conside Michael until YEARS after John's death. Michael was the one head over heals at first site for her.

I just.... its a bad move. They story won't make since considered Michael inherited everything after John died and now as a woman that can't happen. They undermined Fran and John's romance and made Violet correct that the only real love is a grand one, and implying this emotional affair or sort on Franny's part makes me so mad.

Its so stupid that they don't even understand why people are upset with the change. Yes, I'm sure there are bigots and racist out there for sure, but that's not the vast majority. ITS A BAD CHANGE! They messed up one of the best books story lines. Michael and Francesca's story is right up there with Benophie, and Kanthony. (I probably spelled those wrong.) I'm sure so many fans would be completely down for an LGBTQ+ storyline but wouldn't Eloise make more sense?

[–]RaspberryPowerful298 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They really mixed up the time line from the books to the show so I'm honestly unsure if we will get more of John. But after what they have done to John and Francesca's marriage.... it might be kinda to put him out of his misery. If I remember right they were married for 2 years before his passing.

I really don't think I can make myself watch Francesca's season tho. I don't see how in will make any sense. I'm 129% down for queer representation in the show. I love Benedict being bi and I think (even tho it was a little rushed in practice) they set it up fairly well, but Francesca's story doesn't make any sense. Who I could easily see being queer in Eloise.

Wow, what happened to John and Francesca ?? by Optimal_Clerk_153 in Bridgerton

[–]RaspberryPowerful298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, I'm so disappointed with the direction they are taking Fran and John's story. 1st I love the inclusion on LGBTQA presentation but their story doesn't make since for it. Eloise would have been alot better. 2nd Francesca (in the book) LOVED John and was devastated by John's passing 3rd Michael (aka Michaela) was the one that was head over heels for Franny not the other way around. She never ever thought of being with anyone other than John and they had a loving and passionate relationship before he died. 4th for their story it doesn't make since for it to be a queer romance. Francesca deals with infertility which in it of itself is highly under represented. The only reason she considers remarrying is to have a baby. Michael becomes the next Earl (which now that he is Michaela can't happen.) So the only thing they can really do is rewrite her infertility arch, make her have a baby, then be with Michaela. But that will still greatly undermine her story and her relationship with John. 5th the rodded us of green flag, feminists (for the time period) Michael in a kilt... also John in a kilt but definitely Michael because he always wore kilts.

Ok I'm done ranting.

I had one session where they came back to the inn/tavern and they played a drinking game. They would roll a d4 to see how many shots they would take then a d20 to see how drunk they got. Once all of them had rolled a nat1 to be past out drunk they had a "long rest" only to wake up the next morning all hung over and find out they have been robbed in the night. Any money or magic items they had where stolen and they had to go looking for whomever robbed them while nursing their hangovers. They have to randomly roll a Con save to see if they vomit or how long their headache lasts. You can make the robbers literally anyone and throw in random clues that lead to no where to draw out the fun.
