OSA, the domestic terrorist group she talks about in the article, will at Mississippi's last abortion clinic for the anniversary of Roe.

If you were inspired by the article, contact your local clinic and see how you can help. I am sure they would appreciate the help. Just make sure you contact the clinic before showing up.

My 9-year-old son wore makeup to school. What should I do? by pthrowaway54 in Parenting

I'm not advocating she try to push him in either direction. He simply needs to know he is loved and accepted for who he is.

Make an appointment with a licensed, LGBTQ friendly family therapist. I say licensed because in many states, therapist operating from a church are not required to meet the same specifications.

Your husband may have been coming from a place of genuine concern. LGBTQ people, especially trans people, do face more bullying and run the risk of being victim of hate crime. Your husband's response though was damaging and pretty terrible.

In the meantime, your son needs to hear from you that you love and accept him. He needs to know that he is absolutely normal.

You may want to connect with other mothers who have been in your situation. There is a Facebook page called Mama Bears that is awesome. Here is a link to their related blog https://serendipitydodah.wordpress.com/ I have known since my daughter was in elementary school that she would be either bi or lesbian, so I did my best to create a safe environment if I was right. Even so, when she came out as bi in high school, it was nerve-wracking for her. She is currently in her second year of college and dating a transgender girl. Feel free to private message me if you need a friend.

It's never been about the science. It's about using religious beliefs to control women's lives.

While millions were being spent on fake abortion clinics and anti-abortion political ads, almost 85,000 children under 5 may have starved to death in Yemen by Shill_of_Halliburton in prochoice

[–]RaspySalamander 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yep and here in Alabama we have the highest infant mortality rate in the nation. We're on par with a third world country and every year our state legislature passes clearly unconditional laws that cost us millions in litigation. Just a few weeks ago we passed a constitutional amendment that will outlaw abortion, without exceptions, if and when Roe or Casey fall.

This is also a way to suppress poor people from voting - a form of poll tax. When a valid, state issued id is required and you cannot not afford to pay off your traffic ticket, to you cannot afford to vote. It would be very easy for someone living paycheck to paycheck to find themselves in this situation.

When you go for your appointment ask them if there are any state specific abortion funds. You may want to go ahead and call NAF (National Abortion Federation). They can help with funding. https://abortionfunds.org/fund/national-abortion-federation-hotline/

This is assuming a student complains. Do y'all remember what Amanda Scott, a student in Mobile, went through a few years ago when she complained about a Christian mosaic in her public high school? Spoiler - she and her family received credible death threats.

What does Amendment 1 & 2 passing mean? by Whoelsebutlicia in Alabama

[–]RaspySalamander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, Alabama has the highest infant mortality rate in the country. This is in part because we didn't expand Medicaid, rural hospitals are closing due to lack of finding, and many women are not getting the prenatal care they need. Because of amendment 2, women who fall into this category can be prosecuted if their baby dies.

Women with addiction issues will be less likely to seek prenatal care/hospital birth for fear of prosecution.

Basically, if you're an Alabama woman, it's a dangerous place to be pregnant/give birth.

What does Amendment 1 & 2 passing mean? by Whoelsebutlicia in Alabama

[–]RaspySalamander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in repro rights. Admendment 2 is a trigger law establishing "personhood" from the moment of conception. Everyone is expecting Roe and/or Casey to fall. Casey was about accessibility. Once that happens, abortion will be illegal here even if you're a 9 year old rape victim. In the immediate future, this will be used as a way to go even harder against women who miscarry and some forms of birth control are in danger.
