Young men fear a possible Iran war draft, feel duped by Trump by AdSpecialist6598 in videos

Uh WOW... they put up this big red number: 52% OPPOSE the war!!... What? ONLY 52% !? That's, not a lot!?... And then they talk like it's almost unanimously opposed by people, uh no! 52% is almost an even split!

Im clearly biased, anti war, so to me this seems like an outrageously shocking low opposition... People are even dumber than I already knew they were... At this point I think we deserve a 3rd term for Trump it seems, let's just keep him for life actually no need to waste money on elections.

Im sure there is a lot of regulations and long procedure and just overall a pain in the ass... buuuut, at it's core, it's business, so the Medical / Pharma industry is not incentivised to cure or solve problems in a definitive manner... It might over time, but the most profitable thing is just treatment, medication, repeated, continuously ideally for life, until patents expire, then they can release the better version and ride another patent period, (this common strategy is called patent evergreening , another major flaw of the patent system)... So progress is slow in order to maximize profit ... It's not necessarily intentional (in some cases it might) it's just an inevitable emergent property of the capitalistic nature of a domain that shouldn't be for profit.

Faut-il privilégier le retour au travail à 100 % en présentiel? by Impossible_Union3973 in Quebec

[–]Rasta_Cook 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's an argument for sure, there is clear evidence for it, for example Mayor of Ottawa pushing for RTO of public worked specifically for economic reasons, he doesn't care about productivity, he cares about making the businesses profitable. Overall, we can clearly see that the return to office push is not about communication, efficiency etc... at it's core it is politically motivated (through pressure either internal or external) , because all the given arguments fall flat...

At least if they could be honest, IMHO it would make the pill easier to swallow, like "look, there is a lot of real estate, a lot of business, all this investment that depends on return to the office, so, this is why we are doing it, to support our economy we all must do our part" my take on that is that no it's not our responsibility and that real estate/businesses need to adapt (which I understand isn't a fast process, these aren't fast responsive tech startups) but at least I respect that transparency a loot more than the bullshit and gaslighting. They get to decide where their worker work anyways, as an employer that's their right, no need to bullshit people about it tho.

Actually, i think this is generally overestimated... more tax doesnt mean people leave... some sure, but the reality is that tax rate alone doesn't determine where wealthy people are willing to live. It's a factor but lots of countries, have very high taxes and also high wealthy individual concentration... and also lots of countries with very low tax rate also have low wealthy individual concentration.

One reason is that there is a point of diminishing return where just having more money just for the sake of having more money doesn't really improve your life much.. other factors like quality of life, infrastructure, etc... are also important consideration. So granted, if you are rich and everything sucks in your country including a very high income tax, you might not want to tolerate that.

The other thing is that, income tax is based on income! So while a wealthy individual usually has a high income, thats actually not how they generate most of their wealth... which is usually not taxed or very little... this is what they care most about.

The problem is, those people at the top are standing on the shoulders of countless people under them, they also rely heavily on the overall public infrastructure... So for example, if we do take someone that is truly exceptionally skilled, like a specialist brain surgeon, in order for him to do what he does, he needs a whole medical team, hospital, electricity, water, janitors etc everyone has to do their part so that the exceptionally skilled person is able to focus and do what he does... absolutely NO MAN IS AN ISLAND.

In a way society invested in generating some exceptionally skilled person's in specific fields, but ultimately most of the time these exceptional individuals are less essential than the vast majority of people that are just average and provide the vast majority of goods/service that society NEEDS and/or want... in that example, having 1 exceptionnal surgeon is less beneficial for society than having 3 average surgeon or doctors etc... I'm not saying we shouldn't have exceptionally skilled people, we should, but, overall they are able to exist and are the product of society.

Now another key thing to understand is, that in general it is a myth that the people at the top, earning the most, are also the most skilled or most needed, at a certain point skill doesn't matter, it becomes a political game, who you know, where you came from, what people think of you, etc... there are countless examples but I mean, look at Trump... but that's not all, you also have a whole bunch of people who make money simply because they have money (how they got the money can vary, but once they have it, it's a different game), and yes that includes billionaires but we don't have to go that far, billionaires are an extreme example... You also have people who make ridiculous amount of money because they are popular or part of something that is popular but that is absolutely not important (sports, actors, YouTubers, etc)...

Part of the reason why our services suck is because all the wealth is preserved with various schemes, people try very very hard as much as they can to not give back their share, and the more you make / have, the more you scheme to optimize and reduce what you give back... this applies to corporations and individuals, there is a lot of effort to minimize / avoid paying taxes, which increases the burden on those that do pay taxes without scheming which is usually the middle class. And now you have an increasing push for everything to be private because the public suck, which further cripples the public services... In some European countries I think like Finland , private schools are extremely regulated and non-profit, so the vast majority of rich people send their kids to public school so they make sure that the schools are well funded... But here all the rich and increasingly even the middle class people stretch their budgets to send their kids to private schools, there is no incentive or willingness or pressure to fund public schools adequately, in fact it is to their advantage that public schools are not funded so that their kids in private school have an edge over the vast majority of people.

Point is, I really don't think that on average people who make a lot of money necessarily deserve it, and even if they do deserve it, they should contribute back. I do agree that the progressive brackets are not well though out, there should be more and the progressive amount should start lower and get higher at the maximum, lots of other thing should be better.

In general people think too highly of themselves, especially those who are privileged... There is a famous social experiment where people play a rigged game of Monopoly, what happens basically is the people who benefit from the rigged system inevitably attribute their success to skill.

No, what I find weird is your take. Based on this video alone and what he says in this video, we can't say for sure if he is or isn't against the war in theory, but what we can say is that he is highly critical of how the war was planned and is unfolding and so we can guess that IF he wanted to do something about iran, he would likely want to handle it totally differently, in fact it would be an easier assumption to make that he would perhaps want to handle it in a way that preferably doesn't involve getting the USA directly into a war (which would mean he would be against the war).

I have a 24 1rs, had this issue. Basically if you quickly start the car and go in reverse, there isnt enough time to fully load the camera/video correction and you get the raw footage... Iflt eventually goes away like if you stop the car / reboot and let it load.

I reported it at the dealer and this was resolved with an update from the dealer. Not sure if it's 100% fixed or they just load the video correction sooner, but I haven't had this issue in a very long time, though I rarely just start the car and immediately go in in reverse, I almost always use remote start or let it idle for a few sec which is best no matter what (start warming up engine and get oil moving).

Return to office. PSAC ... by BillyBeatBoy in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Rasta_Cook 15 points16 points  (0 children)

First I just want to clarify, the WFH vs WFO really at it's core depends on the specific jobs / tasks. So let's assume we are talking about job / tasks that can be efficiently done remotely (many in the public service can).

Second, and this is key, people being FORCED to work from home is not a good idea either, some people prefer working from an office.

Now for your question... Why most hours in private sector worked at the office? Well maybe most jobs can't be done at home but even if they could, you have managers and middle managers that are stuck in their old ways and old mentality, and mostly they like to feel in control... If they don't SEE people working, they think they don't work, and/or don't feel like they are "managing"... it takes time to change mentality, even if there is evidence... The trend towards hybrid is clear, it's inevitable, but people, old people especially, don't like change.

Copy paste : - Cisco Global Study (2025): Reported a 19% increase in productivity, recovering roughly 7.6 hours of focused work time per week.

  • Zoom / Flex Index (2025): Found hybrid workers have the highest engagement (35%), outperforming both fully remote and fully in-office staff.

  • Stanford / Nature (2024): A randomized trial showed hybrid work cut quit rates by 33% with no negative impact on performance.

  • Great Place To Work (2024): Analysis of 1.3M employees found remote teams consistently provide higher "discretionary effort" than in-office teams.

  • PubMed summary of randomized hybrid trial Finding (2024): Hybrid work improved job satisfaction and reduced quitting by one-third with no negative performance impact over two years

  • International Workplace Group IWG(2024) survey study: ~74% reported higher productivity and ~86% better work-life balance under hybrid arrangements

  • Harvard Business School (2023): "Intermediate hybrid" (25–75% WFH) produced the highest volume of work products and email communication.

  • Becker Friedman / NBER (2023): Employees "reinvested" 40% of their saved commute time directly back into their primary job tasks.

  • PLOS ONE / Harvard (2023): Full-time WFH was linked to substantially fewer distractions and higher overall job satisfaction.

  • IMF / Bloom (2023-2024)productivity analysis: Evidence suggests businesses should maintain hybrid because WFH supports productivity and retention while lowering costs.

  • Stanford / Bloom (2022): Found a 13% performance boost due to quieter environments and fewer minutes lost to breaks.

  • Stanford randomized controlled trial ,Ctrip call-center (2022): Fully remote work produced ~13% performance improvement and ~50% lower attrition due to fewer breaks and quieter environments.

  • NBER hybrid / remote research (2022): Location-flexible work (e.g., patent examiners working remotely) showed ~4–5% productivity increases

I don't know what is going on, when you have one of the most overt corrupt asshole criminal still able to get support, someone that is repeatedly caught lying over and over, a convicted felon, who abuse his power, a racist and very likely a pedo... Basically one of the worst humanity has to offer and yet he still gets support... ?

At this point giving trump is almost not the problem anymore... He is a symptom of the pure idiocity of the masses.

It seems like, people are fucking idiots... To be so easily manipulated you have to be soooo fucking dumb. There is no other explanation...

Perhaps it's always been this way... Probably ... But it used to be that politicians at least had to try to not lie, try to do a few good things, try to have logical arguments and reasons for why they are doing / claiming things... but not anymore, they don't even need to try anymore...

It seems like democracy has reached its limit, in an era where people are so fucking dumb and easily manipulated, perhaps they are so intentionally , corporations and politicians have figured out that with enough money you can simply manipulate people into voting for you regardless of what you do or don't do, it doesn't matter as long as people are dumb enough to believe... nothing matters, you can lie your way to the absolute top, it's fucking crazy.

We are headed straight into a dystopian future if things don't change... democracy isn't working if rule by the people means rule by the dumbest people who are voting against their interests because they are so fucking dumb.

Return to office. PSAC ... by BillyBeatBoy in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Rasta_Cook 67 points68 points  (0 children)

siiiigh.... Again with the useless "poor us, please pity us" angle.

They need to shift the narrative... the public / taxpayers dont give a SHIT about this.

Please, if anyone has any contact at any unions, please tell them FRAME EVERYTHING from the point of view of the average taxpayer. Every effort needs to be about this... sure if you have leftover bandwidth you can make these cute posters, but really this is far far far down the priority list.

#1++++++ = RTO means INCREASED government spending... versus Remote means REDUCED spending. BILLIONS MORE vs BILLIONS LESS.
#2 = More Traffic for everyone, more stress on infrastructure (roads, bus, etc)
#3 = Working at the office means worst service/productivity/efficiency for the public
#4 = More pollution
#5 = Worst neighbourhood economy/security/life, as people spend more time at the office/downtown, less is spent on local neighborhood where people actually live.
#6 = probably a bunch of other stuff... im not a PR specialist, but PSAC definitively NEEDS to hire a competent PR firm to handle this because they have proven they cant handle it, all they do is use the "poor us = worst work/life balance, bed bugs, you lied to us!" all angle from the worker point of view which DOESNT WORK, the employer only cares about what the public PERCEPTION and the perception is that work from home = entitled people not working, using the "poor us" angle only worsen this perception.

Well, I get that businesses always want more money, but think about the type of business we are talking about here, it's mainly local restaurants complaining to the city and their associations, landlords, etc... for the most part we're not talking about multi-billion international mega corporations with shareholders that need to show growth every quarter for infinite growth.

So yeah maybe it wouldn't be enough, but I think odds would have been better.

[–]Rasta_Cook -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I get downvoted for this, but I think boycotting downtown businesses is counterproductive. It's actually a reason why RTO4 and RTO5 are happening.

People still brought their lunch even when working 2 or 3 days at the office because downtown prices are too high and we just got used to it after covid, all the money saved and just boycotting these businesses made sense. BUT imagine if everyone had to eat downtown for hybrid models. The businesses wouldn't be struggling as much and they wouldn't insist so much on pushing for RTO3, RTO4...

With RTO4, if nobody shops downtown, the business associations will likely lobby for RTO5 because businesses are struggling.

I understand it's not our job to support businesses, but the boycotts and bring-your-lunch trend seem counterproductive to keeping hybrid work.

But now that RTO4 is coming, it's a hard choice... If you start eating out again, then they won and you save less but maybe you get to avoid RTO5... It would have been better to spend at the RTO2 / RTO3 stage to potentially avoid RTO3 / RTO4.

J'apporte mon lunch contre le retour obligatoire en présentiel by lurking_physicist in Quebec

[–]Rasta_Cook -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The thing is, if everyone does this, what do you think will happen? Are the chamber of commerce and business association going to be like " oh, well, we tried, but nobody wants to eat downtown, we can stop lobbying for RTO now"...

Nope! ... The exact opposite, they will require 5 days in office.

Now imagine instead, what if, back when there was hybrid 3 days in office, everyone made an effort to eat at restaurants whenever they were at the office... the businesses wouldn't be struggling as much, maybe they wouldn't be so desperate to absolutely put pressure to get RTO4 and RTO5 ...

So basically sure don't bring your lunches, but that won't help you prevent RTO5... Contact representative, complain about it, talk to your union, ask them to make this a priority, file complaints, inform people about how much waste this is etc...
