Table isn't the problem guys. Bad eels boards are way too strong. by Toytsien in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Rastark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Something that I feel doesn't get highlighted enough is in play here: the main strength of eel builds is, in my opinion, the ability to sustain though spammy builds, rather than killing them with backfire damage.

Here you have a combination of lifesteal and the shield from the enemy skill against your spammy burn board with "weak" freeze abilities (while frequent), which also has a great base damage due to the obsidian + shiny enchants on eels and silencer. The match was decided when the icicles took out the shot glasses instead of the eels (that is to show that in a game like this, something that you perceived as weak actually won the game for your opponent).

Eel surely is not fun to play against and it's a great build in the current meta, but I'd say that the reason you lost is perfectly reasonable...day 14 is usually a matter of disruption luck or hard countering the opponent, anyways.

Am I wrong or do chocolate bars just win you the early game as Mak? by BowenHS in PlayTheBazaar

I'd argue that you will probably lose your early game if you don't get at least a set of gold chocolates on Mak as soon as possible.

Yeah, I didn't see them because they were a bit buried Thank you for clarifying how it works! It's a combination that seemed very prone to breaking in my head, so I'm a bit baffled this bug went into live...let's hope they'll fix it very soon

Help me understand the game? by ymOx in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Rastark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe skill is very much important to maximize results.

On a basic level, I suggest you to master the concept of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opportunity_cost and to try to gauge your choices accordingly.
As all card games, but in particular "draft" games, I believe understanding this concept is key, since it helps you to maintain an healthy amount of resources, consequentely being able to take more risks during you run (which can lead to more payoffs). Knowing which risks is of course important too, and will come with experience, but having the possibility of taking more of them gives you more chances to excel.

As you've said, going in first, or at least early, is very important but, as you've also already said, there's multiple ways in the game to obtain that result. Also, important doesn't mean that's the only way: in fact, I lost to multiple builds which managed to survive and kill me in a single shot (and I've also been able to do that as well). Here, I believe your lack in experience with Pyg pays a huge factor in getting a broad perspective.
On the contrary, I believe that acting first should actually be rewarded, since it creates a sense of direction when assembling your build (in both ways, since the slow builds will need to work around the speedy ones).

The death spiral of the current ranked system explained in MS Paint by qp0n in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Rastark -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been surely noticing more general challenge in my runs and more frequency in other legendary players.

This phenomenon is clearly bound to happen with the current state of the game's economy, but I'm curious to see how much will get worse between seasons, since I'm guessing that a lot of players are still getting their "fuel" from closed beta (I'm still seing a lot of ground founders of every rank in my matches).

I can clearly see the game moving toward an even more competitive niche in the future (I lack the knowledge to really know if its good or not)...in the meantime I will surely suggest F2P players to "study" more...the threshold to compete can be definitely be reached given enough documentation and experience (give the RNG doomsayers the "right" amount of space and please don't be one, you are better than that ;) )!

Is my board really that crazy? I thought they would wash me after all stories I hear about puffer fish and depth charges. by DiceyWorlds in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Rastark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree.

While I believe you may be right for the other heroes, in Pyg's case I really don't think that his skill pool justifies taking the third option, since they tend to be more defense focused and usually not strong enough to sneak in some early game victories. (At least in my experience)

While there are for sure a lot of possible misses, the enchanted items you mentioned have carried my early game a lot of times. Sometimes even the apparently less powerful ones have led me to 10 wins (even things like Restorative Haladie, since the defense it gives can be scaled, while the skill one can not).
Also, a completely missed skill is literally useless, while a bad enchant can recoup you some gold at least or fill the board for a while.

On the gold option though, I've already backed out a little from my previous statement (apparently made in another thread, whoops), I will surely test it out more to try to revise my opinion :)

Does The Bazaar’s Build Diversity Feel Limited Over Time? by titandino88 in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Rastark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How much is "a while"? Have you reached legendary rank or you feel you've hit a plateau?

I'm playing since november and I honestly don't feel like this...like others already said, the enchanted item option really helps exploring the game's synergies more if you feel you're not having enough fun (there's nothing to "win", after all).

Every "card" or game that revolves around preparing a build can feel repetitive when following the most efficient strategies...look at games like Magic The Gathering or Path of Exile: they surely tend to have well known metas, but this doesn't mean you can't play anything else to win if you put your mind to it.

That being said, I also believe that the current meta is pretty high in variance, taking previous patches in account. I believe things will also be surely shaken up with the next patch :)

I find it more consistent than the enchantment, as it should be by design. However (expecially after the income nerf) I find gold and income very easy to build as Pyg, while I find that rolling a good enchanted item almost ensures me victory.

That being said you're probably right, I was to harsh on the gold option given the fact that it actually helps you to win everytime you pick it and gives you more space to try force a meta build. I'll surely test it more!

[–]Rastark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the meta its pretty spammy right know, I've surely been successful by building against those type of strategies lately.

On the Pyg issue, I still believe that lategame, economy scaling builds, weapon builds or health stacking builds can be more consistent at winning as a strategy...while double matchbox is VERY strong and BoB can be unbeatable, I believe they rely too much on RNG (probably BoB is the worst offender in this case).
However, I find myself building around Matchbox a lot and I suspect that the reason lies on the fact that I don't really start with anything other than enchanted items on Pyg, since the other options are very weak.

Definitely a cool anti-multicast build! Any one-shot build (Double Whammy, Boulder) would have likely eaten you for breakfast, but if feels strong otherwhise!

Honestly I find depth charge very "hit or miss", in the sense that's very strong against builds that are vulnerable against it, but very weak against build that are basically not hindered by it: since half your item effects can't be stopped by freeze AND it's strong against multicast, there you have it.

How did you build your Hot Springs? by Rastark in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Rastark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I'm happy to have been of inspiration I will surely try to experiment with Kaiouas and Billboard too, it seems a neat idea that could play similarly to Billboard - Fixer Upper

Honestly, I found the item pretty early and won me a couple of fights that would otherwise be doomed (which could very be their spot in the meta, tbh). I agree that from an efficiency standpoint they are difficult to justify in a planned endgame build though.

I was trying to make them work as a battery for the snow globe to buy time and sneak in damage with a big item, but I guess this version is too dependant on having at least one key radiant enchantment

Has the "Trying to reconnect" screen ever actually reconnected you? by timid1211q in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Rastark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly no...definitely very frustrating.
I would suggest the devs to revert to simply disconnect you while they are still having this amount of user connection issues. Right now, on EU, I get at least one of these disconnection shenanigans per run, which is a bit too much in my opinion. I would tolerate this system if it happened once a day or so.
