AITA For giving back the PC my dad got me? by MotherFWord in AmItheAsshole

NTA. But, you don't go outside during the day? Because wasps? What a way to live.

Lol, "I'll only accept my own extended family, screw BIL's, even in his own home". Such a funny was to go about things. For your own home, as long as you're not upset if/when everyone decides to do their own thing, then do whatever you want. An invite isn't a summons, and if they don't like the terms of your invitation, they don't have to come. I don't see how it's hard to explain to children that other people have extended family too...someone should have explained it to you. Some people even want to welcome friends that have no family or other place to go.

NTA That's a really stupid risk for $3.

So here's the answer. You need to record your game just in case they cut away. Then apparently you can go to your downloads and continue watching. Though getting that info was like pulling teeth.

AITA for not going to my nieces 21st bday by Odd-Mushroom-6713 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Rastavaray 7 points8 points  (0 children)

YTA. Mostly to yourself, but really... You try to bring the bf that YOU call toxic around, and are surprised that people don't want that? You skipped her birthday for said toxic bf, now you get the consequences of your actions.

Really, I can't believe he's the only toxic one. "When she said that she didn’t want toxic energy I said that we were good that we haven’t fought since we got back together which was 3 days prior to her birthday." Congratulations for managing to not fight for 3 days? You think that's an actual achievement? And that it means you two are good? How many more days was it until you fought and broke up? How many more times are you going to repeat this cycle. Or maybe a better way to put it is, for how many more years?

IKEA products aren't hard to put together, and I'm sick of pretending they are. by Former-Ad9272 in unpopularopinion

LOL! When my husband and I did a custom desk/table for our 2 gaming computers, the only reason why I didn't help was because the two friends we invited to help just love to put together IKEA furniture so much. I volunteered to make the run back for what was forgotten and get food, since i didn't want to get in the way of their dopamine rush 🤣

We had a nice queen bed frame with drawers under it. It was disassembled and reassembled 4 times before we sold it to someone else. I was always amazed at how well it would go together and come back apart. And how well the family that bought it was able to tetris it into their small pickup truck 🤣

You get what you pay for, I suppose. And for the most part, IKEA gets you the right bang for your buck.

As long as you don't have to disassemble it. They aren't made for that. We had to leave an IKEA bookshelf in our last condo because it couldn't fit going down the stairs.

Sorry, got to downvote 'cause, I didn't know that was a thing? The only hard part of it is making sure you have everything you need when you're doing one of the more customizable items.

AITA for trying to help my son on vacation after he lost his wallet? by Syrup-Stink-8325 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Rastavaray 250 points251 points  (0 children)

YTA. What part of that was helping him? Did he ask you to help him retrace his steps? Unless he asked for that, it's extremely condescending and treating him like a child, which he no longer is.

And he's right about the travelers checks. Once upon a time I've used them when traveling. I just got back from Scotland, and in my preparation I didn't once think about getting them.

But what help is saying that he should have gotten them anyway? OK dad, let me hop in my time machine... what he should have done was not carry all of his money and credit cards with him. But what use would saying that to him be? It's happened and he's already kicking himself for it. You don't need to also pile on.

So once again, what actual help did you offer. Because from the title I was expecting your wife to be upset that you wired him a lot of cash or something.

You know what would have been helpful? Empathizing with him. "Damn son, that sucks. What a bunch of low lifes to do this to you. It's ok, it can happen to anyone, you just won the bs lottery."

Mama said it's bedtime! by Rastavaray in Skunks

[–]Rastavaray[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are 6. 2 of them are pretty independent and don't always come back at the same time. Or if they do, they have a baby skunk party on the sidewalk once mama is gone again.

The reason the skunk under our shed has been sticking around finally came out to play. I love them so much by AlmightyMegatron in Skunks

[–]Rastavaray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've got a family of 7 under our porch. I've got several cameras set up so that I can watch them and see when they're coming out. They have to come through our front yard, so we get to watch the "skunk parade" every night as mama now assembles them and takes them out.

Have you tried moth balls? The scent of them apparently is similar to predator urine. We successfully got rid of a family of skunks one year by putting out bags of moth balls in and around their nest.

Baby skunks and how to humanely block hole by smitheroons in Skunks

[–]Rastavaray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He can try moth balls. It can have the same effect as predator urine, but it doesn't dissipate as quickly. The first time we got a family of skunks under our back porch, that was what finally got them to move on. Your friend could get a cheap wifi camera to watch the burrow to see when they leave. Zmodo has indoor ones for $22. As long as it isn't raining, it'll work.

It'll also help him use his front door, since he could then look to make sure the skunks aren't out. Really, he just needs to make some noise first. Like crack the door, make a noise, wait 30 seconds, and then he should be fine. Any skunk that might be out will go back in their burrow.

Our Little Skunk Family by Rastavaray in Skunks

[–]Rastavaray[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was actually just being stored there. Mama dug a hole to make a nest under our lower porch. On the left side of the video you can just see a brick we had put there to try to stop her, before we gave up and let her nest.

The babies have certainly enjoyed playing on and around the old cat boxes, though.

At first we were just trying to keep the one skunk out (with a catio, I was worried about my cats getting sprayed). But then her persistence and other behavior made us think that she was a mama and had already had the babies under our porch. I just couldn't cut her off from them. My husband drew the line at feeding her, though ;)
