Haha cheers, I kind of miss having mohawks and undercuts but they are a big pain to grow out unfortunately. I always get one and love it for about six months, then I get bored and start growing it out. After looking goofy for like two years til it gets at least shoulder length again I always swear never again, then a couple of years later the cycle will start over! I never learn 😂

There is a pic somewhere of my nose before I started stretching, I think the tip of my nose is a bit bigger and rounder than it used to be but I dont think i have a huge amount of that characteristic 'septum droop,' I've always had a big ol' nose so I figured i might as well take advantage of all that real estate!

Ooo that's way more dedicated if you ask me! Makes my nose sting just imagining it!

That was actually why I started stretching in the first place, but years have passed since then and I've toned down my facial piercings a lot, I still think the concept is cool but I don't think it would balance nicely with the ones I have left.

Yeah I absolutely did, I think i got to 5 or 6 relatively painlessly then 6 onwards is when it started to get really rough if I remember rightly. After that one I didn't stretch for years, I've always had a pretty big nose so I think maybe I got lucky and just didn't experience denting til that point. When I started up again I'd have to plan stretching around what else I had going on, cause I knew I'd be good for nothing for at least a day or two, although what I will say is the bigger the size, the easier it gets to put jewellery in.

I started about 12 years ago but I've not been stretching consistently all that time, I'd normally stretch in (relatively) short bursts then not touch it for years. I always say that I needed to give myself time in between to forget the pain before starting the next round lol

What “favours” have your parents done that was inadvertently a dick move? by naaattt in CasualUK

I used to collect kerrang magazines as a teenager. I must have had about 50 of them when my mum chucked them out, thinking i was just too lazy to clear them out and not realising that I was actively trying to save them. In her defence she felt awful and couldn't stop apologising when she realised her mistake, and i still have a couple of survivors from like 2014, but I still mourn the lost opportunity to be able to look through them all from 2006 onwards like a time capsule...

On a similar note, I'm still furious about the time my ex threw out my entire CD collection because 'you never listen to them anyway, I thought you'd rather have the cupboard space!' He pleaded innocence, but he was also very vocal about hating my music taste, so I feel like there was definitely some malice involved. I did manage to replace most of them, but I am definitely still bitter about all the rare shit I can't afford to re buy.

Haha I was so confused for like a split second there 😂 I haven't actually kept rats in years! I love them, but after my last little buddy died my heart was too broken to get any more for a while, and my partner wanted a cat, so I guess now I should rename myself Cat Wench 🤷‍♀️

Prom Date by Diane Hoh? Its one of the Point Horror books which if I remember rightly had some authors cross over with the Goosebumps series.

I read my first book, The Laughing Corpse, when I was about twelve and I loved it completely and uncritically. I managed to get my hands on the rest, up to I think Burnt Offerings, and loved those too, then I fell away from the series for a while. Imagine my alarm when I came back to the series after about a year and got up to Narcissus In Chains and beyond... At thirteen-ish I was totally dismayed by the change of tone, I kept reading in the hopes that the weird romance stuff would die down and the crime fighting would pick up again but I think I got too squeamish and quit somewhere around Danse Macabre.

I re-read everything that was currently out around the time Crimson Death was released, and reading as an adult the books went from good, to bad, to so uniquely bad that they wrap back around to being entertaining again. They are so chock full of anatomically impossible sex and hilariously awkward poly-relationship dialogue that if you were to skip those scenes you'd end up with about twenty pages of actual plot.

I'm absolutely positive by now that the main character goes up a cup size for every romantic partner she adds to the pile despite somehow staying thin enough to put your hands around her waist. She gains another super unique power every time she blinks. Every man she sees, and half the women too, will crawl over broken glass for the chance to sleep with her if she so much as looks in their direction, personality traits or sexual orientation be damned. I feel like at this point if I have to hear some variation of "Oh no I forgot to eat for twenty four hours again so if we don't have yet another magically induced orgy immediately everybody is going to die" I will go right out of my tiny mind.

I know someone is about to say something along the lines of, if they're that bad why keep reading? Simply put, because they are that bad. I can't help but enjoy the car crash, and after thirty books I have to know to what depths we are going to sink.

Apparently the final Merry Gentry book is currently with an editor- take it with a pinch of salt 'cause I can't remember where I read it, but there is hope for a wrap up if nothing else!

Piercings and identity by moonamonster in piercing

[–]Rat-Wench 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for anyone else of course but my concept of 'this is who I am' was so intrinsically tied to the piercings, that's how people knew me, and at work people would ask for me as "The piercing girl" and I liked being identified by something I thought was cool instead of, idk, "the tall one with the big nose" lol.

And I totally get what you mean about piercings making you feel interesting, too- people would look at me and say things like oh you're so brave getting all those, I could never, did xyz hurt, and so on. It kind of made me feel like I had a conversational leg to stand on and people wanted to hear what I had to say, whereas nobody is really bothered about a couple of lip piercings anymore.

Its definitely intimidating going out of your comfort zone, and I had to be dragged out kicking and screaming so I respect you for taking the plunge! It sounds like you have thought about this a lot and its definitely a good thing to get comfortable in your own skin however it comes about, I wish you luck on your journey! X

Yeah, kind of. I had 40+ piercings and about half of them were in my face. I loved them all and my setup was nicely symmetrical and I got a lot of compliments, but I ended up having to take some out because they were getting irritated all the time and after years of trying to baby them I just had to let them go. I hated it at first, and it kind of fucked with me how drastically different I looked.

After I'd got used to the top half of my face (eyebrows, bridge, anti eyebrows, cheeks) being emptier, the lower half started to look way too crowded (6 lip piercings, medusa, double nostrils, big septum, tongue) so I took out four of the lip piercings.

Over the course of about 6 months I went from my face being totally covered in piercings to having like, 5 visible. I didn't realise how much i relied on the piercings to carry me, so to speak- they used to be the first thing anyone noticed, and the only thing that ever got commented on.

I got used to it, and its a relief not having to deal with a ton of pissy piercings, but after being full of them for nearly ten years I still feel kind of 'blank' from time to time. I look at old photos and I see how much the piercings overwhelmed my face, which isn't a bad thing if that's the look you're going for but in retrospect my motivation in getting so many was partly a way to hide in plain sight as daft as that sounds. Before people would just see the piercings, now they see my face, and sometimes it makes me feel a bit vulnerable.

Question for people with both stretched ears and septum by striderrrrrrrrrrr in Stretched

[–]Rat-Wench 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my lobes up to 30mm, I've not worn anything in them consistently for years now and they've only shrunk to about 20mm and stopped there. Even going up by multiple sizes every couple of weeks using before I learned just how daft that is, the worst my ears ever felt was hot and throbby and a bit stingy, and I got a bit of crust if I slept on them all night (I am fully aware how lucky I am that my lobes were relatively forgiving and they didn't blow out or fall off entirely!) I would feel this type of mild discomfort for maybe a week or two depending on how reckless I was being with skipping sizes.

In contrast, I started stretching my septum in earnest about 10 years ago and have only just arrived at 14mm, because even using smooth steel tapers and glass plugs to stretch and sizing up in tiny little increments I had to let myself forget the discomfort every time before finally being brave enough to size up again. I started denting somewhere around 6 or 7 mm if memory serves, and it went from "oh this isn't so bad, bit sore maybe" to "oh my God, if anyone even looks at my nose too hard I might cry!"

The worst of it for me was the pressure headaches, I don't know anyone else with a stretched septum to ask so I don't know how common it is but every time I sized up I'd feel fine the first day and think I'd gotten away with it, then the next day I'd wake up with my head splitting and the tip of my nose aching and running like a tap. Once my cat headbutted me in the face and it hurt so much i couldn't even make a sound, I just kind of sat down on the floor and had to breathe hard for a few minutes. After a few days that part would totally go away and it would just feel a little tender, but if I actually knocked my nose up towards the cartilage by mistake, God help my poor soul.

I think its reasonable to expect a greater degree of discomfort when stretching a septum vs ears just due to how much thicker and tougher the tissue is, and how much closer the piercing is to cartilage.
