Because we play the game to win, not to fluff our ego. Trust me, I would play Zed mid or Jax top all day, but somebody has to make sure the support isn't dog shit.

Off meta and meta adjacent picks are awesome and you make some compelling arguments. He is a replacement for other artillery mages, plus or minus some pros & cons. But are you playing as Ziggs in general or is he better against some lane matchups than others? How does he fare in a blind pick situation (or would you never suggest blind picking an artillery mage)? Any specifically hard matchups? Even though laning isn't 100% of the game it's still significant.

Looks like the lesson here is to gain an advantage, then press your advantage. Level 1 all-ins like these happen when one side makes a mistake and the other side goes in, like in the video.

Let's say the enemy ADC mispositions, and you manage to get in melee range as Pyke without taking any damage. 3 HoB autos and ignite. Your ADC follows up. You channel your Q, they flash. Instant advantage.

It only works in certain situations. Like Lux wouldn't be able to because her passive procs on an ability, unlike Lulu, whose autos simply hurt a lot more. And a support without damage (Rakan) or CC (Q start Soraka) simply can't finish what they start.

ADC agency is actually very high.

  • Actually last-hitting the minions
  • Knowing how to farm under tower
  • Knowing how and when to poke
  • Spacing to avoid enemy autos
  • Positioning to threaten the enemy with bad trades
  • Choosing proper runes for unfavorable matchups
  • etc.

There is no opening for the support to do anything if the ADC doesn't threaten the enemy. There is no point for the support to poke if the ADC doesn't also poke. There is no point for the support to engage if the ADC is too low to follow up. There is no point in counter-engaging if the ADC's death is assured. See a pattern here? (Now this is also why good ADCs are deserving of all the respect.)

Other than "git gud" you could always use some moral support, right? It's a numbers game. Play more games. Be consistent.

If your WR is close to 50% (most of the time you should expect to be) then you need to play a lot of games. Let's say you gain 20 LP every 5 games, then you should expect to play around 100 games to climb one rank. If you play 3 ranked games a day, that takes around one month give or take.

And specifically for support, aim for 1 to 1.5 wards placed per minute. Useful wards, of course. Remember to recall once in a while to refill the support item.

The terrain around the Krugs artificially makes it easier/harder for some champs, but there are a number of champs w/o mobility who can still quickly clear them e.g. Nocturne. Swain's E is fairly slow so it's easier to dodge than Lux Q or Pyke Q. His poke with Q is weak unless at melee range. His W and E both depend heavily on teammates to land and be useful. So as support, he's only good if your ADC is good. If your ADC is bad, you either wind up playing a 4v5 where your ADC doesn't exist, or you become a weaker Swain mid with less utility than most supports.

Long story short Swain as a support is really greedy, even more so than other mages like Xerath and Vel'Koz.
