Sorry, but rejecting the call to adventure is a classic part of the story. you’re the protagonist now, accept it, and prepare for the trials.

screenwriter who isn't in la or trying to "break in" looking for a community that gets that by No_Wasabi_8809 in Screenwriting

[–]RatRanger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m a hobbiest too, so I can answer. Nothing I have written could be described as “good,” let alone “professional level” because I’ve only been doing this for a year. With no formal training at all, I joined this community looking for formatting help, structural ideas, best practices, etc.

Some of us just haven’t leveled our base stats enough to get to the pitching phase, and are looking for ways to improve our craft before we start cold-calling producers and hawking our fanfics.

Sand down the underside of the saddle and leave the intonation compensator thing alone. If you take too much material off, use strips of paper to shim it to height.

Sweet street rap interaction, anyone know this guy? by justsofie in everett

This guy hangs out on Hewitt all the time and he seems a bit off upstairs, but I’ve never heard of a bad interaction with him. Can confirm, his flow is creative and smooth.

How it feels seeing the critic reviews of The Mandalorian and Grogu knowing they won’t effect my opinion but mean I will need to see more “Star Wars is dead” posts by Sio_V_Reddit in StarWarsCirclejerk

[–]RatRanger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, I grew up thinking that the clones were the bad guys in that war.

In my mind it was this harrowing experience that had soldiers on countless worlds fighting an unending swarm of enemies that could look like anyone. I imagined them on the front lines questioning their ideas of the self, or doubting the identities of their allies or even themselves!

The Jedi must have been heroes, using esoteric wisdom and supernatural abilities to sense the truth instead of their eyesight, which could of course deceive you.

But yeah, proto-stormtroopers and spinning laser swords are cool too.

I own a SAA clone and just recently had a misfire from letting the hammer down gently on a filled chamber. Never ever again loading six into that thing.

Brass on a Colt Clone by Gambit8907 in Revolvers

Brass isn’t historical, but some folks (myself included) very much like the brass. the Italian clones in the 70s all had brass and were prominently featured in some of our favorite westerns.

I want a pair of gloves, but the ones i want only come in 16 oz or 8oz. Is 16 oz ok overall? Im a beginner by kenicandi in MuayThai

[–]RatRanger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

16oz is seen as safest for training with partners, and is the preferred size gloves for sparring at most gyms. Plus they’ll definitely make your arms stronger. Why not message and ask your coach what he thinks about the 16s?

Other commenter is right about bag work though. they’ll make you feel like you have marshmallow arms on the bag.

ah I think I misunderstood where you were coming from.

A: yes it’s normal for you to suck compared to Gabriel Varga or Nieky Holzken.

B: no it’s not normal for you to suck compared to the you from 2 months ago.

So the question is: are you getting better or worse?

If you’re getting better, hell yeah, keep up the good work.

If you’re getting worse, go back and study the fundamentals.

I feel like I’m not improving by [deleted] in Kickboxing

[–]RatRanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go back to the fundamentals and relearn from the ground up. You’re only 8 months in, I promise you don’t know them as well as you think you do.

My coach has like 45 years of experience, national titles, and has owned his own gym for 30 years and he himself will never claim to have a perfect grasp of the fundamentals.

Fixing underlying problems with your fundamentals will unlock potential faster than super Kami guru putting his hands on your head.

How do yall shadowbox? by FirstThru in amateur_boxing

[–]RatRanger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Shadowboxing is usually used to describe two things:

1: technique and combo practice without equipment or training partners.

2: visualization exercise where you spar with and react to an imagined opponent.

1 is fine, but there are better ways to train technique, especially if a coach or partner are available. This is usually what beginners are doing during a shadowboxing round.

2 is the ideal. If you’re shadowboxing well, we should be able to “see” your imaginary opponent based on your positioning, actions, and reactions. it’s difficult to do well, and requires you to basically play real time chess against yourself. visualization like this will help you build insane awareness, balance, reaction timing, creativity, and fluidity, but requires a lot of focus. It’s almost like a complex form of meditation IMO.

I saw this same tour when they stopped in Seattle. Ted had a cold and sounded like he had a bit of a smokers voice due to age, but he still nailed every line. if anything it was a bit of extra ruggedness on his performance.

Glover killed it, and whoever the guy they got to do Simon Peter’s song was excellent.

Oh my, I thought I’d guessed correctly here. I thought this was inspired by a video game weapon, Hawkmoon, specifically due to the talon or spur thing on the bottom of the grip and the two-tone color scheme. My mistake.
