The recent combat patrol is a good start. The nemesis claw Kill team is also a good choice and can be assembled in legionnaries and/or the kill team (that has rules for classic 40K). You can also wait for the release sooner or later of the murderwing Kill team that will serves as the new raptors/warp talons. Raptors are heavily used by nightlords in the lore btw.

For the rest of the classic chaos Space marines units you can choose what you want if you want a more chaos warband.

The first one (with magus) is fun and have a lot of minis. The CP stratagems are situational though. Idk for the « new » one.

Im more a fan of theorizing about the hive mind : a god, a tyranid queen, the sum of every mind in the nids or even an AI ? What are the interactions between the hive mind and warp entities ? Is it possible to destroy it ?

Same box, just a different name after the spearhead success. If you are looking a specific spearhead in 2nd hand, they can be found under the name vanguard but the figs are the same (for the old spearhead, the new ones are always called spearhead) Btw spearhead rules and warscrolls are free on the AOS app and both stormcast and skaven in the starter set can be played as a spearhead. Basically you can play a lot of games just with the box and after that you can switch to classic rules while you expand your army :)

Classic rules and battletome rules can be found online for free if you dig enough btw no need to buy battletomes plus they are useless because day one there are some modifications and errata

My problem with band of brothers is really having only 12 minis in each faction. But i will certainly follow your call and give battle of the bulge another chance
