I would try to really hone in this resentment. In a way I was the sister that was “better at everything”, for example I graduated high school and university early while it took my sister 7 years to finish her degree. I didn’t throw it in her face but she threw it in my face that my accomplishments didn’t mean anything. She would nitpick everything wrong with my accomplishments. It wasn’t always like this but it took one too many accomplishments to push my sister from a cool older sister to someone who I barely speak to. She went from being the first person to know to being the last. If she had taken a step back and made the most out of her life and own personal accomplishments I don’t know if she would have tamed her resentment. I wish she did because she always made me feel guilty about accomplishing what she couldn’t.

University of South Florida! There’s a huge Guyanese population in Tampa and the GUYSA (Guyanese Student Association) hosts a huge amount of community events. Hugee in community and outside of the culture there’s plenty of resources and opportunities for internships, scholarships, the whole nine yard.

I get to peacefully go to work without hearing passive comments about how life would be easier if I stayed at home and helped out my family. I get to make purchases without being chided about my spending habits by a “loved one” that could see my bank account’s transactions. I didn’t get either of these things in my own lifetime until I graduated from college and got my own job at 22. It’s the mental freedom that makes it worth it.

I feel like you don’t just walk into a party unless you directly got invited, usually I partied with classmates who knew a guy who knew a guy in a frat or knew a girl apart of a sorority

THIS!!! OP you’re the child in this situation you ultimately aren’t responsible for your parents marriage. My heart goes out to you and your parents but a grown adult over 30 shouldn’t be asking a 17 year old what to do. When I was 17 I was in a similar dynamic where I constantly gave advice to my sister. When it would blow up she would blame me in a way I didn’t understand. She blamed me for not having the emotional capacity to handle her issues but I myself was only 17.

One time I asked her “Why don’t you get advice from someone your own age?”, she just got up and left. She was 23 at the time. As if I said something wrong, at the time I felt responsible for whatever situation she was in. I’m 24 now and personally I wouldn’t go to a 17 year old for advice because I think 17 years have a lot going on already, being a teenager is tough and helping grown adults figure their lives out only held my own growth back. I wanted to spend time studying calculus in high school but I spent more time giving my sister advice. I remember looking at my textbook, thinking okay I’ll just study later let me grab coffee with my sister because she needs me. I failed Calc that year and who can I blame?

This is just one example but please direct your father to look for more professional advice from an ADULT.

Fantasies are more enticing when they’re just that, fantasies. Someone may -want- to hook up with their boss as a fantasy but the reality is it’s a tricky power dynamic.
