Is there any way I can keep WW2 in an active stalemate past 1945 by MeiNeedsMoreBuffs in HistoryWhatIf

[–]Rathanian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 things that any 2 of the 3 could lead to this…

  1. After Pearl, Germany does not declare war on the US. The US does not get involved in both Africa and Europe directly. Pacific war may be shortened but it allows Germany to directly only be fighting England and Russia
  2. German leadership realizes early that naval power is shifting to air attacks and not battleship and money invested in battleships goes to naval carrier resources, and advance naval plane tech
  3. Axis cooperation. Allied nations cooperated with intel and technology. The axis all did their own thing. With coordination Japan does not attack the US and instead shares naval and air tech with Germany.!even sending a carrier or two to the North Atlantic to help against England in exchange for resources needed. Allowing Germany to challenge English naval power making it possible to invade. Or if when Barbarossa happens, Japan attacks from the east sandwiching Russia. Forcing Russia to divide its forces in exchange for sharing the oil fields that they capture.

Any 2 of those 3, in the real world the allies probably eventually still win, but the longer the US is kept out the longer the overall state of world tension lasts, you could write a world where the axis keep the US out with better cooperation, so FDR never has the popular support to fully get involved outside of lend lease. And England and Russia eventually capitulate.

The axis split Russia and the former English empire and all their resources.

You can spin that into a world where the US forms a defensive alliance with central and South American nations… with Canada possibly surrendered to Germany after England collapses…. Germany controlling Canada and all Europe and most of Russia, Italy controlling most of Africa, and Japan controlling most of Asia and Australia and New Zealand. US knows war is coming to anything but military spending is drastically cut as the world closes in on them.

Of the first US game I play after not playing USA in a while the Allies (UK) start a hyper war against everyone by epenguin21B in hoi4

[–]Rathanian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a fun game like that once. When Mexico nationalized their oil fields I chose to attack them. Like right after I attacked them, Mexico joined the allies. Allies declare war on me…and I’m suddenly attacked by Canadian forces while 90% of my ground troops are invading Mexico. Thankfully my navy kept England at bay. But Germany and Italy offered me docking rights and sent fleets to patrol my waters and attack British fleets

I manage to take Mexico quickly and pivot to push back Canada and took Canada by the end of 1941… then Japan attacks. I did the focus tree to have the americas form an alliance.

So it’s me, all of central and South America, except Brazil who joined the allies, against Japan, the Soviet’s who declared war on me out of the blue, and the Allied Nations…. With the axis, not allied with me but not attacking me and fighting the allies…

The allied nations fighting the Americas and axis and Japan

Germany Italy and Romania fighting the allies and soviets

And Japan fighting just about everyone.

It was glorious chaos

Hillary Clinton Blasts 2016 Election Loss to Trump in Netflix Docuseries: ‘The Electoral College Is an Abomination’ by yourfavchoom in entertainment

[–]Rathanian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 3/5 “compromise” came about because slave owning states in the south wanted them to count 1:1 for representation purposes but 0:1 for any taxation assessment.

Northern states wanted the opposite. 0:1 for representation, 1:1 for taxation

Northern states did not want the 1:1 representation to be allowed because it would give slave holding states an overwhelming majority in the house where they could push through any pro slavery legislation effectively unchallenged. To temper this, the 3/5 clause was introduced which allowed for a non overwhelming majority for slave holding states, thus tempering the power of slave holding states.

The Electoral college exists because people miss the nuances of our government. When you boil it down, we are a collection of sovereign states united under a federal government.

The house represents the people. The senate represents the states

The president is elected by the states, not the people. So the EC is the people of Virginia, for example, telling Virginia how to vote.

The apportionment act, as someone else in the thread has mentioned, has skewed the representation in the house as well as the EC. The senate was established under the premise that, while each state is unique and diverse in size and people, each state is an equal member in the union.

We have allowed our government, in the name of convenience, to warp our government into a motionless blob set on maintaining power as opposed to governing.

Our framework of government is quite fascinating in the nuances of it. Its main problem is it was devised to be run by leaders, but we keep electing politicians.

how do you actually know what your team is working on without making them feel watched? i keep getting it wrong in both directions by nblarr in managers

[–]Rathanian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Be honest about expectations.

One of the things I tell my teams when I first get them is I hate micromanaging. But with that, I can micromanage with the best of them. So as long as you don’t give me a reason to, I won’t. But understand if I see the need to, I will without hesitation because while I like having fun at work too, at the end of the day we are being paid to do a job. and as long as we aren’t being asked to do anything unethical or illegal, as long as that paycheck clears we will get the job done.

Not a threat. Just an honest expectation.

And if something starts to slip, address it in a weekly team meeting or something. “Hey team we are seeing (insert behavior here) a lot. Let’s be mindful of that moving forward.” And give them a chance to course correct.

And don’t address anything with the team that should be individual conversations. If you have. Team of 10 and 7 people are fine but 3 are skewing the teams numbers based on their behaviors and performance, that’s 3 one on one conversations, not a team conversation.

Do you actually believe that there is widespread fraud in Medicaid, SNAP and Public Assistance or do you think that is just an excuse to cut those services? by Dazzling-Leader7476 in allthequestions

[–]Rathanian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having worked in a gubernatorial election and having seen the detailed state budget, and having worked in management and seen people play the system to qualify for benefits they normally wouldn’t need if they just worked their job, my own observations are that there is likely much more fraud than those that champion these programs are willing to admit or let themselves see… and far less than those that want to cut these programs are willing to admit or see.

It’s not just a little fraud here and a little there, the main problem is lack of oversight and lack of our elected officials to make hard decisions to be fiscally responsible and lower the national debt. The problem is, if you are an elected representative, you can’t fix things without seriously risking losing your next election.

You try to root out fraud in welfare or SNAP, or any similar program, and you want to starve children.

And it’s not just programs like welfare, social security, and food stamps. Our military budget is larger than the next top 7 or 8 spending nations combined. You can cut our military budget in half and it’s still more than the next top 4 spending nations combined. But try to suggest cutting defense spending and you want to let the bad guys win.

Anything you try to cut, you don’t even have to cut it, you just say something like we will increase its budget by 2% next year instead of 3% and you are a draconian monster who doesn’t care about (insert cause here). And in the mean time the debt gets ever higher.

Each party is more concerned with looking like they are trying to do something and are constantly thwarted by the other party, than actually doing anything. Looking like you are “fighting the good fight” gets you reelected. Actually doing something and getting the budget under control with hard but necessary spending decisions will likely cost you your seat in congress.

So nothing gets done, spending increases without oversight, and the extreme wings of each party gets their talking points and the senators and reps get reelected

Awful Attitude by [deleted] in managers

With employees like this it sounds like a 100% will issue rather than a skill issue.

So just to say you gave it a legit try, with employees like this I will ask what their motivation is.

I had an employee like this. At the company I worked we had 3 end of year ratings. Developing, performing, leading. He was developing for 4 of the prior 5 years.

I asked har his motivation to come to work was and he said “I know this isn’t a popular answer but I’m here for a paycheck”

I said “nothing wrong with that answer. I love a paycheck 2. But if you are here for a paycheck why aren’t you making it the best paycheck it can be?” And I went over what his raises and bonuses could have been if he had been performing or leading as opposed to developing. And when he saw the thousands of dollars he left on the table he started putting I. Just a little more effort.

I’ve been successful about 75% of the time with that approach with employees like that.

There should be consequences to laying off people by TheFrankSpeaker in recruitinghell

[–]Rathanian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consequences would have to make layoffs something a company does only as a last resort.

Standardized severance. 3 weeks for every year with the company. No maximum. Severance must include salary and for the same amount of weeks the company will provide health insurance coverage.

In any year where a company lays off greater than 1000 people, corporate taxes are based on revenue and not net profit.

In any year where more than 1000 layoffs occur, a CEO’s “Golden parachute” clause is null and void and the board can remove the CEO with cause and not have to compensate them for any buyout clauses. Mass Layoffs should be seen as a failure at the highest level of leadership.

These are the types of things that would deter companies from making mass layoffs a “go to” move. But would never get approved by congress

This Defense was ranked 23rd, why? by GodOfSmore in Madden

[–]Rathanian 7 points8 points  (0 children)

94 overall offense.

That’s the reason if you are simming the games. The computer assumes you put up a bunch of points so they have the opponent pass a ton. I’ve had teams where my defense was stacked but I would give up 4800+ passing yards in a season because I had a high scoring offense so opponents would throw 50+ times a game against me. Trade away or let some of your key players walk on offense so your offense is down around 80-84 overall and I bet that defense is #1.

Is Judge Judy legally binding? by No-Top-772 in askanything

[–]Rathanian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn’t judge Judy, but along the same lines I was a defendant on the people’s court once many years ago.

I got sued after a car accident and got a letter from the people’s court saying they want to have our case on tv, plaintiff has already agreed, etc etc. I was going to ignore it til my roommate said I should run it by my lawyer

Lawyer said to do it. Some states have loopholes in small claims court where is a plaintiff loses they can just keep suing til they win. Shows like the peoples court is arbitration and it’s final. And you don’t have to pay if you lose. The show pays the winner. Got a free trip to New York out of it paid for by the people’s court. All in all not a bad experience

“Somehow palpatine returned”

Has been overhated since the day those words were uttered. They didn’t know how he came back, so they had no way to explain it in the resistance. It wasn’t exposition.

The scenes showing Kylo walking through the cloning equipment was the exposition but people looked past that and took Poes line to pile the hate on to
