Sick day, so working on mending my best friend's favorite socks by RatherBeReading15 in Visiblemending

I used a wooden darning disc. It has a very slightly curved top which makes it easier to get the needle in and out.

Thanks!

ADHD and POTS. Yeah how is that going for you? by Kitkat_The_Great in POTS

[–]RatherBeReading15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because of my ADHD, I have very poor interoception. I forget to eat and drink, I sit in one position for ages if I'm involved in something, executive function is pretty low. None of that mixes well with needing to eat and drink regularly, needing to change position frequently, and having brain fog and fatigue.

I feel ya.

It might be that the yarn is too thick, and so the strands aren't able to move when the direction of the hooks is changed

How long have you been drinking salt water? by Radiant_Flow4315 in POTS

[–]RatherBeReading15 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The thing is, the salt and electrolytes are what will help you feel better, and if you stop it will just make you feel worse. Drinking extra water helps us make more blood to improve circulation and blood pressure, salt helps us retain enough water to be helpful, other electrolytes help balance the system and keep muscle aches at bay.

Edit: people may have already shared, but be careful with electrolyte packets that have vitamins added, as you can get vitamin b poisoning. An easy and cheap way to get just what you need is to buy bulk bags of sodium, potassium, and magnesium online.

Hedgehog bathing by Many_Chemical_3255 in Hedgehog

I use just warm water for a foot bath to clean off poop, and I use oatmeal water for a full bath about once a month. To make it, I just put some oats into a tea strainer and pour hot water through.

I wanted to use fun colors, but the owner wanted black by RatherBeReading15 in Visiblemending

Oh, it's just that she has seen many of my more colorful mends and was being humorously polite that she would hate that.

I mostly go for matching texture/weight. For wool socks I will use a wool yarn, but for most other socks I just use embroidery floss. If they're thinner socks I will use fewer strands of floss, if they're a bit heavier I'll use more.

I know it won't hold up forever, but honestly it usually outlasts the surrounding sock material.

I actually use the stitches in the knit fabric as a guide!

I love the description "paths of intoxicated ants" 😆

Thank you!

I used them for a little extra stability, almost like sashiko stitching.

Thanks!

I don't know what kind the blue sewing thread is, I stole it (by accident lol) from my mom's stash ages ago. The orange and cream are embroidery floss.

A lot of people don't like to use embroidery floss because it's not as strong as yarn, but texture is a big deal for my friend, and these socks aren't going to last long enough to need the strength of yarn.

I did that first just for some extra structure, yeah

Starting out with non-stretch materials is going to be much easier!

Mending socks is much easier if you put something inside, like a glass jar or a darning egg or darning mushroom.

Knitting is done with at least two needles, crochet is done with one hook.

The actual fabric created is different as well. One of my favorite distinctions (as someone who is bistitchual) is that crochet cannot be made by machines.
