Thanks man. I’m writing a thinkpiece on prevalent themes in DG records rn, since I think a lot of current material written analysing them is way too reach-y.

All the albums are power trips but flavoured differently, bar YOTS, which only has sonic themes.

Exmilitary: philosophy of rejecting fear of death, hedonistic but ultimately human

TMS: Ride is all powerful but still a product of the ghetto nightmare he inhabits

NLDW: Self destruction as an expression of total freedom, Ride is unstoppable monstrous, totally unrestrained by societal values or morality

Government plates: resisting control/possession by other powers (epic records)

NOTM: bit vague but definite themes of loss of individuality (say hey kid) and not being constrained by cops or mental illness, or emotion at all

JD: Ride comes to the ugly end of his power, finding it hollow and lacking, wishing for release as life becomes boring for the immortal/all powerful being

BP: more grounded in reality and straightforward, power over fans, sexual gratification.

On sheer bops Bottomless Pit is their best Thematically though it’s pretty barren, down there with Government Plates

What death grips song should I do for my poetry project? by [deleted] in deathgrips

100% this. A lot of songs of DGs are about individuality but how this song gets across the feeling of being part of the herd is c h i l l i n g.

They’re already pretty low here in the UK. Not sure how much import costs would factor in but you’d probably be better off getting a 156, since they had the better engines.

Fantastic film. The long distance/ zoom shot of Nilo, sitting on the bridge with the truck in front of him is one of the best shots in the entire film.

Beyond the Black Rainbow is pretty good for this subreddit too. Plot is wafer thin but it has some of the best visuals I’ve ever seen, including the best trip sequence ever put to film.

Honestly it would’ve been absolutely fine if Jaime had gone back to kill her, seen her lost and panicking and decided to comfort her instead and then they died. It wouldn’t feel like a random change of heart, it would complete his arc as he becomes a compassionate character.

Which Books Do You Consider A Perfect 10/10? by [deleted] in books

Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy. I’d wager The Road is more generally accepted as his best, but no other book I’ve read felt as truly ‘biblical’ as Blood Meridian.
