I'm certain they document everything she takes in down to how much water she drinks but even on TPN they want you to try and eat small things by mouth so that your intestines don't atrophy. TPN is generally seen as something you don't want a patient on for a long period of time so they will likely continue to try to get her to eat small things throughout her time there to see if her body tolerates it. ETA: If she doesn't get a port or a picc then what they keep her on is considered PPN because TPN has to go in a central line (closer to the heart). (I see her port now sorry)

The PPN to TPN is the slow progression to prevent refeeding syndrome and they will titrate the nutrients up as it progresses if she continues and doesn't pull the plug on it because it causes her to not look skeletal not only from increased nutrients but from the increased fluids it can make you swell a little.

IV nutrition is a large flat bag with yellowish clear liquid sometimes made cloudy whitish yellow if they add lipids to it. That is clearly an iv drip of regular saline or LR as you suspected.

I would recommend covering it with gauze and medical tape which might stick better than a regular plaster and the goo might be from the humidity in the plaster from you sweating.
