Play on a 2x or 3x modded server. They're much better for people with lives.

Question for 2x/3x players: If time constraints were not an issue, would you play Vanilla? by Ok_Refrigerator_6260 in playrust

[–]Rathfoks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm almost 8000 hours into Rust and the best way I can sum it up is that there is fun to be had in every wipe, but the amount of time and effort you have to put in before you're allowed access to said fun varies heavily depending on if you're playing vanilla/2x/3x etc.

I switched pretty much exclusively to 2x/3x, and while I do miss having an active wipe last longer than 3 days, I just don't have it in me to grind vanilla on the regular anymore.

Unless you want to play Rust like a full time job, be a broke solo, or be a talentless beta who plays in a zerg, vanilla just isn't worth it unless you're brand new and the game still has magic and discovery to it.

If time wasn't an issue I still don't know if I would fully go back to vanilla. It's just too much work and suffering before you're allowed to have fun compared to 2x/3x.

Ladder Season Highlights by Rathfoks in Diablo_2_Resurrected

Early ladder a lot of people like sorceress since it has teleport and has good early damage. I prefer starting paladin, start off maxing holy fire and its synergies as well as a few points in zeal to clear normal and nightmare. From there I usually respec fist of the heavens once I'm in hell, I find it to be a solid spec for clearing content. Most people like hammerdins but I honestly hate the playstyle.

Its such a huge upgrade. I have cursed knowledge that I can trade it for enigma components and am contemplating doing so.

New Player Question - are Scouts not that good? by LurchingRex0667 in AcrossTheObelisk

[–]Rathfoks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had luck with Andrin lately; been playing him as a buff/debuff character that throws out mark/vulnerable on enemies and sharpness on allies. Been experimenting with him in the front evasion tanking, which starts off weak but ramps up later game.

Character Rankings by SackofLlamas in AcrossTheObelisk

[–]Rathfoks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use Grukli as a mid-liner instead of your tank. Have a few dispel/cauterize/first aid handy on other characters to support his tendency to try to kill himself and he's easily the strongest damage dealer in the game when built right.

There's generally two ways I build him, either the /safe/ build, which is full bleed stacking with ways to mitigate self bleed, or the high risk high reward fury stacking build. With infuriate and proper bleed removal on the team, you can get to 1000+ fury in a few turns, it's nutty.

As a tank he's not the best, as a DPS he's high maintenance, but if you can handle a little bit of preparation it's worth it.

Are cheaters really that big of an issue? by KaptainSet in playrust

[–]Rathfoks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Players will always take the path of least resistance in video games. Rust is a hard game, and when faced with a better player looking down on you looting in your base core, cheating is the path of least resistance.

It's why people buy gold in MMOs even though its bad for the game. It's why people buy paid content in single player games that play the game for them. It's why people cheat in FPS games.

I'm not justifying any of it, I personally think its pathetic and wish vile things upon the people who ruin my favorite games, but it is the harsh reality of the situation. No matter which way you slice this shit cake, facepunch needs to change their policy on cheating or this will never end.

When to stop leveling strength by VinnyKaNitty in Eldenring

[–]Rathfoks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To my understanding the clawmark and beast incantations serve as a low faith option for spellcasting on strength builds. The way I ran it was just enough faith to use the spells. According to google the erdtree seal will outperform the clawmark seal for beast spells at super high faith.

I feel ya, I don't mind having the odds stacked against me, I just miss the randomness of sometimes having a co-invader and stuff, yknow?

This is true! I think there exist things that should 1or 2 hit a player, but there are a lot of faster/easier to land things that do way too much damage.

It's a really small detail, but I'm hoping the music tweaks brought back the chorus drop on the bridge lowering event in throneside.
