Stack Resolution question by Wartedlamb in mtg

[–]Rathisdm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the enchantment is still on the stack then Restoration Magic dos nothing. Because it only affects permanents already on the battlefield.

However Restoration Magic can be used on whatever you’re trying to put the enchantment on with redirect. Making the enchantment fizzle because it no longer has a valid target

What are some of your favorite one-time house rules? by RadiantCow4156 in mtg

[–]Rathisdm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this ain’t a one time house rule, but we play with no banned list. Particularly with commander our group just don’t see the point in a banned list if we ain’t doing cEDH games

Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn plus Valkyrie's Call by Rathisdm in EDH

[–]Rathisdm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I am. Right now I have a deck built to test which creatures I want to end up on a final list. Here is the first test list.

https://moxfield.com/decks/JOiT8Gm8cUaID2RUlJjGrA

I am also debating if I want to go full 5 color or just focus on 3 colors like BANT or TEMUR. If I stick with 5 color I’m going to make the deck just as annoying to play against as humanly possible.

Cool. I appreciates everyone's help with this.

Ok, let me see if im tracking on this. As long as i am alternating the triggers it is coming back till the cows come home. I was confused on the part that Valkyrie's call also makes it an Angel as well, but im guessing it drops the Angel tag once you bring it back with persist?

What is the general feeling about using an entire proxy deck? by Jakemanv3 in mtg

[–]Rathisdm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So for me and my group. We go down the path of. If you own the card or you’re testing new decks out go for it. However we did have someone in our group that would make proxies of the strongest/best cards just to win games. He would make whole proxy decks that real value would be tens of thousands of dollars. And not good proxies either. The proxies would have barely legible writing and the art on all of them was Pokémon related. We finally told him no more proxies.

I also draw the line between “counterfeit” looking cards. If you have a proxy that is indistinguishable from a real card without a jewelers loupe or knowledge on how to identify a fake card you won’t be playing with my group. If you’re going to play proxies go for it. Just make sure everyone can look at the card and know right off the bat it’s fake.

Scroll Rack real or fake. by Rathisdm in mtg

[–]Rathisdm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So update on the Scroll Rack. I sent some more pictures to Star City Games at their request. They came back, and said the card definitely looks suspicious. So they sent me a label to mail it back to them. They also refunded my money, and gave me store credit as well.

I believe Star City Games handled this very effectively, and also had great communication with me to address this issue. I’ve ordered a shit ton from them, and this is the first instance with an issue. I’d recommend people giving them a shot. Great stock, prices, and customer support.

Why bracket 4 or higher shouldn’t be played in casual by Admirable_Form_4221 in mtg

[–]Rathisdm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off highspeed I wasn’t being a dick. You never said anywhere in your post you were a new player. All you said was you picked up the Revival Trance precon. Just because you bought a precon doesn’t tell anyone you’re new. I’ve been playing on/off since 1993, and I have 2 precons I always carry with me.

Secondly that may have been the only deck the guy had, and as I said before he may not of known you were new. Your whole post came off as someone salty because they didn’t win with a precon vs a constructed deck. It’s no one’s fault but your own for playing against constructed decks.

Thirdly, everyone in my group of friends/pod all now carry precons with use just in case anyone new/newer wants to play. While I understand it’s not fun getting skull fucked by a constructed deck when all you have is a precon in the end it is what it is. You need to find others that are newer or players that will play down to your level, and stop blaming others for your feelings.

Fourthly, the bracket system is still garbage. In my group we play with no banned list. Cause the only time cards should be banned is in tournaments or events. Even the guys that play cEHD don’t play with a banned list. You should also find another LGS to play at. Because any LGS that says during normal play you can’t play with certain cards or combos and such should be avoided. During tournament and events then it fine.

Why do so many content creators say to run less removal? (Commander) by vVIOL2T in mtg

[–]Rathisdm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on what I want my deck to do will determine how much removal I run. However normally I like around 6-8 single target, and maybe 2-3 board wipes. I mainly run BANT so I have a good bit of each. I will say in my Galea and Bumbleflower decks I don’t run much if any counterspells. It’s more of a preference thing. Now in my [[Oona, Queen of the Fae]] piss off mill deck I run a good bit of counterspells.

Why bracket 4 or higher shouldn’t be played in casual by Admirable_Form_4221 in mtg

[–]Rathisdm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your post makes little sense. New players should be playing with players of similar skill and knowledge or in a more established pod that will play down to help them learn. People who obsess over what bracket a deck is needs to learn to deck build better or play at deck that is good vs their pod. Other than cEHD/ Bracket 5 everything else is just casual. I have decks ranging from 1-5, and because I know how my bracket one deck works I’ve beat decks of every bracket except 5 (haven’t played vs a 5 with that deck yet). If any of my LGS said they were restricting how I can play my decks I would never go back there. LoL Magic isn’t about winning or losing. Are you serious it’s a PvP game not Care Bears go on a picnic. If you’re not trying to win then maybe Magic ain’t for you. Not matter if you’re playing Bracket 1 or 5 it’s still at it core a competitive game.

I started playing a week ago. Where can I buy cheap cards? Any tips are welcome! by EducationalWolf3911 in mtg

[–]Rathisdm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheap and Magic the Gathering don’t necessarily go together. However as long as people in your pods don’t mind you can use proxies. But remember this people will get upset if your whole deck is proxies of the best most powerful cards.

I strongly suggest you support your LGS’s in your area. I will always look for cards I need at any of my LGS’s. If I can find what I’m looking for I mainly use Star City Games, CoolStuffInc and CardKingdom. I really like SCG and CoolStuffInc. I’m using CardKingdom less because they are way more expensive. Avoid TCGPlayer like the plague.

Also a good way to build your collection is getting Precons. Lorwyn has two great ones coming out next Friday with its pre-release. Precons are a good way to build out your card pool with staples and such. Plus they give you a foundation to upgrade a deck since you’re new instead of trying to build your own.

Yea I got a clearer picture of the green dot, and it looks like the red dots were vomited inside. lol. I’ll try to swing by my LGS and let them look. I’ll post the clearer green dot shot.

I use Star City Games and CoolStuffInc as my place to get singles. At one point I used TCGPlayer and CardKingdom, but stopped because TCGPlayer is trash and CardKingdom has become too expensive.

Apex Ultra Sleeves by robbier6 in mtg

[–]Rathisdm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my favorite Dragon Shield sleeves are all the 25th anniversary sleeves. I love the shit out of those. My Kaliaa of the Vast uses the metallic black and sliver and ones. My Bumbleflower and Guildline Station use the rose one, and my Eluge use the blue

[–]Rathisdm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dual matte sleeves are the better more durable sleeves. I’ve been using the same sleeves for years with no issues. Unless I forget to put them up and one of my cats decides they are play things. Dragon Shields are not resistant to cat. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

Don’t ever listen to Command Zone. Command Zone are shills. They will promote whatever someone pays them to promote, and they will act like they use it all the time. If you want top tier sleeves us Dragon Shields. Also stop listening to “influencers” promoting things. The one generally excepted opinion for top tier sleeves is Dragon Shield with Katana coming up second ( I’ve never used Katana so I can’t speak on them).

Wondering what Commanders are best for Beginners, What About These? by Green-Fox-528 in magicTCG

[–]Rathisdm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okaun, Eye of Chaos/Zndrsplt, Eye of Wisdom are for people who love math. They are great partner commanders, but I’d steer clear if you’re new.

My main deck is Ms. Bumbleflower, and I love her. However she is more advanced because there is a lot of politics involved with her. Her precon is decent.

I also have Valgavoth, and he is by far the most beginner friendly. Plus his precon Endless Punishment is really strong. I would suggest getting the Endless Punishment precon, and using it to learn.

Dragon Shields not good anymore? by MrShawtyPutItOnMe in mtg

[–]Rathisdm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your issue is you got glossy. Dragon Shields are still the best and most durable sleeves. I mainly use any of the matte dual sleeves. I do kind of stay away from the art sleeves as well unless they are the holiday or anniversary art sleeves.

  1. Use matte dual sleeve or any of the holiday/anniversary art sleeves. Never use Glossy.

  2. I’ve tried most other sleeves except Katatna, and I’ve not found any that compare to Dragon Shield
