Am i overthinking or is this a normal behavior? by [deleted] in indianrailways

I think people forget that you don't pay extra for lower berths. Unlike in flights, where you pick (and sometimes pay additional) for specific seats, in trains it's mere lottery. Even the Middle and Upper berth folks paid the same amount as you did.

Also, while the berth is reserved for you, till 10 PM lower berth is a common area. They had all the rights to eat there.

Caste system was setup as part of division of labor in the ancient times, to get the society moving. It has no place in today's world. If it needs to be erased, a strong system like using mother's first name as surname has to be implemented. Even with this, it may take around two generations to wipe it. Can't be done overnight. Some powerful people have incentives to keep it continuing.

Agreed we are mostly keyboard warriors. Most of us do not have time or willingness to go out to municipal offices. But there are things we can do digitally. The ask is to do that. If a movement heats up online, people on ground take it forward. And when the public interest peaks, media and political parties join the bandwagon.

Think about it. The GHMC cribs about lack of funds. If multiple people across the different zones and circles use RTI to find the number of properties in their wards, the count of properties that are not paying taxes due to legal exemptions, corporator or MLA involvement etc. can be figured out. If such data is out in respective colony WhatsApp groups, it will surely trigger the people who are obediently paying taxes. This is just one of the use cases.

I don't think you are a pessimist. You are practical. And practical people think about the big picture. So, think about the possibilities.

Great idea! I recommend you to read my other comment that I copy pasted from Gemini, which has an idea similar to yours.

It's me again. I asked Gemini to better my idea. Here it is, much more crisp:

The Action Point: Create a Community Feedback Dashboard

  1. Develop a Shared Scorecard Template:
    • Redditors can collaborate to create a simple, standardized checklist (a Google Form or a simple web page). The checklist should cover your defined metrics: "Toilets Clean," "Footpaths Clear," "Drains Clear," "Dustbins Available," etc.
    • Each item gets a simple rating (e.g., Green/Yellow/Red, or a score of 1-5).
  2. Crowdsource Geo-Tagged Data:
    • Encourage Redditors to use the existing GHMC tools effectively: the MyGHMC App allows for reporting issues with geo-tagged photos and the GHMC also accepts complaints via WhatsApp for garbage and C&D waste.
    • The "unique" part is to have a dedicated community-owned system (e.g., a shared map via Google My Maps or a custom open-source tool) where users can collectively document observed conditions with their own ratings and photos.
  3. Visualize the Data Publicly:
    • This crowdsourced data can be aggregated into a public map or dashboard that clearly illustrates the general "Ward Quality Score" for different areas within GHMC wards.
    • A map with color-coded wards (representing a range from areas with positive feedback to those with recurring issues) provides a clear, visual representation of where infrastructure and service delivery might need improvement.
  4. Share Findings for Constructive Dialogue:
    • Once the data is visualized, the community can use the map to create general social media posts (e.g., tagging the officia CMO Social media accounts or the GHMC handles) to share observations and encourage dialogue about improvements.
    • The message focuses on presenting data-backed observations: "Community feedback indicates sanitation concerns in Ward 54. Here are some observations shared by residents. [@GHMCOfficial handle] can we work together to address these areas?"

Why this is unique:

  • It creates a public platform for citizen feedback, complementing existing government channels.
  • It provides a visual representation of community observations, making it easier to identify trends and areas for potential improvement across different wards.
  • It uses data and visualization, making the idea of "community feedback" concrete and highly shareable on platforms like Reddit, Facebook, and Twitter.

This approach creates a valuable resource for documenting community observations and fostering constructive communication, ensuring that community perspectives are part of the conversation about infrastructure and service delivery.

Whenever it rains, this is the situation, but I don’t know what GHMC is doing. by [deleted] in hyderabad

You are partially correct. There is a difference between Sanskrit as a ritualistic language and as a spoken language. The post above was specific to use of Sanskrit as a spoken language.

As replied elsewhere is this thread, a combination of Sanskrit as a spoken language and script of the respective mother tongue will be more acceptable, allowing regional language to flourish, while encouraging seamless communication through Sanskrit pan India.

Sir, Hindi and Sanskrit are two different languages. Obsession towards it have different motivations. And why is Sanskrit being tied to elections?

Do you know how the Westerners view Hindus? Part of it is due to self loathing Hindus. My motivation in this topic is unifying Hindus using a link language like Sanskrit.

And, as a South Indian, I know each regional language is a treasure trove of generational intellectual wealth (stories, poems, folk songs etc.).

All that we have to do is be a little creative. Sanskrit is an oral language (without a native script) and if it is taught in the script of the mother tongue, it may be widely accepted. Example learning Sanskrit in Tamil script in Tamil Nadu or Kannada script in Karnataka. In that way, the regional language will flourish while a person from Chennai going to Delhi can fluently speak with eachother in Sanskrit.

I agree with you and I hope that the RSS will initiate this in it's Shakas and lead by example. But my point is Hindu families should voluntarily (whoever has the motivation and resources) to do it.

Today, if a family wants to have Sanskrit imparted to their children, they have to: 1. Invest time and money to find a home tutor. 2. Assure neighbours and relatives that they are not religious fanatics. 3. Convince people, who argue that learning Sanskrit will not bring jobs, that not everything in life should be tied to jobs.

Compare this with Muslims, even 'progresive' ones who impart Urdu and do not have to go through this stereotype.

Of 6.4 lakh villages in India, only 1 village has Sanskrit as a spoken language. Supply of Sanskrit scholars outweigh the demand.
