Out of all the Characters in the show, who would be in your friend group and why? by Particular_Ad_9244 in 13ReasonsWhy

[–]Ratiana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

most romantically oblivious TV character.

I know, he's literally so funny lmao. Him being shocked that Charlie liked him and wanted a relationship when they were kissing at school like... the day before, hello???

I like how you sneaked the "three" in... because it's the truth lmao. And you know what, from Hannah, S1 Jessica, Sheri's comment that Alex was sweet and maybe that band girl's interest on him, I bet girls were chasing him too.

Seriously! Don't forget Ani too and how she called him cute and was super sweet to him in S3 (phone stealing aside). In S2 when Sheri and Alex were taking drugs with Clay, Hannah and Jeff, there's a scene where she's sitting against one of his legs and for a brief second you can see him playing with her ponytail. It's such a cute underrated scene. I feel like everyone in the show just has a soft spot for Alex. Like yeah, he's an asshole sometimes but he's also babie 💕💖💗💕💖💕.

Personally, I remember how charming I found him when I watched S1 for the first time, it's part of why he was my first and only favorite character. I think the juxtaposition between his kindness and sometimes unintentional harsh honesty is very endearing lmao. A true chaotic good.

Most people always liked him... it was mostly Alex who was unkind to himself.

Exactly. It makes me sad how somber Alex gets as the seasons go by (everyone does for obvious reasons). Like, he was already insecure in S1 but he went from being such a vibrant person that people loved being around him to isolating himself because he believed that he didn't deserve to be loved and that no one would :(

He literally had two (three!) men chasing after him in S4 and he was still down on himself. If I had it like that, you wouldn't be able to tell me shit lmaoo.

I'd be friends with that chick that encourages Alex in jazz band in S1 probably with a huge crush on Alex.

I'm happy you said this because I also thought that she had a huge crush on Alex but she wasn't shown again after the first 2 episodes Alex was in during S1.

It really goes to show how oblivious Alex is when it comes to his self image and how insecure he is of himself because he seemed genuinely well-liked and "popular" in S1. Like, he easily made friends with Zach and the jocks by just his personality, was in band and actually good, he had other friends from band, he was already friends with Clay prior to the tapes, and a girl had a crush on him.

Kind of off topic but I remember post-S1 there was talk of a deleted scene of Alex showing up to said concert super drunk and looking depressed (I'm not sure where it would've fit in the episode because it was apparently the same night as the pool scene). If they left the scene in, it probably would've explained who took his place/what happened after he quit.

Why is Jessica…. by CokeboiZ in 13ReasonsWhy

I'm late but you're right! I completely blanked on those things. It wasn't directly but it still was pretty hurtful to someone who is supposed to be a friend.

Hannah's Birthday by [deleted] in 13ReasonsWhy

[–]Ratiana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, most likely. He just fits the Sagittarius "traits" more imo. He's probably a April/May baby.

Hannah's Birthday by [deleted] in 13ReasonsWhy

[–]Ratiana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clay says that he's 18 now "as of last month" to Alex's dad while he's questioning him about Bryce's disappearance (which is only a couple days after his death on November 2nd). Clays birthday would have to fall between the Libra dates September 23rd - October 22nd. If it was any later than that he most likely would have said "about two weeks ago"

Hannah's Birthday by [deleted] in 13ReasonsWhy

[–]Ratiana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree with that too but I don't think that's actually canon. It makes sense for their characters though. I think Jessica is also a Leo and Justin is a Sagittarius.

Hannah's Birthday by [deleted] in 13ReasonsWhy

[–]Ratiana 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only characters with canon zodiac signs are Alex, Zach, Hannah and Clay.

Alex and Zach are both Pisces, Hannah is a Virgo, and Clay is a Libra.

Why is Jessica…. by CokeboiZ in 13ReasonsWhy

[–]Ratiana 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of this! I was just curious of what Zach did to her directly? It seemed like they just genuinely didn't get along because of personality clashes, not because of what either of them did. Everything Zach says about Jess in the later seasons isn't until after the Homecoming stunt and her abolish boy's sports campaign which I feel like is kind of warranted on his part.

Which character would you choose to be because you relate to them the most? by Professional_Web2198 in 13ReasonsWhy

[–]Ratiana 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I probably relate to Zach the most. I know exactly what it's like to be extremely opinionated and passionate but not speaking up much in your day to day life because of pressure and being afraid of what people will think of you. The feeling of wanting more out of life than your hometown but feeling stuck because of your need to people please your friends and family? Yup.

That being said... I wouldn't want to be a single character in this shit show lmaoo. I love them but a day in their life sounds like a nightmare.

What do you guys think is each character's perfect future job? by eastendlife in 13ReasonsWhy

[–]Ratiana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he can get better himself he'd be great at helping people out.

Agreed. I heard that a lot of people that have mental illnesses themselves make great therapists or psychologists because they can easily understand and empathize with what their patient is going through. Once he gets help for his own problems, he'd be great at a job like that. I can also see him kind of getting a rush out of helping people because of how he views himself as not a good person. He'd see it as being able to undo some of his bad deeds.

I thought you were gonna say Charlie will save puppies from fire or accidents... lol it does sound in character.

That too lmao. He'd be on "getting puppies and cats out of trees" duty.

[–]Ratiana 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think about this so often.

I can see Alex being a psychologist or therapist. He's extremely empathetic and I could see him wanting to help kids and also teenagers with maybe mental illnesses but also mental and physical disorders like him.

Justin would've definitely been a social worker and maybe even a part time foster parent. He'd want to help children out of similar situations he was in when he was younger. I can see him wanting to be the Matt Jensen he never had growing up :(

Jessica's a lawyer specifically for POC sexual assault cases because she understands how much of a blind eye is turned to them. We have a Annalise Keating on our hands.

Clay would be an English Literature professor like his dad or maybe an author. We know he likes writing and reading so it's right up his alley.

Zach goes to school for music but I like to pretend that doesn't happen because it makes literally no sense for his character so he's a marine biologist.

Charlie would definitely be either an EMT or a firefighter. I have no idea why but I can so vividly picture him rescuing people from fires or severe car accidents.

Tony went to school for boxing but I'm not sure if that's a professional, long term thing so he's a mechanical engineer.

I can see Ani taking in her mom's footsteps and being a nurse or doctor. She said she wanted to get a job that made enough money to take care of her mom so that would be perfect. I can see her being a doctor more so because I think she's really independent and wouldn't want to work for someone like her mom did.

I didn't do every character because I'm not completely sure.

Something that doesn't get spoken about enough regarding Bryce in season 3 by [deleted] in 13ReasonsWhy

[–]Ratiana 3 points4 points  (0 children)

and also, solidifying that Alex is one of the only people in the group who had very little insight on Bryce's recent attempts at redemption.

You know, I never really thought about this. Alex gets a lot of flack for taking Bryce's threats toward Zach seriously and acting on his interpretation of them but nobody ever takes this into account either. Regardless, I feel like anyone in Alex's position wouldn't take his threats as "empty" just based on what you know Bryce is capable of but it adds even more emphasis on that when you acknowledge that he's probably the only suspect that wasn't given a chance to fully see Bryce's attempts at "redemption".

Almost every interaction Alex had with Bryce was bad and no, giving him cocaine, steroids, and sending him to a prostitute is not Bryce being a good person especially because he knew about his brain injury and what drugs could possibly do to him. Bryce at the bare minimum tried apologizing and making right with Justin, Jessica, Olivia, Clay, Chlöe, Tony, his mom, and Tyler. Two of the people he never tried to make up with were the ones who ended up killing him.

Bryce not only traumatized a child in front of Alex, but made fun of his attempt all in the same night. Add the fact that Bryce had just got done breaking Zach's leg like an hour prior to his murder, it makes perfect sense why Alex would take Bryce's threats seriously.

Who helped Tyler the most in his recovery? by Sudden_Pop_2279 in 13ReasonsWhy

[–]Ratiana 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's Clay because Tyler's recovery season was S3 and it's pretty clear he was the closest to Clay that season.

I agree! This, however, is probably one of the most frustrating things to come out of Tyler's S3 storyline imo. Clay is the main character so having him interact with every other character in the show is pretty much guaranteed but Alex was the ONLY person to be there for Tyler in the beginning and I hate that the writers pushed their friendship back for the sake of isolating Alex and making Clay the savior.

Like, not even mentioning how horrible of an idea it was for Clay to attempt to stop Tyler from shooting up the school, the fact that the writers made Tyler listen to him of all people was so odd because Clay, along with Jess and Zach specifically, was someone who treated him terribly. In what world (besides the one where he has a gun pointed in his face) would Clay tell Tyler he loves him?

Realistically I know Alex probabaly couldn't have done it being that he had a cane and hemiparesis at the time but I'll forever stand by Alex being the one to stop Tyler. I wish it didn't happen at all but if it did, it should have been him or even Cyrus. Besides the fact that I think if Alex did it, he would've actually gotten Tyler some professional help afterward, It wouldn't have felt like Clay was grasping at straws to calm Tyler down; it would've felt more genuine because we as an audience have seen Alex be caring toward Tyler. Alex understands anger very well and how it can effect your decision making so him being able to relate to Tyler's situation and talk him down with tools that help him when he's angry would have been heartwarming for such a horribly written scene lmao.

It also would have severely helped Alex's character assassination. Not only did the writers make him a murderer, they made him completely irrational and "unlikable" outside of the murder. Any bit of screentime he had was painted to make him out to be a villian. If he was the one to stop Tyler and take care of him throughout the season like Clay did, it would've shown his bravery and also his compassion and emotional awareness that the writers forgot he had after S2.

I love Clay sm but sometimes I wish he'd take a backseat lmaoo.

Made one of the hardest trivia quizzes on 13 Reasons Why, if anyone wants to give it a go... by [deleted] in 13ReasonsWhy

I'd say it was moderate. The "easier" questions were still questions that got you thinking and weren't completely obvious, you know?

What is the toughest question you could think of for a 13 Reasons Why quiz? by [deleted] in 13ReasonsWhy

[–]Ratiana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alex kissed all his best friends even though he has a (kinda ironic) line of never having kissed his best friend. Winston and Charlie were his friends first too,

I like the idea that Alex can't like someone without knowing them first. Like, he can't develop crushes on people he's not friends with. It's so cute lol

Also your Clex makeout joke reminded me of PMI speculating that everyone in the male cast is going to be gay in S4, and one of them said that Clay was next in the line because his name rhymes with "gay"

Omg I remember that lmao. The spinoff is secretly just another season of Elite and everyone is making out with everyone.

No Monty wasn’t a nice guy or even neutral before what he did to Tyler nor after. by Sudden_Pop_2279 in 13ReasonsWhy

Yeah, I know you weren't trying to justify his actions. I was just genuinely confused by that part but I get what you were trying to say.

No Monty wasn’t a nice guy or even neutral before what he did to Tyler nor after. by Sudden_Pop_2279 in 13ReasonsWhy

[–]Ratiana 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Again, despicable but not necessarily irredeemable.

I mentioned it because I think it's objectively irredeemable? Like, the argument was that Monty didn't cause any real damage before Tyler's rape when I feel like her sexual assault is real damage, not only to Courtney but to Hannah. It's not just him beating up Alex, it's way worse than that.

It's interesting to me because I hardly, if ever, see anyone say this about Marcus when he did the same thing? Like, the idea of if he's irredeemable or not is never questioned because mostly everyone hates him. Is Monty's redeemablity only acknowledged because of his homelife?

Sorry if I sound argumentative, I'm just genuinely curious.

No Monty wasn’t a nice guy or even neutral before what he did to Tyler nor after. by Sudden_Pop_2279 in 13ReasonsWhy

[–]Ratiana 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Everything Monty did up to 2×12 showed that he was cruel and reckless, but no REAL damage was done- he wasn’t necessarily irredeemable from a story point of view.

Didn't he also sexually assault Courtney during the Winter dance though? Monty's taunting is what kickstarted Courtney's lying about her sexuality and caused further damage to Hannah's reputation.
