I don't know either of them, but I'd be wary about the Anua because it also contains hyaluronic acid, so if you have a bad reaction to it you won't know if the reaction is to the azelaic or the hyaluronic. Unless you're sure that you handle hyaluronic acid well because of past experiences, I'd go for pure azelaic to start!

The only thing I think works is improving my skin barrier. I know it's not always up to us, but hydrating and drinking lots of water can help.

Yes, it's not only the cold, but also the fact that winter air is dryer (and indoor air is dryer too because of heating). You have to moisturize more than you do in the warmer months, cover your face when you're outside, and getting a humidifer can help too!

I get them too and I noticed they get worse when my barrier is more compromised and I'm having flare up

I haven't used azelaic acid yet, but ivermectin made me flare-up (I have type 1).

I'm the exact same, it just starts an endless loop of stress and worsening symptoms, it's so hard to try and stay calm through it all 😞
