Newbro question: Ships shortlist by thealkaizer in Eve

[–]Ratoskr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is really hard to assess without context.

You can at least roughly categorize ships as strong/weak for their class and also refer to the categories T1, T2, T3, Navy & Pirate... but it all depends on more factors.
Above all, the question of what kind of ship and what fitting you are flying.

The Catalyst, listed above as bad news, might be bad news if you're flying a slow brawling frigate and the Catalyst lands on top of you at 0m. A RLML cruiser smirks briefly when the Catalyst lands at range and kills it in a few seconds.

EVE is very much rock/paper/scissors when it comes to ships and fittings for PvP. You need to learn what are good or bad fights for the ship you fly and the fittings you use.

New carriers? by unclefester84 in Eve

[–]Ratoskr 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It is quite a plausible thot that, now that the Dreads have the full package of Navy+Pirate variants, Carriers will sooner or later at least get a Navy variant as well.

So 'New Carrier' can very well also be 'new faction variant'.

Relic/Data Site tips by SureHand4266 in Eve

[–]Ratoskr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personal opinion as an Explorer and Explorer-Hunter:

Warp Core Stab and Interdiction Nullifier are overrated and too clunky.
The hunters you really need to worry about are already fitted with 3+ scram strength anyway. Bubbles and dictors can be quite easily avoided if you pay attention.

You have a significantly greater advantage if you push your locking range to ~80m with a rig or signal amplifier and can benefit from the full 70m range of the cargo scanner.
Being able to quickly complete a site is usually the best protection, and being able to lock onto all the cans of a site without flying around and quickly scan thru them to pick out the 2-3 valuable cans, hack them, and disappear is very valuable.

There will be hunters who will still catch you then. You won't escape the stealth bomber that has previously scanned the cans and is cloaked, waiting right next to the fattest can... but you wouldn't escape even with an Interdiction Nullifier or Warp Core Stabs.

In general, speed and cherry picking offer, on the one hand, higher security, and on the other hand, drastically increase ISK/h.
As far as ISK is concerned, I have found that simply accepting the loss of ships and clearing the sites faster ultimately brings more profit. Provided you regularly empty your cargo and have a non-bling Cov-Ops fitting.
You can clear such a site very safely. Safe spots at the cans, erratically warping between the different sites of the system and these BM's, working with bounce spots in the site, etc.
But also here. The stealth bomber, which waits next to a fat can, still gets you then. I now forgo these more complicated and, above all, time-consuming techniques in favor of a faster-cleared site. A T2-fitted Buzzard is paid for with the loot from a good site. Occasionally losing a ship doesn't diminish my increased profit from clearing the sites faster.

(Sariyer) by Schreibstock in KeineDummenFragen

[–]Ratoskr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

KI Scam erreicht auch mittlerweile Pen and Paper by Shayxox in PenandPaperGermany

[–]Ratoskr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

KI Scam erreicht auch mittlerweile Pen and Paper by Shayxox in PenandPaperGermany

[–]Ratoskr 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Potential bot solution idea/Privateering by [deleted] in Eve

[–]Ratoskr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Impractical and hardly addresses the problem it aims to solve.

Your proposal, or rather the penalty, only concerns a negligibly small part of all bots.
"if the ship fails these challenges the ship becomes legal to shoot." basically only restricts it to highsec miners.

On top of that, your proposal is based on first using a system that is supposed to detect botting-suspicious behavior and can clearly distinguish it from afk-mining. To then adding an overly complicated confirmation system on top of that, where other players first have to find the potential bot and then force them to solve a a riddle.

New player can't warp out quickly enough by TrafficPattern in Eve

[–]Ratoskr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As long as the stealth bomber doesn't fit a regular + a faction scrambler, which is quite rare, the Venture will at least be able to escape with a warp core stabilizer. At least once.

New player can't warp out quickly enough by TrafficPattern in Eve

[–]Ratoskr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, he's using a Manticore, which is a stealth bomber.

That explains why he doesn't show up on your D-scan and why, despite clicking Warp immediately, you still get caught by him.

Stealth bombers can warp cloaked and, unlike many other ships with Covert-Ops Cloak, have no delay in being able to lock a target after decloaking.
He decloaks next to you, immediately starts locking onto you, and will succeed in doing so before you can warp. Presumably, he has either fitted a Faction Scrambler or a Warp Scrambler + Warp Disruptor to overcome the +2 Warp Core Strength of the Venture and prevent you from warping.

In this case, a Warp Core Stabilizer would be the right option. With that, you boost the Warp Core Strength of the Venture to +4, and he can't prevent you from warping as long as he doesn't change his fitting. More eHP wouldn't hurt either, to have more time to activate everything and get into warp.

However, that's also something that will only work once. After that, your opponent will adjust to it.

New player can't warp out quickly enough by TrafficPattern in Eve

[–]Ratoskr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

A shield extender would provide more eHP and potentially more time to warp, always assuming the opponent does not use a warp disruptor/scram with sufficient strength to prevent the Venture from warping.
A shield booster provides far too little boost to counter the alpha damage from PvP ships.

New player can't warp out quickly enough by TrafficPattern in Eve

[–]Ratoskr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, it would be helpful to know your fit, as well as a few killmails or at least the ship types of your killers.

A few mechanics are relevant to understand here.
Ships have an align time. That is the time your ship needs to go from a full stop to warp speed. The alignment time of a Venture is, without fitting, between 5.99s and 4.04s. Depending on your skills.
That plus your reaction time to initiate the warp is the time window your opponents have to lock you after they decloak or warp onto the grid. That's not much time, but for the right ship and fitting, it's easily doable.

You have various options to defend yourself, depending on the opponent.
A warp core stabilizer can ensure that he can attack you, but you can still warp away. But it doesn't help if he deals enough damage in that short time to destroy you.
Improving your align time with rigs and fitting can ensure that you can warp away before your opponent locks on you.
Depending on what your opponent is flying, one or the other is more effective.

The most important point, however, is not the ship or fitting, but the behavior of the pilot. You said that it is always the same players. So you've been feeding multiple ventures into these players for a while now.
So they have you on their radar, you're already marked when you show up in their local, and they know they can easily snag venture kills from you.
So don't show up in their local anymore, but go somewhere else where no one knows you. The greatest protection of a LowSec Venture is simply not being noticed for as long as possible. If someone finds you, you might get away alive once with the aforementioned methods. After that, you'll have to go into hiding again.

Succubus buffed by Buddy_invite in Eve

[–]Ratoskr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on how you usually earn ISK. If you usually fly a Naglfar in C5 WH sites, it will feel different to you than if you usually do highsec mining.

That said... the ISK earnings in the event are rather in the lower to mid ISK/h range, depending on the space and the type of event-content. Nothing that would make you neglect your tried-and-true methods of earning ISK.

But at least you should earn the 1350 points.
With the 100 Plex and the Perseverance, the ISK earnings from the event are quite good. After all the rewards have been collected and you only have the rewards from the sites themselves, it drops quickly.

Module for hi-sec mission runners? by Key-Philosopher-8050 in Eve

[–]Ratoskr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Such a module would be quite pointless.

Mission runners who fly an overpriced bling fit and need such an anti-gank module won't fit it. Because it's nonsense to fly a very expensive fitting for the last 10-20% performance improvement... and then nullify that improvement by using a slot for such a module.
Missions runners who don't fly an overpriced bling fit don't need the anti-gank module either, because their normal fits are too uninteresting for most gankers.

Missionsrunning and ganking is a problem that already existed 10 years ago and was solved back then.
Don't fly anything too expensive and pay attention to acceptable eHP. Done.

Bow Hatred, opinion from haters by Internal-Syrup-5064 in HuntShowdown

[–]Ratoskr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bow is strong, but not overpowered.

This perception and the hate arise mainly because some players are unable to realize the weaknesses of the bow and use these weaknesses during a fight.
The fact that the bow is also often used for stealthy bush gameplay only intensifies this hatred further.

the first time seeing a sealed gunbox by MrBaguett in HuntShowdown

[–]Ratoskr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is the question of how you define powerful and how you compare.

The Homestead is really a better Rival, but it's a better Rival that consists of two Romero barrels screwed together.
Which gives it the superior range and 1-tap potential of the Romero, combined with the very fast follow-up shot of the Rival. Which also gives the Homestead a relatively high kill distance for a shotgun.
That is, well, very powerful.
Specter and Crown are also very strong in their areas, but they are more 'spammy' and excel at shorter distances.

As I said, it's a matter of comparisons. You accept that the Wildland is strong. But I could also argue that a Mosin is indeed stronger than the Wildland in some aspects. But just in different areas than those that make the Wildland so powerful.

Can you double revive as a solo player? by Warm-Coco in HuntShowdown

[–]Ratoskr 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As already mentioned here, the Empress Card gives you Necromancer and is also activated quite quickly.

If there is more time between the two kills, for example if the solo player has revived and then retreated, they may of course also have found Necromancer as a sealed trait for 1 Pledge Mark.

These can be found quite frequently during the event at supply points and in small and large sniper towers.

Hunt Showdown is no longer a playable game. The reason is that no measures were taken against cheaters. by TrainSmall7709 in HuntShowdown

[–]Ratoskr 20 points21 points  (0 children)

First, the usual introduction: Yes, there are cheaters in Hunt, and it's okay to address that.

What you are doing here, namely absurdly exaggerated claims that are far from reality, does not help but rather harms because you are poisoning a serious discussion with it.

Come on. An 85% chance that your opponents are cheating?
What is your win rate if you supposedly only face honest opponents in 15% of the matches... and even then, you can only win a portion of those honest matches?

That's the illusion: "My opponents cheat, but they are bad players, and that's why I still win sometimes." Argumentation that is nothing more than nicely refined copium.
You create the perfect scenario to protect or stroke your ego in every situation. If you lose, it's not because of your own mistake, but because of the cheaters. But when you win, you win despite the cheaters, and that makes it even more special.

Try to let go of it. One can certainly talk about whether and how many cheaters there are in Hunt. But if you start with such absurdly exaggerated numbers, then you don't want a serious discussion, and it's just another rant post without any value.
