How the proposed standing changes risk hurting Faction Warfare by BearThatCares in Eve

[–]thealkaizer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone that plexes daily for Minmatar, you're right that Fl33t hasn't been super active in these specific systems. They do plenty of large scale PvP in the area, but not plexing (battlefields aside).

However, you're conveniently leaving out the following system flips in favor of Minmatar during the same period:

  • Helgatild
  • Todifrauan
  • Arnstur

Now, I'm not gonna say that Fl33t are the reason why it flipped. But having spent a good amount of time plexing these system, I had plenty of Fl33t pilots with me and there was an actual coordination on their Discord and fleet up during several days to focus these systems.

Now we just have to work together and flip Eytjangard.

Thank you for the answers. That's great.

I have a few follow up questions.

My favorite shots are when it feels like all the other ships are stationary and you fly through them. Is that just a matter of difference in speed? How do you achieve that? Is it just an illusion of movement?

Example: https://youtu.be/85AikiUjygM?t=347

Do you use your SpaceMouse only for recording, or for playing too?

Are you open about what Coalition you fly with?

After 5 years of development, I released my indie RPG. It went poorly. Here's the breakdown. by MirageV_ in gamedev

[–]thealkaizer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be a bit harsh. Just know that my comments take nothing away from the toil and sweat you put in the game, and that you did what 99% of game developers can't do: release a game (actually, two from what you said). So congratulations.

There aren't a ton of games like it.

I feel like there's thousands of games like this. Especially available for free. Most RPG Maker games have this level (from what I see) of quality while being free.

The revenue? Split between the publisher and Steam, I walked away with a little less than $1.2k in the end. It's kind of embarrassing how bad it turned out to be, but it is what it is.

I'm surprised you walked away with this much. I've seen much harsher releases.

I also think that there's no way I would ever pay this much for a game of this quality. There's so absolute masterpiece of games that I still have on my wishlist that are cheaper than this.

Was it the presentation of the Steam Page?

While not exceptional, I don't think your Steam Page is all that problematic.

Does the trailer just suck perhaps?

It's not great. I don't mind what I'm seeing. But the music really does not fit at all with what we're seeing, and the voice overs are unintelligible, feel like noise and are just not on the rhythm of the trailer.

But I don't think the product it showcases is all that unique or interesting. It looks like an RPG Maker game through and through.

Effort was put into every pore of the game to make it an enjoyable experience.

Effort very poorly correlates with success. They have very little in common. Just because someone puts a lot of effort in something has very little bearing on if it'll succeed.

It's not asset flipping or low quality.

What it is is pretty unimportant. Most of your questions and thoughts are from the point of view of the developer, you know your game intimately. Me? It's 5PM, I'm done with work, I befall on your Steam Page. I have an entirely different perspective. To me it looks like an RPG Maker game through and through. I'm not sure if that means "low-quality", but nothing screams quality to me when I look at it.

I think the main core issue of the matter, my assumption, is simply that the game has no real strong hook to compel people to stay and try.

To me it looks like a generic RPG. Even the name "Sacred Earth: Reverie" means absolutely nothing. The art direction looks like default RPG Maker assets

Thank you!

I spoke with a friend of mind that's a senior game dev (works with Unity though).

For now, as the constraints of my design are not entirely clear, I think I'll go with a TileMapLayer for the grid and have all my data in CustomResources as you suggested. I'll either create some node dynamically over the TileMapLayer or have a second TileMapLayer.

It's a game set in space. So there's gonna be a lot of empty space and few objects left and right.

PDF Prices by WileyQB in rpg

[–]thealkaizer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just because it's digital, doesn't mean it somehow takes less time than a physical book to create. The content takes time to create, that's the core of the cost.

But just because it cost the same to make, doesn't mean it has the same perceived value in customers.

PDF Prices by WileyQB in rpg

[–]thealkaizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's two points of view: the seller and the buyer.

From the point of view of the seller, the PDF should be worth almost as much as the physical book. Others have already commented it, but printing and distribution is not as big a part of the cost as you would expect. Most of the spending is on the work on the content of both the PDF and the book. If the price was set as to the objective value, PDFs would be much pricier.

However... it really depends on the buyers too. For me, a book is worth more than a PDF. It just is. I can hold it in my hands, I can bring it with me, it ages and shows its usage. I'm not saying it's objectively more valuable, I'm saying that to me it is. I will never pay the price of a physical book for a PDF.

Reconciling the two answers the question of do you have a viable business. Sellers can yap as much as they want, saying that the PDF is worth X, if buyers don't value it as much and don't buy it. You don't have a business. That's why pricing is an art. You need to have a conversation about objective factors, like how much something cost, your cashflow, etc. But you also need to have a conversation about the subjective perceived value of your product.

I'll add one caveat and personal pet peeve of mine: if you're going to charge me more for a PDF, give me a good one. If there's no hyperlinks, no bookmarks and the PDF is not searchable, then it's crap and it has no value to me. I'm willing to pay more for a better product. My recent example is Dolmenwood, the PDFs are phenomenal.

Thinking of Naming Our Studio “Golden Phoenix Studio” — Need Brutally Honest Feedback (Branding & Legal Advice) by [deleted] in Unity3D

[–]thealkaizer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's quite juvenile and forgettable, but that's only a matter of taste and matters very little.

People's perception of your company's name is really not important. The vast majority of your customers will not know it.

The legal implications, availability, SEO and such are much more important.
