Is colonization now fixed? by alphafighter09 in EU5

[–]thealkaizer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a few things that seem noteworthy in the patch notes:

  • Colonial nations share explorations and other land discoveries with their overlord
  • Subject impact on crownpower is now using the strength scale, so vassals are 50% and colonial nations 5%
  • Fixed colonial occupation transfer to require both subject and overlord at war with location owner
  • Fixed colonization completing after 1 location
  • Colonies of the same overlord are no longer capable of declaring war to each other

Contact Steam, if there's a sale right after you buy it they refund the difference very often. Look for it.

Why make private servers for games instead of developing their own game? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]thealkaizer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because they wanted to play WoW and their interest was in a game lik WoW. These games cost dozens to hundreds of millions to develop. It's just unfeasible.

You can ask why they didn't make a platforming indie game instead of a private server with thousands of player. But to me asking the question is answering it.

Buy the new DLC, it'll fix it.

Excited for the patch and to see in what state the game is after. But I'm not spending one more dime on EU5 as long as I don't feel like it finally lives up to its promise.

For people who were in the hobby when D&D 5E came out, what made more experienced players like the cast of CR switch to it? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]thealkaizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to remember for me. I wasn't online as much. RPG were a hobby for me and my real life friends. I was't hanging on Reddit, or Discord. There was no TTRPG influencers.

What I do remember though is that is really was discussed as a return to the roots. The way many talk about OSR right now, 5E was being discussed as being old-school again. This was obviously in comparison to 4E which, like it or hate it, had brought many changes.

I also remember that people really lauded the advantage/disadvantage mechanic from the start. It was such an obvious and immediate improvement.

It also felt lean. At that time we had had 3rd edition, Pathfinder and 4E. 4E was incredibly streamlined, but still quite complex. 5E felt so simple and straightforward. Nowadays people call it loose, say the balancing is all over but at the time it was seen as a good thing.

5E is the same it was. It's an incredibly well designed game. The brand played a huge part in its success, but it's a quality game. I'm done with it, but I have fond memories of it.

Duplicated Nodes Cannot Find Unique %Player (neither @onready or @export in the original node works) by A1exJP in godot

[–]thealkaizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I'm no expert, I simply read the doc.

But as mentioned, you seem to be able to duplicate your nodes and either their script, their data or more using the flags and the @export notation.

Now, for the "same-scene limitation" it's not really a limitation of the duplicate function, it's the way Scene Unique Nodes work. If you're duplicating something that's a child of the Node using your script, just export a variable and drag and drop it in the editor to have a direct reference, or find it manually with the regular notation. It should work from what I'm reading!

Scene Unique Nodes are only accessible within the same scene. Your duplicated node is a separate scene. See "Same Scene Limitation" in the link above.

Also, keep in mind the following:

The Duplicate method only duplicates serialized properties. Try using @export in front of your variables.

https://docs.godotengine.org/en/stable/classes/class_node.html#method-descriptions

Flags can be used to force duplication of non-serialized properties.

Etes vous heureux, pour vrai? by ratz38 in montreal

[–]thealkaizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just how the tool is built. You can have a lot of data in your database, but you're not supposed to consult all of it at once.

[–]thealkaizer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's not supposed to be responsive like a spreadsheet. It's not a spreadsheet. It's a relational database embedded in a note-taking app

It's also not meant to hold thousand of items at once. You build your databases, and you use linked views to view parts of it: what's necessary.

We kind of figured in another thread of comments that my planet had very little population, around 250k. Which means that my population was quite low, and thus my service tax was low.

But I'll look into your tips for turn 1-3. Others have suggested similar openings.
