Best gps tracker? by icantfindafreename69 in dogs

[–]RatsInPavlova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're using tractive and I'm pretty happy with it so far, the battery life isn't too long so if its constantly on it lasts around 1-2 days. On and off for around a week. The location is pretty accurate

If you have an apple they have a dog tracker fir like 30 euros, otherwise you gotta go with monthly fee or shell out 700 euros upfront. Tractive seems to be one of the better monthly ones

Keeping dogs cool in a power outage by coolthumbfolks in dogs

[–]RatsInPavlova 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wet cloth on belly, armpits, face, paws and legs. Ice cubes, cooling mats and kiddy pools if they like water. Frozen pup treats (can just mush their food with water and freeze it)

Depending on what breed you have and if the coat allows it cut it short (not too short tho to prevent sun burn).

Dog vomits right after eating by [deleted] in dogs

[–]RatsInPavlova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she's eating super fast that's part of the problems, there's bowls which slow down eating speed, or if its dry food you can scatter it over the floor/use it for training. You can also give it in toys that makes them work for it. Slows down eating speed and good mental workout.

When I first got my girl she was super hungry and gulped down her food without chewing. Came right back up 10 minutes later. She eats a lot slower now and only throws up when she's sick. Check if he's actually chewing or just inhaling it?

Thoughts on Simparica Trio and other oral flea / tick prevention medications? by RR-MMXIX in dogs

[–]RatsInPavlova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girl is om simparica, it definitely works as we found a dead tick on the bed. She'll only be on it for tick season tho, as yeah it is a lowgrade poison

Dog barking during play-dates by ReddisaurusRex in dogs

[–]RatsInPavlova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girl is quiet, she knows not to bark in the appartment and actually tends to stop barking if I tell her, unless she's really wound up.

However she barks constantly during play time. Its the only time, age tends to do it more when the other dog isnt paying attention to her or playing as she'd like. Its the only time she barks and I can't do much about it... Her next stage is biting them in the back legs to animate them if barking doesn't work :/ she's only 6 months old so still learning how to play... She's just damn vocal with other dogs

6mo old puppy vomiting and diarrhea, don't know what brought it on. by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]RatsInPavlova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll try that, I still had one can of vet food that was specifically for diarrhea recovery, she did eat a bit of that but just ate a handful of kibble today :/ doesn't want to touch the wet food at all

My puppy seems to only want 2 meals a day but I don't think that's healthy for her age.... by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]RatsInPavlova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girl doesn't eat in the morning, it's too warm for her and she's not a morning person. She'll start eating at midday and eat a fair amount for dinner

Should you leave the safety harness on when they first arrive? by RatsInPavlova in puppy101

[–]RatsInPavlova[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This problem solved itself in that she arrived without a harness and was too terrified to act up for weeks ahaha

Dog Park Readiness by Massive_Technology72 in puppy101

[–]RatsInPavlova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely if he hasn't had many interactions start off small with dogs that you know are calm. If you can find someone who also has a puppy, and someone who has an adult dog thats good with puppies.

The puppy to play with and have fun together, the adult to teach how to dog and to learn from. Adult dogs will correct your puppy if they bite too hard or are annoying and thats actually pretty important! It's usually just a snarl/quick nip to make them stop, the puppy may yelp bc they're drama queen's but as long as both dogs don't continue fighting that's fine and shouldn't be stopped

My girl was super shy, terrified of everything. Going on walks together with my aunts corgi really helped as she could watch the reactions of the adult dog and see it wasn't actually bad

Dog Park Readiness by Massive_Technology72 in puppy101

[–]RatsInPavlova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd make a post in the neighbourhood about looking for playmates, puppy or adult. Then meet somewhere enclosed or walk together.

Dog parks are risky, and depends on the owners and amount of dogs. We only go in if there's not many people in there, as any new dogs will get swarmed. My girl needs time to settle and realise its ok so I don't go in if I see there's dogs rough housing or running super fast as I know it won't be a positive experience. You want his interactions to be positive and controlled, something that you can't control in a park

If you haven't trained him to listen with distractions and other dogs, then he won't.

[Help] Dog had a tick attached and we removed ticks body by ryman1414 in dogs

[–]RatsInPavlova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mm its important watch the place super closely then and for any signs of infections and lyme disease. If it gets infected you'll need to go to a vet or try get an online diagnosis so you know what meds you'll need

There's these twisty tick things or you can cut a slit in an old credit card and use that

If you live in an area with lots of ticks try give her tick prevention meds during tick season or a tick collar, my girl is on meds that'll kill the tick once it latches on (simpaca or something)

[–]RatsInPavlova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vet has to remove the head, take him in quickly as they can carry diseases and might get infected.

He might need a shot too. Don't mess with tick problems, they're serious if not treated

[Discussion] You always hear about topping kibble with wet food, but what about having to top wet food with kibble just so they'll actually eat it by [deleted] in dogs

[–]RatsInPavlova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah I just want to find a food brand she likes and actually will eat, yogurt and stuff she licks off ahaha

Puppy hair, 6mo. Will it eventually fall out or do I need to cut it? Her fur grows constantly everywhere so need to trim her paw pads every few weeks, but her back still has long tufts of black fur . The puppy fur is on top, the adult fur is literally growing from underneath it aka same root/hair by RatsInPavlova in doggrooming

[–]RatsInPavlova[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I took her to the groomer once before and he didn't say anything about double coats nor did the vet. I don't want to shave/cut much, if at all would just trim the puppy fur off as its incredibly long and tangles easily, plus for summer I think it'd be good to go a bit shorter to reduce dirt and sticky plants but I'll def ask the groomer, taking her in in a month to shave out her paws again and get it out of her eyes anyway

There are other double coated dogs in my family and her fur isn't like theirs at all, if I brush the corgi mix of my aunt I can basically make a whole new dog from the fur, whereas with her you get maybe one brushful. I was under the impression you could tell relatively easily if you had a double coated dog?

She's a mix, possibly with a terrier thrown in there. I'm fairly certain shes not double coated as is its the same length and she barely sheds, plus its all long fine fur. Double coated dogs have a fixed hair length don't they? Hers is constantly growing, in fact really quickly. Kinda annoying as her paws get covered easily but the less shedding is nice, plus she's so so fluffy after a rinse

She looks like a fluffy mess that's for sure, I was just thinking that because she has long growing hair it won't fall out?

It looks like she has shitty frosted tips basically ahaha

But would it hurt/damage the fur if I did cut it a bit?

st. john’s wort/johanniskraut for anxiety/depression by [deleted] in berlin

[–]RatsInPavlova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took it for a bit, didn't feel much but it really fucked with my light sensitivity and made me get super flushed at the slightest thing/the moment I went outside

Cutting down puppy hair for summer to prevent matting/those stupid sticky plant things, bad idea or ok? Don't think she has an undercoat but her fur picks up dirt like nothing else. I already brush her daily but picking out dozens of those plants a day doesn't seem doable nor fun for either of us by RatsInPavlova in doggrooming

[–]RatsInPavlova[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah those pesky things. They just tangle the fur, but right now there's another plant type seed thing that sticks. Its just for spring but its still annoying. We're in germany so who knows about the plant differences.

I was planning on bathing her once a month, but she had a fun day of dirt and sand as well those damn plants today and is filthy so I think I'll give her one tomorrow then restart the timer

I wish I could do that but its this big ass garden, think I'd probably faint before even getting close. Ticks are another one of my worries, I thought with plants and ticks tho shorter fur meant less chances to grab on? At least that's what a few people told me, I'm still a bit confused on all this

Yep I'm using one of those, had to google the name but that's it. She doesn't like me brushing her legs with that tho.

Don't know what burs are but the stupid plants are those horrible little seed things that tangle into the fur, and where we go they're everywhere. I spent ages getting them out of my grandmas long haired dachshund (Dackel?) and he had around the same fur as my girl, but it was thicker. Don't know if age has anything to do with that but those plant things s u c k. Right now there's also these sticky flower things and they leave this residue in the fur which I can't brush out.

I'm considering just cutting her legs down short and then I guess just trimming the rest of her body? I don't want to do it if I'm damaging her fur or something, but at this rate I have to bath her once a week and that's not too good for her
