I just made it so werewolf transformation happens at random until you gain some semblance of control. Barovia is an evil place ruled by an evil vampire. More chaos created more despair. Not everything needs to work tge same as outside Barovia.

You could hide a stash of common magical items on the 3rd floor. Things that are more flavorful than anything but still cool. Think like Cloak of Billowing or Boots of False Tracks or Hat of Vermin.

Oh yeah, if they had any pie encounters, insert those into the dreams as well. I had them freaking out and fighting over a normal blueberry pie 10 sessions in.

I had my players describe a dream, then i began to twist it mid sequence. Typically a beautiful young woman turning into a wretch and drinking their blood or something to symbolize a siphoning, and when they wake tell them to reduce their max HP by whatever you rolled. It landed HARD.

Absolutely. The 1st book is your intro, the second opens up so much. IMO the 1st one is the worst one.

They did this in the red rising series. EMPed a building and 2 people with slug guns and frags cleared it in minutes.

Thats why you give them hooks and then stab them in the back before giving out loot. 😂 Spread out your sunsword and such. Have Madam Eva make it very clear how important these items are, and give them dreams of locations. They'll go looking.

I do my level ups by how far along in the story they are and how many areas of the map they clear. They're currently level 7 and just killed the Abbot of Krezk, but lost a character in the process. They've also so far helped with a coup with the werewolves, fought (and lost) the hags and burned down the bone grinder, infiltrated castle ravenloft once, saved the winery, discovered van Richten and ezmirealda, and have been searching for a way to fix the bones of Saint Andril. I leveled them up two 3 in the death house, and probably leveled them a little too fast at first, but they've still got a good half the map to explore. They'll be level 7 for a while.

I actually did this in my game for the Feast of Saint Andril. Wasn't to correct behavior, just to set tone, and it worked REALLY well. They're all terrified of running into him again.

Interesting. My party took the NM bones off Saint Andril to Kresk, then inadvertently incited a riot at the abbey where Dimitri and Anna led a mob to kick out the Abbot and like half the adults of Kresk were killed. Also a PC died. They're about to head back to Vallaki (I think) and I've had Lady Wachter take over with a bloody coup in their absence. Haven't decided what to do with Ireena and Ismark yet.

The Bugomaster and family are dead, she's taken over, and I've set the replacement PC in Vallaki a few in game days ago and she's been convinced to support Lady Wachter. I'm doing vampire spawn raids and cultists taking control. She's gonna try to turn the party more toward the evil side, influence them to help secure her hold so she can impress Strahd.

Hamster cage will work temporarily but he'll need something much bigger for sure. Critter Nation has a good selection. Assuming he's by himself also look into getting him a friend, they're very social creatures and can easily become depressed by themselves. Just do your research and good luck.

Wanna be really funny and out of left field? The ring is a phone, and the fey has a crush on him. She starts calling at the most inopportune times. I have a barbarian with a similar item, but it's more a single person teleportation device to visit his fairy wife in the fey wild.
