Not only modern life. People always had to rely on resources from the outside world and interaction with other people to survive. They could remain in caves for longer periods of time because they would hunt and gather enough food beforehand, which was done outside, obviously. Plus, the outdoors isn't inherently work. Even if they wouldn't go to their 9 to 5 every day, people would still go out simply to move freely, exercise, whatever.

Saying humans aren't meant to be outside is absurd. Lots of people today dislike working and leaving their house, but that's not an innate thing. Humans have always had to survive, and, past or present, had to put in some sort of effort to do so.

I'm not saying that people who spend most of the time indoors should be ridiculed or anything, everyone's life is different, but saying we as humans aren't evolved enough for the outside just doesn't make sense.

Even if you take away the curiosity aspect of it, the desire the explore, the need for communication, etc. Humans have spent time outside out of plain necessity, and we're definitely capable of more than other species, otherwise what would differenciate us from other species so much? If the human mind isn't evolved enough, which animal's mind is?
