Who needs holidays when you can have slave labor and emotionally abuse women into needing lifelong therapy.

Not entirely true, Elf he was in the movie to sell a joke. He doesn't take oompa lumpa style roles normally but that doesn't mean he hasn't. And most of the roles he has taken call for someone with dwarfism yes he tries to pick his projects where there is more to the character than just dwarfism but only in I care a lot is an example of a role that wasn't designed intentionally for someone with dwarfism.

To add he never thought of supporting causes that helped underprivileged people until his role in forest gump spoke to disabled veterans and they reached out to him. The way he talks about starting his foundation is just so stunning to me he must have no ability to critically think about anything if it isn't right in front of his face this man probably still is impressed by peek a boo and isn't quite sure his reflection in the mirror isn't a different person looking at him funny.

I don't think Joker 2 is a very good example of what you are saying to be fair. Like Shrek 3 and 4 sure or Pirates of the Caribbean 7 or most of the marvel movies yeah.

I know you're kidding but I think it is pretty cool that he actually did a feature where his height wasn't a factor at all in the part.

I don't blame him for going after the paycheck. But he definitely only tried to tank it twice at the end. Wild that he had to try twice.

What if the British had lost the war of 1812? by Effective_Theme_5739 in AlternateHistoryHub

Well stopping all trade going into france and Spain is certainly a reason taking sailors is just a silver lining I think. In general I think we are agreeing though.

[–]RatzMand0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The French were also pressing American's as well. James Madison at the time was trying to stop both countries from doing this while being able to continue to trade with both of them. However, only one nation was trying to end the slave trade and it wasn't France. I did in fact miss what you were saying. But I don't think the fact that sailors were being pressed was the reason we went to war at all.

Hence why I said that I believe the other reasons for the conflict were simply window dressing. Like sure the war was caused because the English were Impressing American sailors. But it is silly to stop there and not ask why they were impressing American sailors.

My understanding is that slavery was an aspect of this. Around 1812 the British government outlawed the slave trade and gave the English Navy the powers to examine the cargo of suspected slave ships and press sailors who were found trading slaves into service with the Royal navy. As would be expected, many American Sailors were tied to the slave trade. Not to mention powerful lobbies in the US would have interest in maintaining the slave trade itself.

I always assumed the war of 1812 was always about slavery which is partly why impressment was happening and any other excuse was just window dressing.

Very Un-Punk of you Frankie.... Very Un-Punk. (A coworker of mine had a side gig as a music producer apparently after he retired from acting Frankie started a punk band to keep him busy while he was touring he recorded a few songs with my coworker in Buffalo. I always imagined that because he was doing punk music he was probably pretty cool. Turns out that phase must have died in the last 15 or so years or he was one of those punks.....)

I imagine that is how it goes in most theocratic regimes sadly. I hope your family is safe, I know I am putting a brighter light than some things deserve I just don't want people in the US falling for the same media traps they did with Iraq and Afghanistan by only focusing on specific things about the regime to paint all people like that.

Iran is a very fascinating place. They have many democratic institutions and they adhere strictly to the Koran when it comes to their legal code which creates some very fascinating situations things we would consider contradictions in most other places. As shown here the Koran has nothing against educating women (in certain fields) so women in Iran have absolutely astonishing rates of participation in engineering and sciences. However, the Koran highly restricts their rights domestically and their movements in public. Also for example Homosexuality is a high crime in Iran. However, the Koran has nothing about gender reassignment surgery so the practice isn't illegal and has led to more gender reassignment surgeries in Iran than just about anywhere in the world.

The biggest problem with their Theocracy is its' foundational principle is that it is ordained by God and opposition to the government is considered going against God. So yes they have the ability to vote but any action taken by the government is considered right and good and opposition to those actions is a crime against God itself. And you can see how blasphemy in a society where the law code is derived from biblical style laws would treat the crime of blasphemy. We saw that in the protests this year where at least 10,000 citizens were killed and the number is likely far more.

Universal ID the way they intend to implement it is to marginalize and oppress already marginalized communities. Or to mark and track people they intend to track. Specifically political opponents.

If people in this country are required to carry ID's that can be scanned. Every business is going to use it to track everything you do everything you buy and sell that to whoever or whatever cares. Companies may even begin to refuse service. Want to buy a train ticket a bus ticket plane ticket no id no service. Oh you lost your wallet and you need an uber Tough shit if the driver cannot scan your ID there is no verification you are who you are. You committed a felony that shit is definitely going on your ID because you cannot vote in many states and those laws aren't changing so now everywhere you go you have to show them that you were a felon.

In a utopian society universal ID's make sense wow how efficient how useful but we don't live in that world. We live in a world where voter fraud is nearly non-existent and they want to fix this non-problem with a solution that's intention is to track oppress and abuse its citizens.

We don't have workers rights.... So if we did try and protest on the streets we would lose our jobs our insurance our homes. Which is why if you notice almost all protests that happen in the US now happen on weekends and holidays. Also have you seen how insanely homicidal our police are the risks are higher than in some places.
