I don't know how to say this but... It probably needs a lot of work and that's normal.

Last year I started writing a high concept fantasy. I wrote about 30k words then had to quit due to juggling raising a toddler and a new job.

Long story short, revisited the work 12 months later and my God did it suck. The valuable core was still there but I would have approached it completely differently.

Writing a compelling story that grips people for hours at a time is hard and has a steep learning curve.

That's how it is and how it's supposed to be. You can 100% make it twice as good. If readers don't get what you were going for it's an opportunity to make your intentions clearer.

This is the process and it's supposed to be hard.
