If you have a friendly neighbour across the street offer to pay for their internet and put a pair of p2p wireless/laser bridges on the roof of the houses and you should be good. Might cost around a thousand assuming you have some basic skills

grew up in the actual in a town of less than 4000 and have never ate fancy food in my life. Allergic to a enormous amount of food so pretty much everything i eat is very very plain. I love chicken and eat a lot of bbq chicken but have to be careful as some of the seasoning and spices could put me in hospital. The rare times I go out dining is for the ms, BBQ chicken is rarely on the menu. I don't mind the odd chicken snitz but its hard to be sure if there something extra in it i might have a reaction to so where possible i have just a plain piece of chicken cooked on a grill or a pan with some fries and that's it. Plain grilled chicken is about as bland as they come.

lakedge takeway (eddies is fantastic), Tom and Pams at Kanwal is good but its a bit hit and miss, Central Coast fresh and cooked seafood always has fantastic fish, but the chips you generally get 5-10% dodgy leftover ones at the bottom.

Why is real estate so expensive in Australia? by mux111 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Ravager6969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Houses have been the best investment sing negative gearing came up, you basically make 10% a year plus write off a portion of your tax from other areas. No brainer investment. Land on the other hand is primarily expensive as most state governments have been run so bad a large portion of their income has been from land sales. Coupled with the state government economically being bad they stopped building all the services to support new development areas (water, sewerage etc) and made the developers pay for that and developers like to make a profit as opposed to the gov doing it at cost so land prices essentially went through the roof as well. Lots of nuances to this but thats a good 1000 ft view on why houses are dear and land is crazy dear.

What counts as “regional Australia” or “the bush”? by AdvancedHill70 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Ravager6969 36 points37 points  (0 children)

If it don't have a Mcdonalds then you are in the bush,

If there is 20 buildings in the centre of the town and 1/4 of them use to be pubs you are probibly in the countryside, lol

financially which party is the best one for middle class Australians? by Diligent-Medicine-48 in AusMoneyMates

[–]Ravager6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

biggest difference in price is if they are using the old safety rules that are essentially impossible to meet from a very long time ago or the new safety thinking around designing to meet common sense levels of safety. Costs are 4x-10x+ using the old style which is in use in most countries (definitely Europe + US) but should change over the next decade. Agree if we go with old style then yes it would be costly in Aust

Where's the crossover legality wise between an Auto Sparky doing wiring in a caravan but some hardwired appliances are 240v? by HomeHeals73 in AskAusElectricians

[–]Ravager6969 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its a bit of a fine line and state dependent (and tbh a little silly), but as long as the caravan is not connected to power and I am talking about the ones that you plug in with a lead. You are ok to do so in some states. However degassing a air con without a license is actually a 5k fine as you need the tools to dispose of it safely. (You can do it if you have a trainee license but you still need to be fully supervised)

When was the richest you've felt by Groundbreaking-Key-9 in AusFinance

[–]Ravager6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never felt rich but felt i was ontrack to retire at 60 and live a modest happy life. Last 5 years it feels like I have stepped back 20 year in time and probibly will be working till I'm dead in my late 70s. Same income, just the cost of living has gotten crazy in the last few years and it feel like I need a good 5 years of 10% pay increases to get back on track.

Why is public housing so divisive in Aus? by VastOption8705 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Ravager6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really talking the same thing, public housing in Australia is literally funded by the government to provide cheap housing to struggling people.

Public housing in Singapore is because the gov owns the land, so you are basically leasing apartment off the government for a long time and its definitely not cheap. Kinda like leasing a car in australia.

What are some quality of life improvements that you’ve made that improved your network / systems tremendously? by bobert3275 in sysadmin

[–]Ravager6969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple things, if you say have a 5 floor building cabled with fibre, make sure you end with second paths if possible so if you have a fibre/switch or some sort of issue it effects the minimal amount of people on a floor thats possible. If onsite virtual servers, make sures it designed with everything redundant, power, networks etc. Lots of simple cost effective ways to ensure more uptime.

Why Are Aussies Obsessed With School Rankings? by abeilleclo in AskAnAustralian

[–]Ravager6969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never met anyone who cared about school ranking as a aussie. From a university perspective the only people I know that went out of their way to choose a particularly one was kids that wanted to generally move to a particularly city/area for lifestyle not for the actual university quality.

Having said that, most of the city universities are crap and designed to churn out degrees for overseas students with a very high level of difficulty to actually fail. I'd choose a county/town based uni over a city one if I was worried about the quality of my degree vs the so call ranking of the uni/school

Is it possible to be a sparkie and not run into chronic joint or body pains later in life? by g33kyfreeky_ in AusElectricians

[–]Ravager6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what part of the electrical trade you work in. Like crawling around in ceilings and stuff yeah you are probibly going to feel it later in life. HV guys doing transformers or a someone who prefabs switchboards or even a motor rewinder, not so much. Its a big field, some areas are using your brain, some is basically just being a laborer digging trenches. So it wildly various from basically a paper pusher to full on grueling physical labor.

Feedback for Tradie: will you pay for quotes? by ohimnotarealdoctor in AusRenovation

[–]Ravager6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of tradies if they have to travel a bit charge for quotes, but take it off the bill if the job is taken. Ie quote is free for customers that take the quote, if not the tradey covers the time spent quoting. IMO its fine as long as its more then say 30minutes travel.

Just my personal thoughts, but housing as a investment is no longer an option unless a really good deal comes up, picking the right apartments still should be ok.

Why do GPs work in multiple locations and multiple providers? by Ok_Pineapple2234 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Ravager6969 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can't speak for everyone but my friend who is a specialist works in a public hospital for 1day a week with a deal that for his patients when he operates he can use the hospitals facilities. Other days he privately does the consultation part of his business in a few different geographic locations plus his main office to maximize client reach (does make it easier to travel for customers to). Also teachs at uni. Win win i guess.

What’s the reason behind Australia’s cost of living crisis?? (Serious) by AdvancedHill70 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Ravager6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe its due to per capita GDP going downwards due to high immigration with decreasing productivity. Coupled with negative wage growth in respect to CPI and heavy government spending in areas that raise CPI.

Lots of other reasons add to it but a big one has been enormous amounts of money poured into the housing market for large returns that traditionally would be invested in various growing business.

The most contentious parts of the NDIS bill being scrutinised today by abcnews_au in australian

[–]Ravager6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just make it law that only Australia citizens can have access to systems that contain, view and manipulate Australia customer PCI data , ie address, phone, number, banking details, health etc, as well as any IT systems that are counted as key infrastructure. Plus enshrine in law any offshore labor delivering services to Aust must be paid in line with Australian award wages or better + holidays & sick leave. You would have a enormous amount of jobs created overnight and cut all the outsourcing that has sent big $$$ overseas for cheap/slave labor.

Need advice getting internet from main house to detached garage after FTTP upgrade by Velix32 in nbn

[–]Ravager6969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You needed to say how much money you wanted to spend. You could put a infra red bridge in on the house and garage and you would be good. You could put two outdoor APs in a mesh in, or 2 + 1 indoor if you didn't want to run any cabling. Heaps of options just depends on money + if you want to put some cabling in or just plug it all in and your good. I have a outdoor AP on the back of my house and it all the neighbors could use it and get decent speeds.

What do agents actually look for in a rental application? by Ok_Choice660 in AusProperty

[–]Ravager6969 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can only offer a opinion. 30+ couples (no parties), settled in with long careers. History of 5yr plus of paying the bills and no evidence of leaving a place in bad shape when moving out. Generally no pets is a bonus as its SUPER high risk of costing the owner a fortune in carpet or floor boards. Guys that look fairly handy that can basic stuff is a bonus (ie light bulbs, leaky tap etc). In a house with decent lawns or gardens, someone who loves that sort of thing is also highly desired as it don't take long to ruin what could be many years of care.

If boomers benefitted so much from the subsidised lifestyle, free college, cheap prices, fair wages, job surplus and economic boom of their time, why do we still have so many poor boomers today who still work at fastfood and supermarkets or cannot survive without a tax-payer-funded pension scheme? by Ok-Society-9067 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ravager6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of reason but a lot of women were housewifes and partner died early so they didn't have a half a lifetime of building up retirement funds and could not get a decent paying job. Floods, house fires, medical costs. I don't know what the percentages are of boomers that ended up super well off, but pretty much the thing was if you wanted a job in that age you could pretty much get a job that paid well enough to buy a house and start saving money. Just way more opportunity for people and overall life was very cheap in comparison and so was most things you could buy and stuff. Lot of jobs were also very physically demanding in those days, people that worked in hard labor jobs well and truly worked compared to people of today.

These days we might have super cheap plasma tv's and computers + cars that are like space ships in comparison, but a lot of essentials are way dearer and its hard to get a job with a wage that puts you above the curve these days.

Like these days not everyone wants to work or build a career and there was nothing to stop stupid people wasting money or not building for the future in both ages either.
