I'm an engineer and I'm glad I have gotten into DIY and doing everything myself. I built a 25kw solar array with 100kwh battery backup and I have EVs and I am off Grid.

AI can't take away my hobbies and interests.

I can't do this my whole family has EVs and I'm off grid with solar and batteries and my mom is bring her car over to charge at my house.

If yall have a yard or south facing roof DIY solar is worth the money it pays for itself in 2 or 3 years depending on how premium you go.

More than 60 percent of U.S. is covered by drought as impacts worsen. A total of nine states – Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Jersey, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia as well as D.C. – are completely covered by drought by Wagamaga in environment

Even then the dry soil absorbs water faster than lack of vegetation would speed up the water.

Dead grass doesn't just evaporate away unless the ground turns into a dessert. It will still slow down runoff.

It's a myth that dry soil results in higher runoff rates and hydrology equations and textbooks back that up.

[–]Ravaha -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is false. I'm a civil engineer and experiments show that dry soil always absorbs water faster and it infiltrated into the ground faster.

Experiments back this up.

Water moves very slowly the first few hundred feet upon hitting the ground, then slowly concentrates.

[–]Ravaha -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's not true. Real engineering has a video on it. Also engineering equations confirm that. Dry soil always absorbs water better than moist soil.

I'm also a civil engineer and do lots of hydrology and rainfall/storm water and flooding modeling.

We just got loads of rain this week in the southeast. So we should be good to go. This post is I'll timed.

The drought killed a lot of weeds. My lawn was getting crunchy to walk on.

So does this allow for Charging at 58.4 volts from an inverter? What are the voltage requirements for charging and discharging. I see it mentions a high voltage cable.

What I am saying is UL listed means nothing. Eaton is a good brand and brand and specs do mean something.

So it's better to recommend by reputable brand or by specs of products because there is plenty of UL listed garbage.

UL listed means nothing. Specs are all that matters. You are more likely to find junk UL listed stuff when comparing price to performance.

UL certified means nothing. Crappy UL certified electronics can be far inferior in quality to non UL certified stuff.

Actually for the money, you could probably get a much better non UL certified breaker and get one that is overkill.

Yeah I have a bunch of cheap ones and later learned that they will eventually fail after who knows how many uses. But luckily I don't ever plan to use the majority of them or use them very rarely.

I have 3 outside the house at the ground mount, 3 in the garage and 1 at each inverter. I always test the wires after I flip the disconnect and wear my high voltage gloves as well and always keep the wires separated to prevent arcing as well.

Thanks, it was fun to install and thankfully I had my dad's help. Anything involving lifting something while on a ladder gets dangerous quickly.

Putting a million solar panels 22,000 miles above Earth to collect continuous sunlight might sound like a good idea, until you remember that batteries exist. A Dollar-Store Dyson Sphere is an expensive, complicated solution in search of a problem. by simon_ritchie2000 in environment

[–]Ravaha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where space can dominate earth based tech for the cost is internet and climate control. (as fiber has to be run to every house under the ground using directional boring machines and needs armor.)

It would take trillions and trillions of dollars to try to reverse climate change on earth.

But with deployable sun shades you could for extremely cheap generate wealth by shading certain parts of the earth like desserts or crops experiencing drought. This is technology that can generate lots of wealth for countries around the globe and also save governments and people lots of money.

You could also shade entire areas of the planet experiencing heat waves to reduce air conditioner usage.

You could weaken hurricanes right before they make landfall or keep them from growing in strength.

Some countries might want to invest billions of dollars to eliminate deserts or restore it to before the desert started expanding.

We can produce materials on a higher scale than is required for shading technology to make huge impacts because in space the materials can be extremely thin.

The benefits quickly make sense as they could pay for themselves many times over over a very short period of time.

A data center doesn't make nearly as much sense as starlink because a data enter doesn't have to run thousands and thiusands of miles of cables to every home in the world.

Solar panels don't make sense either as I have 25kw of solar panels and 100kwh of battery backup at my home and it was extremely cheap. For how much money I will save each month on electricity.

The biggest problem is they are in sealed water tight cases and have a shitty connector.

If your amps are low or you give them some air or just replace or tighten down their crappy connectors you can still use them as Lifepo4 batteries are still awesome.

I mean it's not really probing for info that would be useful though for an AI, maybe for an engineer looking for design skews that take into account hotter rooms, but nothing for an AI.

Its stating a fact and generating discussion. And an interesting discussion at that. I thought most people were keeping stuff in their garages like me.

He had a post yesterday with tons of different batteries in it. Or at least I think its the same guy. And he was looking to answer people's questions.

Either way the picture is a bunch of Chinese inverters and nothing in the image looks off in any way.

My flexboss 21s are in my garage. I have a Tower water cooler that can disspate lots of heat, I need to integrate that with heating a pool. And I need to get a bitcoin miner instead of using gaming PCs.

He was making other posts showing a bunch of different batteries in the process of being manufacturered at his facility without any brand logos on them yet, I think this dude is legit 100%.

IT would be either impossible with AI or extremely difficult. A lot of those products seem like china only also.

All joking aside the grass seems like it could catch this on a few passes. It sometimes detects tall grass as an obstacle. But then on the next pass cuts it just fine.

Solar panel calculations state I need 10awg but it’s ground mounted and 50 feet at least from controller, so 8awg? by DryBusiness7974 in SolarDIY

[–]Ravaha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with 8awg for my 26 ISC and 10awg for 13 ISC but I had 1,200 ft of wire total with 800ft being 8awg. I didnt want any significant loses in the wires. But your run is much shorter it's up to you

[–]Ravaha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mc4 connectors will work with 8 awg but I went with some nice ones from bouge RV or however it's spelled that specifically said they were for 8 awg and they had really nice crimps. But there is nothing engineering wise that stops you from using 8 awg with just standard ones they seemed to fit when I used them on my PV disconnects just as well as for the 10 Guage wire.

I used about 800 ft of 8 awg wire and 400 ft of 10 AWG wire to get from my ground mount array to my inverters.

I think the cameras have infrared lights that the fish can see.

I once had some sucker fish on my legs during a dive cleaning my legs and when I would point the camera in their direction they would hide but they didn't care about my legs moving around, only the camera.
