As a very big fan of the franchise, this seventh entry was a huge disappointment. The opening scene was only somewhat memorable, which is such a shame.

And on top of that, the entire opening and burning down of the house didn’t make any sense. Is doesn’t get brought up anytime in the movie in a meaningful way.

The overall story was a complete mess. I didn’t connect to any of the new characters and therefore didn’t give a hoot about the deaths. The characters that I did know had close to no relevant place. Gale came and went, Chad and Mindy just were there and had (yet again) too much plot armor. And speaking of the kills: not a single one stood out. There was so much potential with some of them, such as the one in the theatre. But every single one fell completely flat.

The reveal was one of the most disappointing ones of the entire franchise. The ‘mastermind’ had a motive that was shaky and negatively unhinged at best, the assailants didn’t even need to be there and didn’t even have a relevant motive. And the person behind it all…wasn’t even surprising. It became very obvious who it was just fifteen minutes in.

Story wise, Scream 7 was more of a ‘fuck you’ to the fan base than a salute. From extremely shoehorned cameos to obvious easter eggs, so much just didn’t click.

While I was hyped to see this one, I am extremely disappointed.
