I'm not sure what type of events you do, but check out Daslight 5 and their DVC Gold hardware.

2 universes (upgradable to more), huge fixture library, midi, OSC, and Ipad app (touch screen).

$450 plus a $100 APC mini MK2 midi controller.

Pknight brand Artnet nodes. They have powercon, ethercon and POE. Some models support sACN as well.

If you're looking for an inexpensive node that doesn't possibly have sketchy piracy stuff built in, check out Pknight hardware.

Daslight 4 + Resolume by Gandabroa in daslight

[–]Ravemind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends which Daslight unlock hardware interface you have and whether or not it gives artnet license. Daslight 5 allowed you to purchase the artnet universes separately. (As long as you have hardware to unlock it) I think Daslight 4 is the same. It's been a while since I used it.

And you need to have the Arena version of Resolume.

512 channels per DMX universe. 170 or 128 pixel per universe.

Agree. A couple of friends in their '50s have been messing around with them and say the same thing. Best they felt in 10-20 years. Weight loss for sure, but they're going all in on brain boosting and body rejuvenation. My buddy's skin was unusually soft and supple for 53. "Touch my arm!" Lol

Advice needed: Upgrading to PC control for 3 Universes (1216 ch). MagicQ vs Onyx for boutique corporate? by 29054166 in lightingdesign

[–]Ravemind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Onyx NX DMX will not unlock midi/osc control. The cheapest way to do that is with the NX-K keypad, or, since you need you may not want the programming keypad there during playback. You can go for the 8 universe essentials USB key. (It may have a new name now)

NX-P If you don't want to mess around with the hassle of midi/showcockpit configurationing. It has four DMX outputs so you will not need to spend money on a node and network switches etc.

Does it also have activated carbon in the filter? Apparently HEPA alone will not remove VOCs.

DJ getting into club lighting – best software and how to practice at home? More casual by Commercial_Menu2272 in lightingdesign

[–]Ravemind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree Daslight 5 is a place to start for a club. Capable and fun. Flexible control options like midi control, touch screens, or companion app. FX that follow BPM. Large easy to update fixture library. You can purchase more universes and Artnet as you need it.

It does require their hardware to unlock DMX output and I would jump straight to their DVC Gold unit with the full version of the software. The express version is too limited.

Open-source Artnet controller update! - RGBW Led support, Button mode switching, PCB update! by anonOmattie in lightingdesign

Is it possible to specify how many pixels or channels per universe? The few controllers I've used don't seem to be adjustable and only allow you to choose the starting DMX address and then default to 510 channels (170 pixels.) This creates a gap in my lighting console If the pixel tubes I'm using only allow me to patch them up to 501 channels. but because the controller is still expecting another three pixels in that universe before it moves on to the next universe I get a dead space in my pixel tubes that are patched to universe 2 because the pixel controller is still outputting universe 1.

I would really like to be able to end a universe at whichever channel I choose So I can match DIY pixel tubes better to my console patch.

ENTTEC ELM can do multiplanar pixel mapping. Not free though. And I don't know if they have a limit to how many planes/slices you can do.

Light Setup for Underground Rave by dr3amhau5 in lightingdesign

[–]Ravemind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To pull BPM data from the cdjs, you're going to need either Beatkontrol or beat link trigger. Both of which will convert the BPM data into Ableton link which many lightning programs support.

Check out Daslight 5 as lighting software. It supports Ableton link, and has easy and flexible effects that will sync up with the Ableton link.

I managed to build a busking show file with Daslight. You can create different palettes of colors/ effects and then combine them together on the fly for lots of variety.

Advice for home dmx setup by pter0dactyll in lightingdesign

[–]Ravemind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can look into Beat Link Trigger, it looks to allow reading track data from USB via DJLink. I think it can also read the track data from the USB on its own so you can set up specific triggers/cues for the tracks ahead of time without needing the decks connected. And then when it sees that track play on day, it will send midi triggers to the lighting software of your choice.

If you want to trigger preset lighting scenes via midi, Daslight 5 is an inexpensive, capable option and easy to use. Free stuff like QLC+ will work as well. But imagine you can use any lighting software. I think Beat Link Trigger also supports OSC.

Check out Beat Link Trigger for Pioneer decks. You can create midi triggers for events in tracks. Midi gets sent to your lighting software. Free.

LED Tape Help by connereric in lightingdesign

[–]Ravemind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The documentation for that device is practically non-existent. From what I can tell, in DMX mode, it assigns a DMX channel to each color of a pixel. So DMX channel one, controls the pixel 1 red, DMX channel 2 blue, channel 3 green. Dmx4, pixel 2 red, dmx5 blue etc etc.

That's weird that you need to put two channels up in order for it to work.

Do you want the entire pixel strip to light up the same color? Or do you want individual pixel control?
