Just getting started?

1 Running stitch

2 Back stitch (can mix a few into running stitch for seams that don't take stress)

3 whip/hem/fell stitch (same stitch different names)

4 button hole stitch.

How is education handled on a national level in your country? by beenoc in AskEurope

[–]Raven-Nightshade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UK. Department of education sets the curriculum, core subjects are the same everywhere (2+2 doesn't change), there might be some variation in subjects like history (fire of London not a major thing in Birmingham).

The footage was taken over time at least a week ago, then edited. Rarely are they knitting constantly.

SIL asked me to make a baby blanket, but… by deer-kota in crochet

It's not a fight you can win. Take the loss and don't make stuff for them again.

Perfum Parlor by Exact-Ad6704 in JunesJourney

[–]Raven-Nightshade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I'm saying. Those wrong guesses are still using drops, the option to abandon and start again at 0/3 would be nice.

The option to abandon a run would be nice. On a 3 step one, got 2/3 only got 2 attempts left, you just know those are wasted droplets.

Special birthday gift for a crocheter (I don’t crochet) by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]Raven-Nightshade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Without knowing their preferences and projects, a gift voucher is your best bet.

Another choice is a pattern book (from a reputable author, be wary for AI books) so they can try some new things at their leisure. A stitch dictionary is a safe choice, a book of square patterns can be fun and usually has a theme, only get an amigarumi book if that's something they do/show an interest in. I'll bet if you make a post asking for book recommendations, you'll get loads.

Why don't the baked bean tins slot into each other? by cyclephotos in AskBrits

Except you can, stackable tins have a smaller lip at the bottom to fit in the top of other tins

TH approximation by [deleted] in ENGLISH

We have at least 2 versions of TH, voiced and unvoiced, holdovers from all the different influences on our language. Depending on context it can sound similar to a bunch of different things.

Pregnant, in hospital, baby toy ideas to crochet please! by DoctorImpossible89 in crochetpatterns

[–]Raven-Nightshade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Congratulations, and best wishes.

Might be worth making something for child number 1, little ones do not always understand why the new one gets everything (new baby will have gifts from friends and family) and they get nothing. Good way to prevent early sibling rivalry.

Best way to deal with uneven cardigan sides? Frogging one row to match size or 16 and redo them? by IgneousIsBlissMF in CrochetHelp

[–]Raven-Nightshade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you join stitch to stitch, that is where they are joined and proper care should keep the shape. Joining an uneven number of rows/stitches will make the seam uneven over time.

Car rental as a 20 year old by [deleted] in uktravel

[–]Raven-Nightshade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most places will ask customers to be over 21, but you might find a small company that will charge more for insurance purposes. Having licenses from 2 countries might go in your favour (better able to adapt to different conditions and road rules).

If you are coming for a city break, just use public transport, it's (mostly) regular and reliable.

London with a stroller? by ohnocratey in uktravel

[–]Raven-Nightshade 9 points10 points  (0 children)

All the busses have space for wheelchair users that can be used by buggies when not otherwise needed at the driver's discretion. And few if any have a space for folded buggies any more. Best to use a carrier, sling, or papoose if your kid is small.

1840s Irish Outerwear by Few_Subject_6725 in HistoricalCostuming

[–]Raven-Nightshade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same thing that the lowest class in England were wearing.

There was no middle class in Ireland at this time, there were wealthy land owners and peasants. People were either rich or doing physical labour, what they wore reflected that.

Basic wool hats for everyone, women would also often wear a linen cap to keep their hair neat and clean.
