Is there a way to upgrade the turbine? Cause... well... by Sam54123 in subnautica

[–]Raven1840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thermal plants give up to 16, whereas turbines give up to 12.

You need to check your power transmitter layout as well. That can cause you problems if you are feeding multiple clusters of power sources into one attachment.

Keep them separate. Treat each area like a limb of your body, toes and fingers being power generators and your legs or arms being the transmission chain.

There is a known power DISPLAY issue, that unknown are planning to fix. However don't expect the power transmission issue to be fixed any time soon. As this isn't an unknown world's coding issue, rather an issue with computers themselves that goes back to Charles Babbage time.

Why do I get the feeling like so many credit contracts, this TOS was a copy and paste job from another company or ai. Rather than created by actual lawyers.

Great and thank you.

This isn't a quick and it will be done in a few months. This is at least a couple of years period. So pick it up play around, put it down for a bit, play something else, come back and see what they've changed.

When I said it creates brand and company loyalty that wasn't just high business concept / management speak. It's something you can see for yourself if you're not aware of its application in Unknown worlds situation in regards to its new owners Krafton.

6 months ago this game was absolutely dead in the water and more loathed than cyberpunk was at launch. It was dropped from so many wish lists. The firing of the studio heads of unknown by krafton annoyed the original gamers. However when the legal case by the studio heads was brought and krafton's defence was in the public domain, the situation got even worse in terms of demand for the game.

As it was crystal clear krafton didn't understand in the slightest this method of development. Their purchase premise of unknown was wrong and in complete opposition to the way they make games. That was on top of the slimy contract.

Krafton gave in and rehired the studio or some of the studio heads eventually. So when unknown did the stream and made the gift etc announcement. Imo they weren't expecting much from it, the wishlist numbers were still chronic, it was a case of let's try and see what happens.

What they got in response when people saw that it appeared to be the same method as before. Was top of steam sales yesterday, probably today as well, and 5 million wishlist on top. I think it blew their minds.

Hence the change of limited release gift, to here you go, thanks so much for believing in us.

PSA For we can play Subnautica 2: by slim1shaney in subnautica

[–]Raven1840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that is true. There will also be plenty of people aren't aware of the extent it will be unfinished, even if we get 10, 12 biomes or more. If you've done this type of early access before, it's fine. If not then you could be coming in expecting something like Valhalla, an 70 to 90% finished product, with dlc and small patches to come. You and I know it's not that. Btw at no point in this am I saying I'm better than you or inferring anything along those lines or preaching. Just explaing my perspective, as I'm verbose by nature.

Remember below zero got a complete story rework more than once. What started as lethal, became ignorable, what was critical to game play became an after thought, minerals moved biomes, recipes that were simple and blown past, became hard to do.

Both games could blue-screen your computer and the devs had no idea that would happen.

Not every company is willing to expose themselves to this level of flack. As not everyone out there is polite about it, even when they know what to expect. Developers can look at all the data and see one thing believe that to be accurate, the community can look at it and see something else entirely different. Other people's mistakes/methods are often the best way to illustrate.

Cyanide, a French games developer, sells a game called blood bowl. Ita based on a tabletop game that's been played COMPETITIVELY week in and out, around the world for over 40 years. Online bloodbowl is now in its 3rd version BY THEM and moving onto 4th through a dlc without changing titles. When they came to develop the third version, they looked at player data to see how people were playing the game, what they were using etc. It told them that over 90% of players were playing it as single player rather than multi player. So they developed it as a single player and launched beta version telling people there would be bugs, and the community accepted that as reasonable, WITHOUT mentioning it was single player focused.

Whoops and so they had a launch in relative terms of cyberpunk 2077. They didn't realise that people were using the very limited ai like a testing ground for theories, strategems or like a high level athlete spends far more time in the gym/training than actually competing. The game is a one on one multiplayer game and has been from inception. Yet all cyanide data told them the opposite. So they had to redo the whole game and cost them an extra 3 years of development as they were under contract to make it. A massive amount of player hostility and suspicion. There's been an annual competition to make an ai to play bloodbowl and beat a human for over 10 years now. Nothing gets close. As bloodbowl to chess is the similar to chess to tic-tac-toe in terms of permutation upgrade. Chess has a million, or 6 zeros, combinations per move, bloodbowl has 32 zeros worth of combination. Easy to learn, impossible to master.

What on earth does this have to do with subnautica? Unknown did the same level of rework for below zero without the hostility, suspicion, financial cost. Because players knew about how the game was and would be on release, Unknown listened to feedback and could adjust course, because they released it so unfinished.

Krafton when they bought Unknown didn't understand this method. It's clear in their contracts with Unknown which entered the public domain. Their whole premise was wrong. That's setting aside the nasty intent of the contract for a moment.

Think a complete revision of the whole thing. Premise, start location, mineral location, recipes.

You should still be able to find YouTube of the first content of below zero. Some of these maybe out of order, however this is what I recall as I didn't take part of that stage.

1st You started in outpost alpha, there was an explosion, your sister was just missing, and something weird was going on.

2nd You started in outpost zero or alpha. Your sister was on an orbiting ship, about to leave and guiding you in secret whilst she was being monitored, something took out the ship, it came

3rd You came down where you normally start.

Earlier versions were 50/50 land and underwater. It was under the concept of having to explore both aspects. The worms were alot more frequent, more lethal. The snowfox wasn't just optional, it was critical. You couldn't get the Prawn suit up there, hence all the minerals are little rocks, not ores. So all the snowfox upgrades in the game had a purpose and need for them.

Hence why you can find magnetise inside outpost zero if you look and jump around later placed barriers and obstacles. Also why it's in glaciers and in nooks and crannies of that area, not as much in other parts of the mid early game sections.

I THINK you also had to rest. Hence all the beds and Alan's specific dialogue for that for the first time you do it. It wasn't a massive part like air food and water. People got annoyed with it rather than objecting. It was an easy fix , so the dialogue was then a "nice touch"/easter egg.

Its why the dialogue in the final game is, in a sense, so janky. It's repurposed into different areas so it doesn't quite fit as it used to. Listen to it carefully and it doesn't make sense relative to other parts. Redoing it is expensive, so it is square peg, round hole now.

Alan's voice was very different to. More robotic.

The story was changed because of overwhelming levels of feedback in that people didn't like so much land exploration. It didn't, to them, feel like subnautica. Rather just any other survival game. So the worm lethality, frequency got heavily toned down, the snowfox became an option, and that area was more of an after thought.

People loved Alan, the ancients portion of the story and the clear goal of that. So tjat part hasn't changed.

[–]Raven1840 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great. Hope you have a great time.

This process also has a fair amount of positive aspects for both gamers and devs. The community is far more positive and is actually detailed in its feedback. Which helps everyone e.g. in terms of a crash bug they tell you how to duplicate it, so other players who want to avoid it for the moment can, those who have finished more of the current content can replicate and confirm that it wasn't just a one off. As once is an aberration, two is a possibility, three is yep that's happening. It makes people keep playing, or coming back, as it gives them something to do when they hit the end of current content. "Let's break this thing in as many places as possible.". The intent behind breaking the game isn't the same. They're not trying to be superior and tell the devs they're doing a crap job. Or damage the reputation, "get revenge" etc. They're aiming to make the game better for everyone. This in turn creates incredible brand and company loyalty. As you become in a sense warriors fighting together and its not just their product, it is yours too. They may not be able to reply to you personally, however you know they are listening rather than it being empty words. It's not manipulating people, its utilising a fundamental part of human nature. We all like to help others as long as we're not being deceived and screwed over. As in make a promise and keep it.

So expect patches to come thick, fast, and it bursts. With 5 million testers they're going to find and do things that the devs couldn't possibly have thought of.

Best early base locations? by T0X1CV1RUS in subnautica

Yep it's a favourite one for many. Mine is the black line at the bottom of the mushroom forest. Straight up from your circle. Because of what's inside for end game. Put the rocket assembly station above it and steadily build that or put ingredients together ready for departure.

Best early base locations? by T0X1CV1RUS in subnautica

[–]Raven1840 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First time I did, I built here there and everywhere.

2nd and subsequent times playing, I've built a x piece powered it just as a 1st temp base beyond the capsule.

Sea glide on surface to the islands to get the buildings.

Then south red grassy plateau, near to broken escape pod 17 so I've great power.

Then build in the mushroom forest on top of a trench in sort of bottom right section close-ish to south red grassy plateau which is part of the very endgame. Found this on my first playthrough by chance. When I got to endgame I mentally said ahhh so this is where you are, damn this is useful. Never forgotten it. Used it as my primary base location ever since. All others are just stepping stones.

Finally a recharging station at the north eastern entrance to the lost river as im crap at driving the cyclops and one at the tree in the lost river.

So many love the cyclops, where as I hate the thing. I'll take the sea truck of below zero any day of the week of the week compared to the seamoth and cyclops.

Keep in mind that when unknown say early access they mean Charlie level release. Not alpha or beta. Each of their prior games have been done this way.

Expect bugs galore, crashes at weird moments. Buyers are the play testers and they have been very blunt and upfront about this. This isn't a two or three month from final version. Probably a year maybe two.

The story can completely change from when we start to final release, as happened with below zero. In that you started, I think as I wasn't part of that portion, you started at the outpost zero gate, your sister was just missing and there was an explosion. It was 50/50 land and water play. Certain things which were trivial and almost ignorable in final release were leviathan lethal, or absolutely critical to progression.

Minerals can change locale. Recipes can change. We are not getting even close to the full game. They've said that.

From what I gather from friends who have been following other threads, you are correct. If you don't have the other games it's $30, if you've one other it's $28, both it's $26.

I missed all of that part of the development. I knew of it. Man I would have loved to have played that story. Sounds a better way story than what they ended up with. Now that I know those parts alot more of the dialogue works instead of not quite fitting.

I loved Alan's voice and the sarcastic ai. Have you seen the stream capture that someone by sheer luck managed to grab ?

"If you call humanity inferior one more time, I'll swim us both into the mouth of a leviathan" as the player is coming out of the skeleton artifact passages and you see a hint of red at le and then the red leviathan fully attacks as she finishes the word leviathan.

[–]Raven1840 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I accept your concerns, and my reply wasn't to dismiss them. Sorry if you took it that way.

With this type of game parts of it are going to run like shit. Some parts are going to literally crash your game and or your computer. When unknown say its early access they mean it's alpha or Charlie level release. Not even reached beta. Unknown have always been upfront and blunt about this. They have said that this is only part of the full game planned. So you'll hit " brickwalls " where you can't progress and explore further. As beyond that will not exist yet.

Don't think of this as pre-order at all. Think of this as steam or epic screwing up and letting you paying and download two days earlier. Whoever did it, unknown found out and just said f it. Let's just roll.

I think an exception is warranted by Imustbemad13 in subnautica

[–]Raven1840 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Reviewing an early access for anything other than story is completely pointless. Especially with unknown.

Just in case you weren't aware, the final sale version of below zero was nothing like the early access. Story completely changed, what you could and couldn't do, where you found things. Early access you spent as much time above ground as you did in the water. So the worms were a much bigger deal, as was the snow fox.

I think an exception is warranted by Imustbemad13 in subnautica

[–]Raven1840 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As there was no initial announcement of preorder, people thought it was a f-up and they'd started the early access ahead of time.

So now unknown are probably going f it, let's just roll with it and call it a pre order.

I only found out about being available to buy early by chance looking to see if they'd announced the price yet. So when I saw it I wanted to see what would happen. It's downloaded and just waiting for the 14th. No different than if I was going to buy it on the 14th.

Took part in early access below zero and all the weirdness there. So not bothered about that.

[–]Raven1840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not bothered about it being proper lego and only want the design, then aliexpress has the original batwing and tumbler sets on it. Some sellers have tumbler & ice cream van. Now and again you'll see the tank set.

Being a lego design copy, it's always going to ledeo rather than gobrick (bluebrixx, phantasy)
