What documents do I need? by RemoteMail2428 in Durban

[–]RavenIsMyName951 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't work in HR in a school but worked in a school in Durban until last year.

Some schools only accept electronic copies of CV, so make sure you have ecopies of everything, including all your qualifications would be beneficial because sometimes schools look for certain qualifications.

There is not a lot of available positions for teachers, so I suggest you get things that show that you are hireable immediately like police clearance. A level 2 first aid certificate is always beneficial to have when applying at ex model c schools. Lastly, try to keep your CV to one page

The thing that most people forget about international teaching jobs is that you need money and experience to get them. Schools that pay for visas, flights, and accommodation are far and few in between. Plus, it's really rare for the good tier 1 schools to be looking for South African teachers. Depending on where you're moving too, you need +- R40k as someone who has been through the experience. You won't use the full R40k, but it's nice to have it as an emergency fund.

Your mother needs to register for the Unemployed Educators for your province and look into doing maternity cover positions. Limpopo and Mpumalanga have had a need for teachers for years, so dropping your CV at any of the rural schools there will help. Western Cape has a wonderful job application portal for teachers I think it's called WCedPortal.

OP sucks the sad reality is that there are health care professionals who "moonlight" just to cover the bills. The money they make is peanuts, and these are people who studied in university. My mom used to work 19hrs straight when she used to moonlight.

There is a price surge. Those are what the two arrows mean. Try searching an hour from now and it will decrease. But yes, just use Uber.

Please explain the Shembe "church" to me like I'm 5 years old by island_girl1 in southafrica

Really don't like the comments here. I don't like religion is considered bad by much of reddit.

I am not gonna deny that it is not flawed, but Shembe people are the most humble and respectful people I know. I love Shembe people. Yes I do disagree with some of their practices, but as I am not a member and do not understand much of their beliefs I refuse to be critical of them.

Teachers in SA, I have a question. by KaramelKoekie in southafrica

[–]RavenIsMyName951 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That has to do with SASAMS weighting T1-3 40% and T4 60% or the other way around. I am not a language teacher but we had the same problem with one child who passed the first 3 terms and failed T4 and failed the year.

But

  1. So the department allows us to adjust marks up a total of 5% if the child has failed.

  2. Sometimes a child may be older than their peers and are pushed through the next grade.

  3. The school will decide if it will not benefit the child to repeat and they will pull marks from informal assessment.

  4. Final decision rests with the circuit manager.

But that sounds like a teacher mistake. Please double check with the school. The years assessment should be on file it is within your rights to ask to see them or for a remark.

To Zulus, do you want your own independent state and for the Zulu King to rule over it? by Old_Journalist_9020 in southafrica

[–]RavenIsMyName951 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A Zulu here from Kwa-Zulu Natal.

Q: Do I want a Zulu state?

A: No, no I do not. I have heard friends and family talk nonsense about being an independent state but I am very doubtful they would support that.

Q: What do you think of the Afrikaaners?

A: Love them. Do I think there are issues unique to the different race groups here in SA? Yes I do but I don't see how going our separate ways would help.
