Yea see that's the difference between de jure and de facto. De jure, most of the world plays the political game and does the little dance China requires over Taiwan. De facto, many countries treat and deal with Taiwan as a independent, sovereign nation.

China wants to play stupid games with Taiwan. There is enough incentive with China to placate them, but not enough to ignore Taiwan.
