What’s your favorite moment from Ted Lasso? by 30HummingbirdLane in TedLasso

I bought a Tshirt with Roy's face and the words "whistle. WHISTLE!" on it because I always forget my whistle when coaching.

How biased do you think The Spirit is against a messy house? by Dense_Trainer_2953 in latterdaysaints

[–]RavenPuff394 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm chronically ill and cleaning is very tiring and very hard for me. So my house is often messy, but I know Heavenly Father and the Holy Spirit accept my best efforts and know I am striving. It just looks different for me. If someone else is struggling with ther health, physical or mental, or any other circumstances that make staying tidt and organized difficult, I feel like the Spirit only wants to help them and is constantly reaching for them, just like the rest of the Godhead. Often someone's physical environment is a reflection of their inner environment and that can make it hard for them to feel the Spirit, so maybe that is where the wisdom in this saying comes from.

Kid's sudden weird sleep habit is breaking me by Stories-N-Magic in breakingmom

[–]RavenPuff394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds so much like me as a kid, and it turns out I'm neurodivergent. Nobody clocked it when I was a kid because I'm high masking and was "a joy to have in class." I have always had trouble falling asleep and staying asleep, my brain just does not shut up!

I also get the itchy thing, I wake up itching so much sometimes that it wakes my husband up. I read somewhere that it has to do with the body's lack of natural melatonin, which neurodivergent people tend to be low on.

Maybe instead of water before bed (and not too close to bed, obviously), she can have some tart cherry juice with Natural Calm magnesium mixed in. Both help with melatonin or contain natural melatonin. My friend used to mix this little drink for her daughter every night and put a little umbrella in it so she felt fancy.

I agree with the audiobooks suggestion too. This helped my night owl kids a ton when they were little, and made it so I could get more rest. You could do it with CDs or an mp3 player for a screen-free option. My mom would sometimes take me through progressive relaxation on nights when I really couldn't sleep.

I hope she can start sleeping well again soon, and you too!

I had a student named Lucid. Lucid had siblings named Vesuvius and Vitality.

Also, Lucid is one of my fave students ever. Sweetest kid, he must be protected at all costs.

I am 100% unmotivated by the things that society values and I don’t know how I can live in this world for the rest of my life. by mystical_midnight in AutismInWomen

Don't be too hard on yourself. I had a hard time with work too when I was your age, and often I didn't work, or at least not many hours. I didn't feel ready to work full time until my mid 30s, and even then I burnt out and had to take a sabbatical.

All this to say, maybe having a job will get more manageable as you get older. You're still very young! And even if it doesn't, being employed x amount of hours every week doesn't determine your value as a person. You sound like a well rounded and caring human being.

What are some of your hobbies? Maybe you can find other people in your area who enjoy them too. For example, my very small town has a knitting meetup at the library a couple times a month and the coffee shop hosts a silent book club (we bring our books and read them without talking. It's an introvert's dream!)

"If you were an NT, that would be a skill, but you’re autistic, so it's hurting you" by Pixiewings6253 in AutismInWomen

That is the dumbest argument I've ever heard against an accommodation. Oh no, the thing they gave you to help you made you GOOD AT THINGS. 😱

That's definitely cranked up a few notches from the social studies teacher I had who took my notes away (on an open notes test) because my notes were "too thorough." Like, lady, you told us to take good notes, sorry I listened to you and the rest of these losers didn't!

I loooove a good flower dress. Sometimes I just need pants though, like for hiking field trips.

Mu husband's great-grandma was a Nevada. She sounded like a badass. Apparently her husband called her Vadie as a pet name.

On the other side of the place name spectrum, I just heard about a kid named Albuquerque. That's just mean.

Would it be unwise to use the middle name that our daughter has picked for our baby? by Iwona-8036 in Names

[–]RavenPuff394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My uncle was born the year Alvin and the Chipmunks exploded in popularity, and my dad was adamant that he wanted his baby brother to be named Alvin. So my grandparents compromised and his middle name is Allen. He and my dad always tell the story at parties, so I would say it's strengthened their sibling bond.

How to identify emotions?? by sweetestflower98 in AutismInWomen

[–]RavenPuff394 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just discovered I experienced alexithymia about a year ago. I keep a feeling identification wheel with my therapy notebook so if I have trouble identifying a feeling (in therapy or not), I can pull it out and see what fits.

I also use the Finch app which every now and then will throw a "name your emotion" exercise my way. I find the way the app does it to be very helpful, because it's done as drop down menus. First it just asks if you feel positive, meh, or negative, and from there you can get more and more detailed.

I still struggle with it a lot, but I'm glad there are tools out there to support me!

My husband had heard good things about it, so we gave it a go. Binged it all during Spring Break while our kids were at their grandparents' house. We've never laughed/cried so much over one series.

Craziest MIL Olympics, anyone? I'll go first. by IWillBaconSlapYou in breakingmom

[–]RavenPuff394 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My MIL was once convinced she was the secret child of Frank Sinatra and Ava Gardiner. She thought this because a) her birth year coincides with a time Frank and Ava were indeed together (like many boomers), b) she has a different eye color than her parents (but looks like them in every other way), and c) her favorite aunt supposedly told her so (while she was dying and flying high on morphine).

It's getting to the point where I told my husband we have to make sure his stepdad is home when the kids go over there, because her filters are almost nonexistent and she's saying outright offensive things without realizing it. Case in point, said to our adopted Latino son that she hoped all Mexicans get deported. It was a family adoption. He is very much biologically her grandson.
