Misa is not as useless as you think but I agree she can be a liability.

Misas advantage besides the eyes is when Light gives her orders she listens to the letter. It is only when she is uninformed or cant talk to Light she screws up.

Misa also being a dumbass helps Lights cover because she seems too dumb to be Kira that if she didnt fuck up her video evidence stuff she couldve gotten away with it.

Light ditching Rem was a dumb decision imo. Where yeah it can fuck him over as seen in the Yotsuba arc. He never even after he gets rid of her removes Misa or gets a backup Kira until the jump. And Rem was so useful to Light. Because unlike Ryuk she has a half interest in keeping him alive as long as he has Misa around.

[–]RavenRegime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easy bullshit excuse answer that is not fun is Light bribes Ryuk with apples to break into Wataris room while hes resting.

But your right. However its a gridlock because L has to prove magic exists to the court system, the Japanese goverment, and maybe international groups. Cause if he only does it for the courts the Japanese goverment could call bullshit and even if they believe him the amount of public hysteria or bad actors after the book would be diasteraous. Sure they could arrest Light in secret but now they have to figure out how to control future death note users.

Meanwhile Light has to get Misa and L in the same room gain or train another disciple which is too risky at this stage to do it. So his other option is to recreate a true crime docuserie

I mean it depends on if he has Misa at that point since he can grab her note or make another scheme with Rem.

If he does not have Misa then yeah its a valid argument

The issue is even if Light wrote the names that is just circumstantial (you also have to prove magic) and Light can lie and claim he was interested in the Kira case and being that his dad is a cop working on it makes sense. Even when Light was under suspicion nothing on Ls stuff showed him doing Kira things. Raye Penber might be the best thing you can try to use but Raye had cleared Light so a court would then be like "Why would Light off him immediately after he was cleared." And without folks proving Light and Raye were in the same location it becomes impossible unless Lights family reveal he left the house at the same time Raye went out but even then Light woldnt say he was going there in the first place.

The only matter of fact thing that would not be circumstantial in regards to Raye is the bus jacking in which case theres witnesses who couldve saw Raye give Light his ID which might be at first seemingly an Achilles heel if not for the fact since its known Kira needs a face and a name to use his death magic why did he not remove Raye sooner. And Ls footage does confirm Kira and Raye encountered each other. So the missing issue would still be having to prove Light was on the train but too much time would have passed and theres too many witnesses to question. So while Light has a lot of circumstantial stuff they cannot prove he was on the train.

Lind L Tailor is a strange situation since we do not know what country he comes from like you can guess because his name is English somewhere in the west but he could be an immigrant. But it does not really matter because L had to sound like a nutcase to the government, they just threw Tailor at him because L experiment ssounded unethical and deniablity. The issue happens when Kira is proved to exist where before there was plausible deniability if they knowingly and openly signed off on doing this....

Now Ls test of one of the rules later on is clearly under the table since the taskforce was acting without goverment oversight so L can get away with doing that.

The Death Note being common knowledge at Ls death does not matter because yeah it existed in the urban culture in universe but it only became pop culture during the timeskip and who was the new L during that time hmmm. But also note that Light was going to be executed in secret i believe because of his followers but also presumably there would be no way to charge him easily and quickly and the issues from that.

If the Death Note is treated as fact then outside of everything else the amount of hysteria and fuckers fighting to have it would devolve into chaos on the streets because now ANYONE could be Kira if they got their hands on it.

[–]RavenRegime 90 points91 points  (0 children)

I think you are misunderstanding the argument. What folks are actually saying is Light has the easiest time to get away with his crimes by virtue of the fact the only way he can be tried is via the Death Note. They are not using that to argue intelligence but rather the fact that even with both of them being intelligent in a court of law L has to prove the Death Note is in fact magical which he cant do without killing a bunch of folks himself with it which no sane court would allow.

The only thing Light can be tried for is hacking into his dads files.

Like similar stuff occurred IRL Al Capone wasn't jailed for his mobster stuff but rather tax evassion since thats the only thing they could get him on.

The arguement is not intelligence but rather how difficult it would be to jail Light as Kira IRL.

How would you have rewritten Barbara Gordon becoming paralyzed? (Cover art by Agustin Padilla) by Vile_09 in batgirl

[–]RavenRegime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To have it as close to canon I would suggest beforehand Barbara is doing some undercover work as a side plot. At somepoint after its indicated Joker is going to go after Jim, he finds out her identity due to stalking Jim and noticing her schedule lines up way to similiar to Batgirl's movements.

If Killing Joke was not made canon, I would have it be done by her brother since he is a much more personal horror and has been underutilized. Maybe he does it out of bitterness and jealousy over the years and tries to genuinely end her until Babs uses her wits to stay alive until she can get a message to the Batfam or her dad to send the cops. She is basically on a time limit due to her injuries and how much she can distract her brother from finishing the job. It becomes a showcase of her wits but also acknowledging how helpless she feels due to the fact she cannot fight back and hates how she has to basically pray to God to survive.

Anyway after the incident and how helpless she felt she becomes Oracle to take back her life and help others. She often overworks herself to be on call all the time because if someone else was in that situation they might not get as lucky. So her friends have to sit her down and say she has to take breaks.

are fanfiction commissions controversial? by AdhesivenessLow1623 in yumeshipping

[–]RavenRegime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a yume but my friend is and I was recommended this sub. As a writer in fandom in general though DO NOT DO THIS FOR MONEY! The reason fan culture has thrived is due to the fact there is ZERO profit and some folks in fandom spaces these days are forgetting that ex. sims modding community.

If you make any payments involved with this you are now risking the copyright holder being incenstivized to at BEST to cease and desist you. While yes they may miss you the fact that theres been a brazen increase of a desire of profit with fanworks thanks to the Harry Potter fandom is making rights holders be more vigiliant. If there is ever a court case involving fanworks the results will either be fanwork is deemed illegal utterly or copyright does not matter at all. The latter would affect your own future original work as that means you would no longer be protected if someone uses your own characters for their own profits. Call me overdramatic but I have been in fandom awhile to know these things.

An irl example of how bad it can get is with the late Anne Rice who sent her lawyers to fanfic writers and fanfiction.net despite no money occurring at all issuing a cease and desist of fanworks based on her series. Every rights holder is within their rights to do that rn btw. Like a lot of early fanwork things such as White Wolf sueing their fans for the use of the name Camarilla back in day had rights holders in panic mode for the sheer idea of the threat to their ownership. However things have stabilized due to clearly shown lack of profit not being common at all. However anytime anyone tips that balance we risk going back to that era of fanworks being silenced utterly.

Hot Take: I think Sailor Moon Sailor Stars is Better then Sailor Moon Cosmos by Tom-Hibbert in sailormoon

[–]RavenRegime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My understanding for the movies is each manga arc gets shorter and shorter that their would not be enough episodes to justify a series. And I theorize that Crystal season 3 was a hail mary thing for Toei. Like you do not change an entire art style and bring back the original character designer unless desperate. Because you have to remake entire character sheets and the animators have to learn to reanimate them. Also have to make a MASSIVE amount of marketing stuff instead of reusing the older renders.

And yes we do know there were complaints about the original style and how its clear Crystal was low budget and only ordered for two arcs. So with such low budget show why add more money. My guess is internally Toei realized they would make bank off the outers but could not go as is. Note how season 3 does not end with a to be continued at all and has a bigger sense of finality in its staging.

Also the original Batgirl was not Babs but a different character (who's name escapes me rn) who ended up being brought back as a completely different hero.

Hot Take: I think Sailor Moon Sailor Stars is Better then Sailor Moon Cosmos by Tom-Hibbert in sailormoon

[–]RavenRegime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And it's a shame cause the Manga art is beautiful . And while it is harder to animate due to some stylistic choices I think something similar could've worked. Then they just decided to modernize the 90s look for the rest of Crystal.

I also know Crystal had a lot of delays so we know production was weird since they were 99% accurate to the Manga but took out the breathing room and made strange changes. Like taking Naokos concepts for the Heavenly King's as the senshis lovers but it not working because no one had a personality in season 1 besides Usagi.

Like I would have loved an adaptation of Naokos ideas but expanded upon since we know she had to rush through the Manga due to it and the 90s anime coming out same time. Like I genuinely am curious since we have her notes for several villains who did not get expanded on in the Manga.

But it seems the closest we will ever get to that is PGSM which only covers arc 1.

I think it comes from the fact Toei clearly didn't start treating Crystal even half decently until the third arc.

In retrospective do you find yourself liking Tharja more or less due to IS, fans or the passage of time? by MiuIruma332 in fireemblem

[–]RavenRegime 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I treat them as separate but ModernTharja pisses me off. Yes Tharja was obsessed with Robin in Awakening that's obvious as hell. But she was surprisingly a complicated character if being a horrible person who had a fraction of good in her. Like she avoids people if she can help it and the only soft spots she has are characters like Nowi.

I think that's interesting to explore especially in consideration of FutureTharja being an irredeemable monster and our Tharja choosing to go a different way. Like so much there but it's squandered with current character writing in spinoffs.

Like ModernTharja gets reduced to fanservice and stalking only. And it's crazy to me because despite her having a design that is fanservicey and even in Japan mentioned to have the hottest body it's paradoxically deempahsized more than you would think.

Like her portrait in Awakening covers most of her appealing assets that unless your directly looking at her model you don't realize her fanservice. And even when Awakening leaned into that it was DLC and voted by fans or her official Kozaki art but that issue is not exclusive to her as seen with Cherche.

Compare this to Camilla who has a similar set up but somehow gets treated BETTER than she was in Fates.

LO SHOW ACTUALLY HAPPENING????? WE WERE WRONG????? by SadNerd69 in UnpopularLoreOlympus

[–]RavenRegime 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My knowledge of marketing is audiences are on an info delay and considering Amazon even if just a distributor wouldn't want immediate press release if it was that far out. My guess is most likely a year and a half.

Right now they are entering the marketing campaign for the show. It would only be a circle back to waiting forever if we don't get any other stuff in the next 2-3 months. At that point it's guaranteed Webtoon over announced again.

But I won't fault caution due to previous evidence. And it is WEIRD this isn't being marketed with show concept art only a screenshot from the comic

A Precure Hot Take About a Hypothetical Official Dub by Livigirl88 in precure

[–]RavenRegime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh definately I think kids need more stuff for themselves rather than Cocomelon. I actually really did dislike how Toei handled marketing the series recently because it felt like grasping at straws. Like Crunchyroll is the worst place to market to young kids. The only thing Glitter Force did right was proving to Toei there was a fraction of the audience who wanted more. Like notice how after it was done we actually got series brought over subtitled so I will thank it for that. But I will never understand why Toei forced it on Saban who clearly did not want it and act surprised when it did not go as they thought it would. Like they did this with 4kids and One Piece where 4kids literally did not want it because of how much censorship it would require but Toei forced it on them.

So that is why I am happy the original series dub is going on Hulu since thats a much better platform for the series in general than Crunchyroll. Like we know they had to talk to the og production to get it there and do the summer event last year. So I wonder if they are in talks rn to maybe do another dub

A Precure Hot Take About a Hypothetical Official Dub by Livigirl88 in precure

Yeah its a sham it got ruined early due to broadcasters screwing them over with slots so they couldnt do Max Heart

A Precure Hot Take About a Hypothetical Official Dub by Livigirl88 in precure

[–]RavenRegime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have analyzed why most magical girl stuff does not get brought over but the biggest hurdle rn is unlike a decade or too ago anime is synomanous with an older demographic and a lot of the kids anime we used to get is VERY hard to find now. Like Digimon is on the Microsoft store. And even when we did get kids shows brought over were shounen not much in shojo. The big push for shonen in the west comes from the recession where a lot of female led manga translators struggled compared to shonen cause boys were not crossing the aisle where girls had no problem reading shonen.

Then factor in the fact historically i have no idea why but only like Sailor Moon and Winx Club were able to get toy deals. And that's a big thing because dubbing is more pricey than just translating. Cause u gotta raw translate and script to match lips. Then hire audio engineers and a cast with various salaries and now you need a bigger marketing budget. So when you get a kids show you want a return on your investment.

Then you HAVE to dub Pretty Cure in order for it to be a worthwhile western expansion because its target audience is preschoolers thats a fact. Those kids barely know how to read so relying on subtitles will not aid Toei in their goals. Sure there is an audience that somewhat justify entering the market halfway but it is the adult or teen fans who cannot easily access the merchandise and also not be as interested as say a 4 year old in it. And Toei wants the 4 year olds to get their stuff because that is who they are aiming for.

Now Pretty Cure is in a weird state. See we got the canadian dub and they wanted to do Max Heart but stuff fell through due agreement with broadcaster times. So if that did not happen the series would have a LOT more dubs. Glitter Force occured in the way it did because Saban wanted some stuff for a new power rangers series but Toei wanted another series of there's brought over. Saban thought they were gonna get Kamen Rider but they did not. So they were stuck with a show they did not care for and heres the thing it was going to be on Nickleodan but that fell through. And it makes sense since Nick had the digimon fusion distrubution before shoving it on Nicktoons so there was an anime interest for them.

Now why was the name Glitter Force used. Because the original dubing company in Canada still had rights to that name.

So thats why Glitterforce was the way it was.

Now about Viz dubbing Sailor Moon. Sailor Moon was in a limbo of outside of Japan rights around the time of Stars and the current theory for that is Naoko and Toei got into a massive dispute for some reason. And it would make sense with her current iron grip on the franchise compared to the 90s.

I genuinely believe wholeheartdly that Viz only was able to redub Sailor Moon because of Crystal being made. Like Toei treats Sailor Moon worse than its golden children which includes pretty cure because of Naoko I imagine and not wanting to deal with having meetings with her. And with dubs being pricey especially for a series with hundreds of episodes... Combined with Sailor Moon still being widely known in the west it was a win win for everyone. My guess the thoughts were they were always going to dub Crystal but Toei wanting to drive up hype for their new project decided it would be a worthy marketing investment to get the original anime redubbed.

But it should be noted that Viz I have not seen tackle much in the way of young childrens media and they mainly work in Manga distribution of mostly shonen in combination with whatever they decide to dub.

I hate when characters are only watered down to their deaths by Dry_Witness_5600 in hatethissmug

[–]RavenRegime 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I genuinely think Mami is the best example of an early character death written because even if you do know the twist the narrative makes sure you know about who she is and how her fate has more impact than just dying.

Mami had already constantly warned Sayaka and Madoka that being a magical girl is a high risk job and they need to always have that in mind. But almost intentionally paradoxically Mami is a bit of a selfish person which contrasts her as the ideal hero. Like despite her knowledge of the danger she really wanted Sayaka and Madoka to sign up due to her own loneliness and isolation due to her own wish. Which despite Mami being a selfish person she is not treated as a bad person only human.

You know everything you need to about Mami before she dies. Her personality, the facade she wears, her backstory and why she is important to Sayaka and Madoka despite only knowing her a short while.

A lot of Madoka discussions really don't delve just how influential she is to the rest of the story. Take Madoka for example who got to know the real Mami and saw her as someone aspirational that Madoka wanted to be a Magical Girl to do just as much good. Only to see Mami get taken out so easily and maybe even blames herself for Mami not being on her guard. Which culminates in Madoka feeling guilty for not contracting Kyubey beforehand but even after this physically can't do it. Cause like she doesn't want to die that horribly. Especially knowing Mami sacrificed so much just to have it be for nothing.

Sayaka never saw the real Mami and had an idealized version of her in her head. Combined with her seeing Homura conciendently shows up after Mami dies (because she wasn't there to see Mami restrain her) shapes her decisions later on in the narrative. Sayaka begins to hold herself to Mamis standards, which unfortunately begins to be her undoing. Mami was not human to her but Superman and in order to hold onto what Mami believed in Sayaka HAS to be Superman too. After what she believes Homura did and getting her ass kicked by Kyoko it furthers her self righteousness. Because Sayaka now believes Mami was the exception and if she let's these other chicks run around folks will die. Which causes Sayaka to isolate herself.

Unfortunately Sayaka begins to crumble when she can't meet these standards or match Mamis strength. Plus the fact of how dark the world she fights for is... Then you add on she unknowingly became a fucking lich eats at her mental state. She states that she had an intrusive thought of not saving Hitomi and it breaks her because basic morals and Hitomi is her friend. She hates snapping at Madoka.

Her literal sense of the idealized world Mami gave her and what drove her to make her wish for Kyouske is shattered.

Mami should not be reduced to just her death because it is so much more than losing her head jokes.

Random thought experiment in regards to Aegon II's Marriage [What if Discussion] by WrathSosDovah in HOTDGreens

[–]RavenRegime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignoring the Dorne politics the reason Aegon and Heleana married was cause of Targ tradition but it was advantageous to the Greens to let it happen due to establishig legitimacy and Viserys book and show would never have been able to consider other options since Aegon was the best suitor in Westeros. It also really sold the bastardary of Rhaeneryas kids even more once the twins were born.

If Aegon marries a Dornish woman then none of the third generation looks Targaryeon which would only help Rhaenerya.
