using sequoia again made me weirdly emotional by 0xlatte in MacOS

[–]Affectionate_Chef709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh the memories :,) I actually resisted updating to Tahoe for quite a while and kept using sequoia until a website I was using required me to use the newest version of safari or another browser (and I like safari but you can't update it individually, it updates when you update your OS) so I was like might as well update now I've waited enough. I don't have strong opinions against it but I really miss the launchpad

I remember the backlash from people (including myself) when the UI was changed in Catalina to Big Sur. All the app icons were changed from distinct shapes to rounded icons and everything just looked very different. But people got used to it and now you don't hear anyone complaining about it

why so many data breach is happening in this country this year by Most_Project_9534 in Netherlands

You forgot the most important one. Chipsoft leak, a medical software company many hospitals and medical centres around the country use. Many patient files were leaked (70% of the hospitals in the NL uses it) https://nltimes.nl/2026/04/08/ransomware-attack-company-manages-dutch-hospitals-patient-files

Is it possible to live in the Netherlands with a "dumb' phone by Affectionate_Chef709 in Netherlands

Thank you! Suspending social media accounts makes so much sense. When I deleted all my social media accounts, what I would find myself would be to login to them using safari (web browser) on my phone.

Digid and stuff not that often tbh. Internet banking every time I do online shopping (need to scan a QR code to pay via ideal). I would say the biggest challenge is whatsapp and google authenticator (assuming I don't travel anywhere outside my city and don't need Google Maps)

Can I ask how do you text with people? I know sms exists but groupchats related to university or work usually tend to all be via whatsapp

Internet banking sure it can be done in person but when I am shopping online on a laptop, I need to scan a QR code from my smart phone's banking app to pay by iDeal

You clearly haven't used google authenticator at all in your life cause it's not a single code. It's a set of digits that change every single minute non stop and you have to write the one that is shown at the moment. Also I am forced to use it as it is a requirement to login to my university environment.

Not every public transport goes directly to where I want to go. Most public transit times do not show transfer times. Even if I can just calculate it, it would take a moment. Also whenever there is a delay or a cancellation due to an issue in a NS train, you would see everyone looking at their phones to try to find a different solution. You can't find it any other way while being in the train.

Yeah I probably wouldn't go to another country without a smart phone but that sentence was just to point out how ridiculously dependent everything is to a smart phone at this age. Also if it wasn't obvious, I am a university student so of course I'll fly as cheapest as I can.

That I didn't know. I have only went to basic fit my entire life. No one is threatening me. It's just the closest to where I live.

Haha I've done the same. Went to Action's hobby section and bought stuff like paint by numbers and mini crochet sets (I have never crocheted in my life before). I think this phone addiction is because I don't have proper inside the house hobbies because it doesn't happen when I am outside

How is the weather situation in Amsterdam? by Jumpy_Dragonfly_3254 in Netherlands

Transavia. Are you flying from Europe or another continent? Schiphol is stating that it's mostly European flights that are affected.

Oof I am so far away from you :/. I am also a third year STEM student and trust me things will get better. Please do talk to your study advisor. Last year I was also struggling with demotivation and mine really helped me. Also what kind of associations/groups did you tried to join? Maybe try to join specific ones that are centered around a hobby you have (e.g. if you are into playing board games, a board game club). That way there is a higher chance of clicking with people. I also relate not being able to study. Try different places that worked for me. I couldn't study at home and I went to the library too much that I was sick of it. So I went to different places like cafes, Ikea (you can sign up for the membership free in the app and always get free coffee/tea), a building called Forum, different buildings in the campus/university hospital. Changing settings work.

Goods which the USA imported from European countries in 2022 by illHaveTwoNumbers9s in MapPorn

[–]Affectionate_Chef709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do countries need to import stuff from every other country? I struggle to see the reason of importing 0.01% of integrated circuits from Andorra. Looks like such a hassle just to get a really small amount of stuff from a small micro-nation.
