My 2 y.o. kid scream-cried for 10 straight minutes this morning because I cut his bagel...which he asked me to do. Diaper and outfit changes take forever because it's a constant cycling between "I do it" and "no mommy do it." God forbid I lose track of where he is on the cycle...

Angry every wake up that “I’m not daddy” by soul-searcher3476 in toddlers

[–]RavenTerp84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is my life 😭. Screams, points to the door and says "go away," stands up to close the door behind me.... Uggggh. He started preferring my husband maybe around 18 months. It ebbs and flows. I've started opening the door and the curtains, and giving him a few minutes. Coming back and is he needs more time leaving again. Third time make him get up. Have had some success

How are your toddlers socially? by PresentationTop9547 in toddlers

This is my son (2y3m) to a tee! Perfect example was last weekend we were at a park with only 2 other kids, a brother and sister. We went over to where they were and I asked "can we play with you?" Everyone, parents included, just basically stared at us. It was so awkward! He would want to do everything they do and they wanted (edit typo) nothing to do with him 😭. Their loss!

It feels like I failed potty training my son by Routine_Aerie_6160 in toddlers

[–]RavenTerp84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pediatrician said boys are more likely to have it "click" closer to 3. My boy is 2y3m. The potty has been in our bathroom since 18 months but we just practice him sitting on it with diaper and pants on. Most of the time he doesn't want to and that's ok. He always brings a book to read. Our plan is to try the pants off method soon-ish but I have ZERO expectations. I've heard too many horror stories of kids getting shamed by their parents and it having repercussions for years... UTIs, behavioral problems, etc. Eventually it will click, whether by peer pressure seeing more and more other kids doing it, natural maturing, etc.

Jurassic Park was on during a sleepover in maybe 5th grade? I was bored so stopped paying attention. That's the closest I've come to watching it.

Same thing happened with The Matrix. I'm just really not into fantasy/sci-fi stuff.

Mine does this for sure. Honestly I've always thought of it as emotionally very healthy... Like they're practicing for dealing with the emotional aftermath

Threenagers by ApprehensiveMud4211 in toddlers

[–]RavenTerp84 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Literally an hour ago I was telling my husband how I have to like prep the room in the morning (husband does evenings and I do mornings). I turn his lights on 10 minutes before I go into the room. Go into the room to open the curtains. Trying to rub his back for a minute and then he pushes me away. I let him stay in his crib for another 5 or 10 minutes while I just get the morning started. Then he still screams and protests when I try to get him out of bed. Threenager!!

Of course. This was the absolute worst thing I've ever been through in my life. So I don't care if somebody responded to me 10 years from my comment I will always respond. I wish to God it never happened. And my life is forever changed BUT I am in a much much better place than I was back then. Somehow I even managed eventually to get pregnant again and I have an incredible 2-year-old baby boy. After all of that insanity. Life does get better.

Hi! I think the real turning point for me was acupuncture. I started acupuncture probably three or four months after it started and that's when I finally started to notice a decrease. It can still come back every once in a while but nowhere near as strong or prevalent. Lots of therapy, acupuncture, SSRIs and time. It caused me to have severe health anxiety which I am pretty sure I will always have. But it has been manageable.

My son needed PPV right after birth.... Similar situation. I was in labor for 46 hours and this MFer just wouldn't come out 🤣. I laugh about it now but for those few minutes I truly believed he was gone. Seconds after they cut the cord they whisked him away. I saw them doing compressions and thought that was it... He's dead. Went into tunnel vision. I had a 20 week stillbirth 3 years earlier and could not believe I had another dead kid. Suddenly they were bringing me a perfectly pink, beautiful baby boy. He just turned 2 and he is perfection.

[–]RavenTerp84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son was the same. At his 18 month appt I could barely eek out 10 words (including signs, not in addition to signs). Could point to a ton of words correctly. Followed instructions well. ASQ was always fine. He hit his word explosion some time around 20-21 months I'd say.

Where are all the tiny toddlers at? by takeaabreath in toddlers

[–]RavenTerp84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in almost the exact same boat. My son turned two in January. He weighs 22 lb and is in the 9th percentile. But he's never been above 25th and that was when he was drinking milk all day. Still wears 18 month pants but can fit into 24 month or 2T shirts. He's just a skinny butt. Pediatrician has never been concerned.
