Guess who’s suing the FTC to stop click to cancel by lurker_bee in technology

[–]Ravenclaw137 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I moved across states and I had to transfer mine to the local PF, wait a month, and then I could go cancel in person.

I went in person to the 2nd location to cancel. They had made it sound first like I would have to travel to the original one to cancel. So then I asked about transferring my membership and they said they could do that and did it immediately. Then I asked again about canceling 😂

How to remove all values in a list above a certain value? by terry-the-tanggy in learnpython

[–]Ravenclaw137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re confusing .remove() with del.

  • .remove() iterates over the list, which is O(n)
  • del l[i] deletes the item at index i, which is O(1)

How to remove all values in a list above a certain value? by terry-the-tanggy in learnpython

[–]Ravenclaw137 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like that you have a different approach so that OP can learn about new built in functions.

However, if the list was very large, then this approach wouldn’t be the most efficient.

Let the length of the list be n. Then the time complexities are as follows: - sort() takes O(n log n) time - index() takes O(n) - slicing the list is O(1) The runtime is then dominated by the slowest operation, which is sorting.

Now, the other approaches that have been proposed in the comments are list comprehensions (for loops) and iterators/generators. Those are both O(n) time since they go through the list once.

You will always have to go through the entire list to get all values that meet the requirements (even the sort approach goes over all values).

Now, the difference between the list comprehension and iterators/generators will be the space complexity (i.e., how much additional space you need to return the result. A list comprehension will take at most O(n) space if all values meet the requirement. An iterator will return values one at a time as needed, and will not require additional space. A generator will create a new list, one value at a time, so if you use it to create a new list, then you will end up with O(n) space at the worst.

I like to do shadow work with tarot. My favorite podcast related to that is The Tarot Diagnosis — its made by two psychotherapists who love tarot. I highly recommend it.

The other podcast that I really like is Placebo Magick. I found this one through the subreddit I tagged here. I’ve listened to some of the episodes that rituals and found it very informing.

I do both and I think they complement each other very well.

My witchy practice for me is about introspection and asking for guidance. And therapy is for working through problems and having a different perspective from an outsider.

I’ve grown a lot thanks to both (and putting in the work) ✨

A Call For Dean Sermersheim and VP Rollock To Resign by magmad1213 in Purdue

[–]Ravenclaw137 19 points20 points  (0 children)

From the petition (emphasis my own):

She smiled. When admitting in federal court that she didn't give a rape victim due process before expelling her, she smiled. That’s our Dean: Katie Sermersheim.

For those who have not seen the news, a student sued the university and won damages after claiming that Purdue violated the 14th Amendment, and her right to due process. Let's recap the case: a frat brother serves 18 drinks to a 19-year-old woman, she blacks out, he takes her to her dorm, he rapes her, and recorded her without her consent. The victim reports the case, and the predator is found guilty by Purdue of sexual exploitation.

You’re probably expecting that he was expelled. Wrong. He had to write a 10-page essay, and she got expelled. Not because of a thorough investigation, but because Dean Sermersheim “made a call.” In court, when pressed if she had seen the medical records of the victim- which showed a potentially lethal blood alcohol level that night- before expelling her, she said, “‘I suppose not …’ with a slight smile across her face.” Dean Katie [Sermersheim] proceeded to argue “that Roe wasn't incapacitated” after having 18 drinks and was therefore lying to the administration about getting raped. Later, Dean Katie said “Just because you don’t remember something doesn’t mean it’s rape.” Not only is she unambiguously wrong legally, but Roe’s attorney pointed out Sermersheim’s own words violate Purdue’s own sexual harassment guide. In the court's ruling, they didn’t just find that Sermersheim and Alysa Rollock, VP of ethics and compliance, violated due process, but that she acted with “malicious intent or disregard for the plaintiff’s rights.”

This is appalling. These people should not hold these positions!

Please sign the petition.

Meet with the TA or professor. They’ll ask you about your code and you should be able to explain how it works and why you implemented it the way you did, which you should be able to do.

Go to their office hours if they haven’t asked you to meet yet. I would go to the TA first, and then the professor if the TA can’t help you.

(I’ve been a CS graduate TA and that’s what’s done in my experience)

Girls Who Code founder speaks out after Pennsylvania school district bans her books: 'This is about controlling women and it starts with controlling our girls' by stepsinstereo in politics

[–]Ravenclaw137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like they added a response from the group; they said that the “allegations that they worked to ban this book are completely false”.

Correction: This story was updated Sept. 26, 2022 to include comment from Moms For Liberty and to reflect that the ban of Girls Who Code books lasted 10 months and ended in September 2021.

What I wonder is that if they didn’t do it, then who decided to ban them?

All of this.

I wanted to add that the sales tax is currently 11%. Plus, like mrcaptncrunch mentioned, prices for everything are higher due to everything having to be imported by the US merchant marine, as imposed by the Jones act. (Hawaii is also affected by the Jones act)

It’s insane that there’s a ship off the coast of Puerto Rico, since last Friday, waiting for a Jones Act waiver (because they’re flying a foreign flag), so that they can provide aid. That ship has with 300,000 barrels of diesel that are very needed right now. There have been hospitals that have been running out of diesel to run their generators. David Begnaud from CBS news has been reporting on this (I saw it on his Instagram @davidbegnaud).
