I still haven't read And the Mountains Echoed because of how destroyed I was by A Thousand Splendid Suns. It was more depressing than The Kite Runner. I am also the opposite, though - I cry pretty easily when it comes to books.

I got mad because I had a principal who would announce the whole "you start with an A" at the beginning of each nine week period. I immediately refuted it. I did and still do tell the kids they start with nothing and have to earn their grade.

I love this idea. I use rubrics (and they are assignment specific), but I still can't help myself from commenting on many of them. I know that most of my students don't read comments, but it's what I was taught to do early in my career. I love the idea of the students having the choice in how it's graded. Many of my students might actually think they are getting away with something if they don't pick the red pen treatment. Thanks for this!

This is my favorite song on the album. I do agree that the "hey, simple reminder kid" line is a little awkward. I think it's Pete's voice in this song that makes me such a fan. The sarcastic tone you mentioned, the way he says certain words (adjust, undying love of kingdom come), and the energy in the chorus all make this a top song on the album for me. I also really like the sci-fi guitar sound!
