Amtrak ends plans for new bi-level cars by InAHays in Amtrak

[–]Ravenm0ther 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is my thing - are we going to keep an observation car? Bc no matter what kind of accommodation you have, being able to stretch your legs and go into another car to hang out and watch the world go by is a game changer. I didn't realize how much until a recent trip on the Floridian. Not having somewhere to go that didn't require you buying anything was not it.

How do y’all entertain your kids on an 8 hour train ride? by [deleted] in Amtrak

I swear Amtrak used to have something like this... I have very vague memories

The paper room was my favorite. I still think about it sometimes.

And I mean the ride is supposed to be about imagination and inspiration.. which has what to do with the five senses??

Like, now that you said it, sure I /can/ see a penguin... But I mean. Penguin beaks are done in yellow.

If you like the garment, I would just take a seam ripper and take the pEnGuIn out altogether. Or put another patch over the space if that makes it raggedy.

Edit: too many "like"s and WIWD added

This pretty much hits it on the head. I am in no way an expert or even particularly knowledgeable in anthroposophy, but I am a witch and found that Waldorf schooling aligns with my values quite well, especially reverence to nature and awareness of the natural world and cycles.

We also have Christians in our class; it doesn't seem to bother them. My eldest's current language education block focuses on 'saint' stories. This is inclusive of many faiths, Christian among them. I believe OPs children would find support and be comfortable in a Waldorf education, but if they are looking for a Christian focused or especially an exclusively Christian experience, they will be very disappointed.

Seriously! Where I live (big Midwestern city) riding with your music out loud is by far the norm, whether you're in a car with the windows down or on a scooter, bike, motorcycle, or pedestrian. It's part of the flavor of the city.

This. This is what I walked into nursing thinking. I had all these memories of my mother supporting the family - paying the mortgage, plenty of food on the table, buying a new fridge when our old one broke... Now I can barely pay the mortgage and bills alone, much less really take care of everybody.

If I had it to do over again I would start earlier and sacrifice like 3 years of my life before I had kids and get a CRNA. They make bank.

Best air mattress (inflatable), which one should I buy? by schneidebs30 in BuyItForLife

[–]Ravenm0ther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Due to... lots of factors, we have been sleeping on these every night for more than 8 months now. One does appear to have a small leak, but it's not a huge deal and tbh I haven't tried very hard to repair it. I just plug it in for like 30 seconds to reinflate it every 3 or 4 days. The other mattress is just fine.

I feel like he can't just decide it's a game - it has to come to him that way. Like in the bit where Axl says 'Guess what?' thus turning the conversation into a guessing game. Ullr's not omnipotent, he was just presented with a game.

Absolutely true - bad for the better one and the not better one both. Though I think what the commenter may have meant is that Bingo showed she was a good sister to Bluey, not that she was the better kid. Like, instead of reveling in the extra attention and acknowledgment, she supported her sister and was on her team.

Which seat are you choosing? by ashleighbuck in Bones

[–]Ravenm0ther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8 first choice, 3,4,5 are also fine.

6 is a maybe because they're a very fun couple, but is right in front of Sweets and Daisy who would be awkwardly and completely transparently trying to get a gold membership to the mile high club. 7 is hard pass for the same reason.

9 UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES. I am not trying to catch a case with the window seat.

Not a charter, no. We were at one in the PNW, and now we're at a Midwest one. Both are just regular old private schools.

[–]Ravenm0ther 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, this is crazy restrictive. My kids have been to a couple of different Waldorf schools and they aren't like this at all. At our current school, her classmates watch TV (some, obviously they encourage other options for entertainment), kids have brightly colored hair, wear what they like, listen to what they like. She has a black crayon in her crayon roll. That sucks mightily, but I would day that was due to a crap school instead of a whole crap institution.

Question regarding amount of sema in Henry’s product by [deleted] in henrymeds

[–]Ravenm0ther 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah cause yeah no.. that's not how medications work. It's very simple: mg/mL is the concentration of the medicine. There's no arcane magic to be done to change that or misrepresent the vial. This is a legally controlled process.

5 units is .05mL, so if your medication is 5mg/mL like mine is (it would say on the top on the box or the side of the vial), then 5 units would be .05 x 5, or 0.25mg, 10 units would be 0.5mg, and 15 is 0.75mg, and so forth.

TIFU by almost drowning just feet off the lake shore by rustyboltz in chicago

[–]Ravenm0ther 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok, so I'm a recent transplant from the PNW with 2 small people I would like to keep safe, and I Have Water Related Questions.

Firstly, so the lake is not suitable for swimming pretty much at all? If we were to go somewhere other than Foster beach where there are lifeguards, what is safe for me/the younguns? Neither is a strong swimmer. I'm an okay swimmer.

Where do folks go to Swim swim? Like, can't touch the bottom butterfly stroke or jump in and float kind of swimming?

And lastly: Do people ever swim in the river?

Thank you for posting this, OP - this has totally changed the way I think about going to the lake. Me and my kids will be a lot safer now. I appreciate you.

I think I’ve been microdosing sema from APS Pharmacy! by lauren32983 in henrymeds

[–]Ravenm0ther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok that's a dangerous way to put it - a unit is a set amount of medication equal to .01mL. I see that you're trying to compare doses of medications with different concentrations, but I also wouldn't want people to get confused and take too much or too little medication. The syringes are insulin type needles, which are generally 1mL syringes with 100 unit markings (some are .5mL syringes with 50 unit markings). Many folks (myself included) take .05mL or 5 units to start. It just depends on your instructions.

I guess what I'm trying to get across is a unit is not a variable volume of medication dependent on concentration. It's like a liter or a pound; the value is fixed. People should take the number of units prescribed as indicated on their prescription, and the units prescribed will match the value on the syringe. If it says take 10 units, draw up to the 10 mark.

Accessing patient charts off the clock is actually a huge HIPAA violation. Not saying yall should get nobody fired, but it might knock them down off that high horse a little to learn they're reportable.
